  1. 1. Should City bid for Shane Long?

    • Yes but no more than £6m
    • Yes but no more than £4m
    • Yes cash and player exchange
    • Only if we fail to land Nicky Maynard
    • Only if another Championship side makes a bid
    • No not a chance

Im I allowed to say im incredibly bored by all of this.

Surely their are easier targets that we could go for in Premier League, Championship, League 1

Ebanks-Blake, Sharp, Le Fondre would be easier to get than Long and Maynard surely.

Who gives a **** how easy it is? You aren;t doing the leg work are you? Jesus, the whinging on here.

Thats the spirit. Lets just buy players that are easy to buy. I always forget that the very best players in this league are ten-a-penny, in fact I think they're doing an offer 20 goals a season strikers at Morrisons.

Have a word, these players are hard to buy for a reason.

Who said anything about support? I was just saying that football players cost alot nowadays and that SOME people think we can get promotion without paying the money for quality players.

I think that he was simply pointing out that we would only generate a small fraction of Liverpool's total revenue and that this should be taken into consideration when we are talking about relative spending power.

Well its boring.

Yes good players but people are also moaning that we are paying way over the odds, im just saying their is just as good targets out there that would be easier to get than pissing around for Maynard and Long who at £7 million and going to a Championship side is ridiculous even though it is Leicester.

Ino what ur sayin but that's obv as Liverpool are a massive premier club all I was trying to point out was that if we want a quality goal scorer were going to have to pay for it. No footballer should be worth 8 mil IMO but that's football.

Unfortunately with the way the club has gone around both buying (Mills) and bidding (Maynard), we are going to get ripped off with any targets we look at.

7 mil for Long!!!! it's a lot, but clubs will hold out for the max as we look like we are willing to pay big.

We may as well pay over the odds for someone that will score goals, and I think both Long and Maynard will, it's just how far Bristol and Reading think they can push us.

It's a shame, but we will undoubtedly get robbed, I just hope however we get, they are good enough to bang in 20+ in the championship and lead a strike force in the perm, should we get there.

Fingers crossed.

Norwich? Swansea? Blackpool? Stoke?

I was thinking about the Andy Carroll situation when reading this thread. I personally think he only had half a good season in the championship and got sold on for £35million. If Shane long has impressed for one season surely 7/8m is a steal!?!?

They will inevitably get relegated barring Stoke who are now an established prem team

But his point was that you can get out of THIS league without spending shitloads! To stay in the Prem is a different matter altogether

:crylaugh:

I'm sure you said the same about Stoke at the time.

The point was about promotion not staying up was it not?

Sorry , have interpreted in a wrong way, yes you are right that you don't have to spend a lot of money in the cases of those clubs mentioned to get promoted.

They obv already had a striker/ strikers e.g grant holt who can bag goals at this level.Do we?? I think not!Howard has got the worst shot ever all he can do is the odd flick on and to hold it up and I think waghorn could be good but we don't seem to play him enough! Meaning we have to go into the Market and we don't want just anyone which means we have to pay the money!

:) finally!! Someone else with a brain!

Maynard is a better player than Long, so why not just give Bristol City £5million for him rather Reading £7million for Long!!

Long is a Fryatt type player, who don't forget, we sold for £1.2million only in January whereas Maynard is stronger and faster on the ball plus is a goalscorer!

Sweet jesus.

Long and Fryatt are not similar at all.

Long is quick, and works his bollocks off.

If we're talking about ex Leicester strikers, he's He's more comparable to someone like Dickov in his prime than ****ing Fryatt.

And to say Long isn't a goalscorer... well, 25 goals in his first FULL season says otherwise.

Posted

Long may be a Fryatt type player, but there are two significant differences - Long has exceptional pace, whereas Fryatt hasn't and Long has a tremendous leap on him (a bit like Hume) and therefore is good in the air (whereas Fryatt isn't) - had Fryatt had these attributes he would have been worth keeping.
