Brenfox Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 Stringer was supposed to be asking Sven the latest on the striker situation after the game yesterday. Did anyone catch what was said?
Bugg Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 Am I the only one who thinks Shane Long isn't actually very good?
themotivator Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 sven said we are not "close close", but we are working on a number of targets
Happy Fox Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 I imagine we will get a striker by Wednesday at the latest imo
LeeTheFox Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 Am I the only one who thinks Shane Long isn't actually very good? Yes i think so

Danny the Fox 95 Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 Heard from someone ITK that we'll make a bid for him this week!
Rhysm Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 Am I the only one who thinks Shane Long isn't actually very good? Wouldn't go as far as to say he is not very good but would say he is a huge risk - especially with the figures being banded about. You don't score that many goals and be rubbish but he could have just been riding high on confidence. Danger of him being a "one season wonder". I would feel more comfortable with Maynard as he looks the real deal, or even us loaning someone like ebanks blake/ Keane.

A season long loan of someone similar to Daniel Sturridge at Chelsea, would be a better bet than an £8m on a forward for this division who could well need replacing in the Prem anyway
kingfox Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11688_7073897,00.html Ummmm Sorry Staff just seen your post on the previous page my bad

lcfcnoely Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11688_7073897,00.html Ummmm West ham have got enough strikers, why would they want long after cole seems to be staying put? ( even though cole is shit)
dpjfox Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 Young/Stringer seemed to mention Shane Long at lot during yesterdays commentary.

ThurnbyLodgeFox Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 dunno if its been posted, but it was in the Mercury that we are gonna bid for him
themotivator Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 8million is so much money for a striker who has essentially had one great season. i have to say he looked a bit special towards the end of last year and was banging them in. but reading have proved that just by having a striker who scores a lot of goals that doesn't guarantee promotion. think he will be a very good player if he continues las seasons form and wouldn't object to us signing him at all. Sven has made it quite clear though that he doesn't want to pay over the odds for players. he seems to be growing frustrated with this "striking saga" maybe Nugent will be enough, after all we need to win games and we certainly have the squad for that. The golden boot is not really a trophy we should get too worked up about.
Guest Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 If last season was the breakout season and he goes on to bag 30 this season 8m will be a mere snip.
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 If last season was the breakout season and he goes on to bag 30 this season 8m will be a mere snip. £8m is still a hell of a gamble to find out though. The thing I would ask is he better than what we currently have? IMO yes by a long way so going on that we may have to pay that kind of money if we want to get him or any other forward. Other clubs know we are spending big so we will have to pay inflated prices for who ever we go for. Long, Maynard etc. it doesn't matter, unless we hold on until the end of the transfer window where we may get a bit more value for money.
Raw Dykes Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 Long > Maynard. Debatable. Is he worth the supposed £3m or £4m more, though?
THEBIGJOHNSTEADER; Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 Bring DJ back for 1.25 million. 13 goals in the prem for a relegated team last season isn't a bad return for an Englishman. He was a lovely lad and popular here. I'm sure everyone would be buzzing
