DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 2 August 2011 Posted 2 August 2011 West Ham allegedly made a bid of £5 million + £3 million in add-ons. Guardian last week. According to Sky Sport today, Shane Long seems quite keen to join WHU.
cc_star Posted 2 August 2011 Posted 2 August 2011 Erm seems like more than one person seems to think that he only wants to go to the PL or West Ham. If he signs for us then i'll happily retract my comments about him being arrogant. Maybe they're wrong who knows but bottom line is he has had one good season. Getting relegated is pretty much the start of a downward spiral, maybe they'll turn it around but being relegated means you are GOING DOWN so it's an obvious slide from being an established premier league team. General consensus is that we're in the best position we have been in for many years financially and team wise so yes we are going the opposite way. Maybe not right now but we're in the right direction. And overspending because SHANE LONG had one good season not us. Why does not signing us for us make him arrogant. Surely it makes you arrogant to assume such a thing. Getting relegated = downward spiral? Wonder if Mickey Adams thought that when he lead us to 2nd, Our best 2nd flight finish for eons, despite being in administration and unable to sign players, unlike West Ham who have added to the PL squad with Nolan & Taylor, 2 damn good PL players in their own right. there;s always one relegated side that practically runs away with it, Newcastle, West Brom are a couple of the most recent and whilst West Ham could flop, I and many others doubt it as does players of the class of Nolan Sorry but both your comments on this matter are just blind fanboy crap

Regardless of what they do next season LAST SEASON WHICH IS THE MOST RECENT SEASON they got relegated so are down from where they were last year. It's very likely it's the start of a spiral. Us, Man City, Leeds, Forest got relegated and started a downward spiral and only Man City are back where they belong. Is it guaranteed? Hell no it's not but it's not even close to being unreasonable to suggest that they're on their way down when we're on our way up. I didn't say he was arrogant for not signing for us, I said arrogant for only wanting to play for either West Ham or a PL club IF that was the case. How is that not arrogance? He's had one good season and that is all he's not barely proved himself at all. And sorry Shane, I didn't mean to offend you !!!

Championship rivals West Ham had a bid totalling £7m for the Republic of Ireland forward rejected, but it seems Eriksson has persuaded the club’s wealthy Thai owners to stump up the cash for Long. It will take Eriksson’s spending on new players to more than £15m and the spree is not yet over as the East Midlands club bid to return to the Premier League. £7m bid: Long (left) has been targeted by Leicester Eriksson is also interested in signing Rotherham forward Adam Le Fondre. Newcastle and West Bromwich are also interested in Long, who scored 44 goals in 94 Championship starts for Reading, 24 of them last season.

m00nie Posted 2 August 2011 Posted 2 August 2011 so we are preparing a bid for one of the players from a list of players we already know the club want to sign... thanks daily mail. where would we be without you? to be fair we may know hes on the list but we dont know how many other people are on the list, how many are actual targets, 1st choice second choice etc. how much we want to pay. so if this article is real then we know its 7m and he must be a priority on the list
Happy Fox Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 JonnyFordham Jonny Fordham Sven's #lcfc #foxes to bid £7m for Long. May prompt #wba to show their hand in race for #readingfc striker. Possible #nufc come in too

Possible #nufc come in too Surely this is designed to get Bristol squirming? Just feel these rumours are us jumping on a band wagon, there didn't seem to be interest in him as this started? Concerned we are now looking at a third/fourth choice target with not much fit to our overall plans.
adhart Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 @StringerSport: Looking into this possible £7m #lcfc bid for Reading striker Shane Long (credit Daily Mail) could be a goer, wow.
Happy Fox Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 @BlueFoxNews not the only place I've heard it but I take your point. Journos only print the researched truth though don't they?

Only problem with that is that this is a higher price for another player with only 12 months left on his contract. Brizzle may get greedy

Brizzle may get greedy The thing with Bristol is they are adament in not selling to another championship club , Reading on the hand will, as we have seen with the Mills transfer
FrankieADZ Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 Cant see this one coming off...and looking at the rumoured price tag too......seems a bit to expensive for me. tho if they was willing to sell him for £2million that would pleasure the board
Ric Flair Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 I'd take him at £7 million, he'd fit in to our system better than Maynard in my opinion.
Happy Fox Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 To get quality players you need to spend the money he maybe overpriced but if the owners are happy to sanction that amount and :sge: wants him then so be it
Happy Fox Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 http://www.getreading.co.uk/sport/football/readingfc/s/2097403_long_will_get_a_heros_welcome_for_reading_fc_against_millwall Brian McDermott believes Shane Long will get a hero’s reception against Millwall on Saturday – despite his on-going transfer saga. Leicester City are reportedly ready to offer £6million plus add-ons for Reading’s star striker, while West Brom and West Ham are also interested in the player. But Royals’ boss is confident Long will be spearheading the club’s attack in their Championship opener at Madejski Stadium. McDermott said: “Shane is completely faultless as far as Reading are concerned. “His character and mental strength are as good as anyone’s. Shane is a hero here, up there with Kevin Doyle. "The fans appreciate that he has given everything and talked about how much Reading means to him and what he thinks of the fans.” Follow Royals reporter Jonny Fordham on Twitter here for all the news as it breaks Big-spending Leicester boss Sven-Goran Eriksson has spoken of his interest in the 24-year-old. Eriksson said: “To be honest, he is one on the list, but he may end up in the Premier League this season, so it will be difficult.” McDermott responded: “They’re interested in every player, so there’s no news there. “Someone will come for Shane from the Premier League at some point. If I were a Premier League manager I would sign him. "There’s a lot of good stuff in the Irish blood and he certainly has a lot of it.”
Kent Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 McDermott responded: “They’re interested in every player, so there’s no news there. 'Bout right.

Long only became good when McDermott took over and started playing hoof ball, most of his goals came from chasing down the long ball. If anything Sven doesn't play the long ball enough at times. So I cant see how he would fit in at all.

They tore us to pieces on the counter at their gaff and Long was exceptional at it.
