  1. 1. Should City bid for Shane Long?

    • Yes but no more than £6m
    • Yes but no more than £4m
    • Yes cash and player exchange
    • Only if we fail to land Nicky Maynard
    • Only if another Championship side makes a bid
    • No not a chance

I'll argue it was me who posted first on page 25! Please prove me wrong.

Don't be so pernickety what I meant was that Danny was the first to confirm about the bid either today or tomorrow being made

Or guessed... think we should wait before he gets turned into the next Bert like deity.

Wasn't trying to be a show off just trying to say I do have inside info and some people do appreciate it (Happy Fox), but others don't appreciate it and give stick even though people like Bert and Liam are givinginside info and some people don't appreciate it, this is probably why Bert left!

Yes I know I was joking, I'm glad he posted and even happier it came true. But if im honest I think the hard work for city starts now in convincing him to join.

What a signing this would be, a massive statement of intent.

As Joe says though, we're some way off seeing him holding up a City shirt with a cheesy grin. I'd be surprised, but delighted, to see him in the team for Saturday.

Comes with the territory.

Has Bert left, what have I missed?

Does Liam really have inside info?

Bert has left because he was being abused by John Doe apparently and I don't know about Liam, but I believe he does have inside info.

I'd love to see Shane Long at Leicester, I think he would work well with the squad that we have. Plus, he has links with SSL and Mills, so he'd fit in nicely.

Don't you mean a paltry 1.75m lol

You're correct I got confused by the combined amount we've bid for Long, Maynard, Heskey, La Fronde, Jong Tae Se, Robbie Keene, Cameron Jerome, Adebayor etc.

Last time I said this (about Nugent) the OS confirmed it less than a minute after (so here's hoping his nostrils appear on the OS sometime this week.):

I won't believe it until he's on the OS holding up an LCFC shirt with a big cheesy grin on his face.

Any1 think that this bid could

Just be put in to make brizzle panic that we have moved on from Maynard and we are pursuing other targets? I think they were resigned to losing Maynard but they wanted to hold out for 5.5-6m. It just seems like we hadn't shown alot of interest in long until now. I may be completely of the mark but what dya think?

I've always thought this.

#whufc ready to give up on shane long: too expensive. full story soon on @guardian_sport

Poor Hammers cannot compete with the Mighty LCFC

Bristol played a risky game of holding out for a certain price for Maynard, now they've lost out on any 'big money deal'. Instead, we benefit by bringing in Long and most likely Maynard next season on a free! :giggle:

Hello, Reading fan living in Leicester here and I come in peace.

So here are my thoughts on Shane Long.

Long had joined Reading as part of the Kevin Doyle deal and quickly moved from the academy side to an impact player for the first team.

is perhaps my favourite Shane Long/Reading fan moment. For the next few years was continued to be used as an impact sub and Kevin Doyle's understudy. Being given only 5-10 minutes in a match its hard to judge his goal scoring record on appearances, in fact I think Shane Long has a better minutes to goal ratio than the likes of Doyle.

In 2009 the club's form mysteriously collapsed and Long was used more regularly. A small flurry of goals from Long helped keep our promotion dream alive but ultimately we choked it. In the summer Doyle ect left, in came Brendan Rodgers and Long was (presumably) told to bulk up as he came back from summer a bit fat. He and the rest of the team were then awful until McDermott came in. Who then turned everything around with a victory at Anfield in the cup, in which Long scored the equaliser and won the winning penalty. Scored a few more goals (including a brace against Villa) but ultimately the goals came in small bursts. Jury still out on Long at this point.

Last season however, we had to drastically change the way we played when we sold Gylfi Sigurdsson. It took a while to adjust, hence being mid table for the first half of the season. Long then seemed to thrive, probably because we were getting to ball out wide more rather than relying on Sigurdsson to produce something special. I think having another striker alongside him also helped, especially Noel Hunt who would often drop back creating space for Long to work the channels.

In conclusion as a striker I would say that Long's main attributes are his speed, strength, work rate and despite being quite small he will win balls in the air. He is also a very capable finisher, however at times he does show his rawness as a player but this is something that has been reducing from his game as he's got older. Obviously with every signing theres a risk, but Long is rated very highly here, much more than Mills was. Although not quite as universally loved here as Kevin Doyle, Shane Long is probably the better goalscorer.

Long, Nugent and Gallagher sounds like a disgustingly good front line.

The only way we are going to get the likes of Mills and Long is by pricing clubs better placed than us out of the market. It's what Man City have had to do and there's no other way around it if you want to bring in the players to get you achieving quickly. BANG!
