Finnegan Posted 10 September 2011 Author Posted 10 September 2011 Not seen this before... BRILLIANT!!! The haka is one of the most impressive and intimidating parts of world sport, the Welsh were superb and great entertainment. I was so proud when I saw it at the time. The way the crowd reacted, the way the players reacted and the fact that they backed off. We started the game incredibly positively, as well. But in the second half, well... they're the All Blacks and we're Wales.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 10 September 2011 Posted 10 September 2011 Sorry, remind me, what happened in that match? Winding up the Kiwis / All Blacks in any sport never really seems to go well. People have turned their back to the Haka, held training sessions whilst they were doing it, walked up and eyeballed them, you name it. Nearly always gotten smashed. But, you know, any excuse to dig this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncu6SzmHe3E (And yes, we lost. But given the quality of their squad and ours and the fact we really rattled them in the first half I think that can go down as a reasonable idea by Warren Gatland ) We both know what happened in that game Neverseen that Wales one before and it is awesome, the wallabies actually mimiced the haka one day just virtually took the piss out of the haka and one but couldnt find the video
FoxyPV Posted 11 September 2011 Posted 11 September 2011 An average performance by the Irish. Too many handling errors AGAIN. Conceded a try in the last minute after going for the bonus point. Ah, well, a win's a win.
Sparky Posted 11 September 2011 Posted 11 September 2011 SA try within 3 minutes, hope Wales can keep in touch as i wanna see a decent game !
Finnegan Posted 11 September 2011 Author Posted 11 September 2011 SA try within 3 minutes, hope Wales can keep in touch as i wanna see a decent game ! Not a great start but solid since. Worried about our ability to get tries on the board vs top teams, though.
Sparky Posted 11 September 2011 Posted 11 September 2011 What a performance by Wales this is. Best game of the World Cup. Hope they hang on as it will be fully deserved
Bugg Posted 11 September 2011 Posted 11 September 2011 South Africa (yes I'm well aware England are just as boring)
Finnegan Posted 11 September 2011 Author Posted 11 September 2011 Obviously proud but absolutely, massively heart-broken. It doesn't matter how good the performance is, if you want to be taken seriously there has to be a point where you stop being plucky, "nearly" men and start beating the top teams. That's the big difference between England / France and Wales / Ireland on the biggest stages. One win against South Africa in our history just isn't good enough, simple as. Positive signs, though, if you stop and look at the average age and inexperience of our side. If we can keep them fit, together and healthy for the next four years we could really be a challenge next time out.
Sparky Posted 11 September 2011 Posted 11 September 2011 Harsh on the Welsh, Faletau and Warburton were outstanding and Wales were the better side for much of the game. Hey Finners, all the shit you've given me about Flutey and Tuilagi over the last few years and you have been keeping this Faletau a bit quiet !!!! Also i'd like to see Hook's missed pen again as i thought it was over
Sparky Posted 11 September 2011 Posted 11 September 2011 Just seen it again, looks over to me. Certainly should have been checked
Finnegan Posted 11 September 2011 Author Posted 11 September 2011 Faletau's a pretty late break through to the Welsh side and, to be honest, up until today I've never really thought he was international quality. A lot of nervy play, silly penalties and endless handling errors (makes Leon Lloyd look dependable!) But he had a stormer today to be fair. He's lived in Wales most his life, mind, as I understand it, mostly raised here. Flutey in contrast previously represented the Maoris and spent most of his life and career in New Zealand! And Manu comes from a long line of Samoan internationals and was recently nearly deported!! No comparison!! I think we had chances to get more points on the board. Priestland should have won it with his drop goal and we should have finished from the joint Faletau / Roberts break whilst they were on the ropes; however I think Hook's penalty may have been wide. My first impression was that it was easily over but the second replay, from sort of underneath it, looked like it pulled back in after going wide. It's just deceptive because he's kicked it over the top of the posts.

Didn't realise the bonus point system was operation so todays point could be important for Wales. By the way i forgot to add a mention for Roberts and J Davies earlier , those two were superb
leicesterisme Posted 11 September 2011 Posted 11 September 2011 Faletau's dad was a Tongan international !! Forgive me if I'm wrong but think he was on about Manu Tuilagi.
Sparky Posted 11 September 2011 Posted 11 September 2011 Forgive me if I'm wrong but think he was on about Manu Tuilagi. Yeah you miss the point a tad, he hits me with reasons over why Manu/Flutey shouldn't play for England but i got a bit of ammo now there top man is a Pacific Islander, all good banter
accessory Posted 11 September 2011 Posted 11 September 2011 That decision on the "missed" Hook penalty was a shocker. With the technology available, there was no excuse for the officials to mess up. With Fiji and Samoa also in the group, Wales now face a real scrap for second spot.
Finnegan Posted 11 September 2011 Author Posted 11 September 2011 The problem in '07 against Fiji was that, in the regime prior to Gatland, our defence was a shambles and we relied heavily on our flair and expansive game. The Fijians were equally as good on the day and the "open" game fell very much in to their hands. Whilst many Welsh supporters resent the more conservative attitude enforced by Gatland and Edwards, if we perform against Fiji and Samoa like we did today - we'll absolutely bulldoze both of them, comfortably. They'll just hit out defence and come up much like England did in the Millennium Stadium. Of course, the concern is that we won't perform like we did today, that we'll become complacent. But there you go, that's what makes it interesting.
The Doctor Posted 12 September 2011 Posted 12 September 2011 ooh, I am really tempted to WUM the fact that Scotland are ahead of England in the table. On a side note, it's pretty clear the tigers are suffering from this tournament and having pretty much their entire starting XV missing.

If you watched the game against Romania i would keep the fact you support Scotland on the low down. Romania were in front with 5 minues to go.

You must be so proud of their performance.
