The Doctor Posted 14 September 2011 Posted 14 September 2011 Another epic display against Georgia today. You must be so proud of their performance. Well they didn't end up pulling our pants down, so yeah. Two wins & top of the pool at the halfway stage.
accessory Posted 14 September 2011 Posted 14 September 2011 I'm sure you'll be exposed by both England and the Argies.
Bugg Posted 14 September 2011 Posted 14 September 2011 Georgia and Romania don't even know what Rugby is, you should be ashamed.
The Doctor Posted 14 September 2011 Posted 14 September 2011 Georgia and Romania don't even know what Rugby is, you should be ashamed. Are you kidding, Romanians are very big hairy blokes, therefore must be brilliant at rugby. edit: Note, joke
Guest MattP Posted 14 September 2011 Posted 14 September 2011 I love the WC but the start of it really irks me, some of the sides just have no business being here.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 14 September 2011 Posted 14 September 2011 Good to see Canada get the win today but pissed off as i bet on Tonga. Also Scotland really are that bad. Maybe Georgia or Romania could replace them in the 6 nations.

Don't know if you saw my facebook status this morning before the game but I said had I got any money in betfair I would of backed Canada at 4/1
Finnegan Posted 15 September 2011 Author Posted 15 September 2011 I love the WC but the start of it really irks me, some of the sides just have no business being here. Daft thing to say and fortunately not a view shared by many rugby fans, most of whom wanted to see this world cup hosted by minnows Japan. Football is a sport that can take liberties with who gets to compete, where fans can claim there should be pre-qualifying for the likes of Andorra and Lichtenstein because it's such a chore watching their "big" teams play these sides. Rugby isn't. Rugby needs all the exposure and all the support it can get world wide. It's a growing sport and having sides like Russia, Georgia, Namibia and Romania in the mix can only help breed enthusiasm and interest in the game across the globe. A sport traditionally dominated by the Commonwealth that desperately needs to break out - and you're bemoaning a few fixtures against some lower ranked sides? A lot of whom have traditionally added some fantastic world cup moments, by the way.

(I believe Japan are hosting the next world cup though?) Does nothing for the casual fan though I would imagine, I was up and put Namibia V Samoa on the other night, turned over after 10 mins as it was just farcical, no enjoyment whatsoever watching one team who literally has zero chance of winning the game. Michael - I can't agree with any comparison to cricket. You at least need to be at a certain standard to play, in recent world cups Kenya have beaten Sri Lanka, Ireland beat England and Zimbabwe and Bangladesh have beaten India, Australia and Pakistan. Has a real minnow ever triumphed over a nation like New Zealand?
Guest MattP Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 Not trying to belittle anyone but just watched the highlights of the game this morning... Was 3-13 and Russia had a pen 20m out straight infront, the guy missed it wide, then they got the ball back....another penalty near the sideline, tried to kick it out, mis-kicked it and kicked it long through the end zone. I just don't see what good this is doing? Rugby is a bad to watch as any other sport (I say that as a fan) when you have a poor game, this spectacle just made the sport look like a joke to anyone watching.
Narborough_fox Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 Another epic display against Georgia today. You must be so proud of their performance. Like you are of yours against Argentina? 9 points from 10 and 2 wins out of 2. It's a World Cup all that matters are wins and that's what we're doing.

Narborough_fox Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 Argentina are a lot better than Romania and Georgia put together. And England are twice as good as Argentina. If it wasn't for the Argies incompetent kicking you'd of lost that game.

It was on at silly AM in a mid-week. I'm sure any casual fan isn't going to look at a fixture list of games and go "oh, I'm going to get up at X in the morning to watch Russia play the USA at rugby union." But Russia's qualification for the tournament will do wonders for the sport in Russia, developing interest, bringing in money and resources and giving the whole sport exposure in a country with a hell of a lot of potential to be very good at it.
leicesterisme Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 And England are twice as good as Argentina. If it wasn't for the Argies incompetent kicking you'd of lost that game. Could say the exact same about Jonny Wilkinsons kicking...
Finnegan Posted 15 September 2011 Author Posted 15 September 2011 Could say the exact same about Jonny Wilkinsons kicking... I could be wrong - but I'm pretty sure if you totalled up points missed then the Argies would have won. Particularly if you totalled up points missed from easily kickable positions. With the greatest of fairness, Wilko tried some pretty tricky kicks while Contepomi and co were just devastatingly awful.

Has a real minnow ever triumphed over a nation like New Zealand? That wasn't always the case tho was it? It gives these guys experience so they can improve. The only really uncompetitve teams are USA, Russia and Nambia. From what i've seen and in lead up matches the USA have improved from 4 years ago. If you rule out those 3 teams it would make the competition uneven with 17 teams. Also Ireland beating Zimbabwe is hardly a minnow v a top team 10th v 11th in the world
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 Also if you want to know about upsets in WC ask Finnegan about how the Welsh did against Samoa. I was also at a match in '03 when Samoa almost beat England. There was also a game in Leicester once when Tonga beat one of the 6 nations sides. Also just for Finners....i love you really mate
