Tielemans63 Posted 3 October 2011 Posted 3 October 2011 You want to watch the Super League or the NRL - Rugby League is awesome. It's all the good bits of Union without the boring bits. It's like British Bulldog on crack
FoxyPV Posted 3 October 2011 Posted 3 October 2011 If you take a player out of both teams it creates extra space that open the game up and make it flow more freely. The influence of 7s is more pronounced in Super14s as players don't look to take the ball to ground but instead ALWAYS look for the offload which makes the game flow better. MJ thinks brawn will always win out.

It's like British Bulldog on crack  Agreed. Clearly none of you watch the super 14's.............as it's been Super 15's for at least 18 months because of the mighty Melbourne Rebels (well maybe not mighty as we finished last in our first year)
Guest MattP Posted 3 October 2011 Posted 3 October 2011 You want to watch the Super League or the NRL - Rugby League is awesome. It's all the good bits of Union without the boring bits. It's like British Bulldog on crack  Yeah agree with that. The fitness of League players is just astounding, all dead off their feet in the last 15 and its totally non stop. We need to implement some similar things as Union just spends far too much time with the ball out of play.
Finnegan Posted 4 October 2011 Author Posted 4 October 2011 I watch a bit of the mangers league and I;'d certainly agree its far more entertaining than the English one where I struggle to stay awake for a whole game. Still don't think its anywhere near the excitement and quality of the Super 14 though, it's on a different planet to anything up here. As I said, the North obviously doesn't have the same calibre of player as the South (Super Rugby is now Super 15, btw, and Magners no longer sponsor the CL) but the intent is definitely there. That's why I fancy England though, if it does come down to a WC semi final between England/Wales/Ireland it will probably end up being a nervy, cagey affair that going to be dominated by forwards rather than free flowing backs, hence why I see England as having a big advantage should it get there. I think you're missing my point, though. The issue here is that England aren't really playing with good quality in their pack, they aren't grinding out strong, solid wins and they aren't showing mental strength. Their discipline has been shocking both on and off the field and whilst the latter will draw all the headlines, it's the former that's seriously a problem. Throw Wilkinson's kicking in to the mix and, Jesus, you're seriously in trouble. I have far more confidence in Ireland and Wales' mental states than England's and so do most top level, Northern-hemisphere pundits at the moment. This isn't me just having a crack at England, it's me just being honest. I have my natural bias, sure, but evidently so do you. The frustrating fact is that you do actually have the personnel to reach the final with the route that you've got but it's going to take a gargantuan shift in form, mentality and focus for you to get there. The French losing to Tonga is a huge, huge blow to you because you've got to assume they're going to want to come back with avengance, regardless of any issues the squad are having with their coaching staff. On a side note Sonny Bill Williams is one of my fave sportsman on the planet, I hope he carries on with his boxing as he could give it a good 4 year crack after he has finished rugby, got some talent in the ring as well as on a rugby field. SBW = God. Easily favourite non-Welsh player. Yeah agree with that. The fitness of League players is just astounding, all dead off their feet in the last 15 and its totally non stop. We need to implement some similar things as Union just spends far too much time with the ball out of play. Jesus no. If you want to watch League, watch League. I agree the scrum needs to be looked at, it's gotten ridiculous in the last few years, but I don't believe it's beyond fixing. That aside, leave Union alone - no dumbing down!
Bert Posted 4 October 2011 Posted 4 October 2011 Nice try Finners. We'll beat you once we've dome the frogs.
Finnegan Posted 4 October 2011 Author Posted 4 October 2011 Alright kiddo. But when you're crying into your Hovis 50/50, don't expect me to hold back on the rippin' cos I warned you!
Super_horns Posted 4 October 2011 Posted 4 October 2011 Winning ugly. Still winning. Makes a change to losing ugly I guess like another national team. Another England player in trouble it seems...over wearing the "wrong" gum shield which seems a bit harsh.
The Doctor Posted 4 October 2011 Posted 4 October 2011 If France play to even half of their best then they will tear England apart - We're utterly shit and yet if De Luca was actually capable of picking a ball up we'd've (Is that acceptable grammar?) beaten you, so I'd be fearing humiliation v the frogs.
FoxyPV Posted 4 October 2011 Posted 4 October 2011 SBW = God. BOD - Easily favourite non-Welsh player. Better

But you didn't. Please, Get over it. Anyway, what are you on about when you say 'we're'? You're English? De Luca doesn't play for England.
The Doctor Posted 4 October 2011 Posted 4 October 2011 But you didn't. Please, Get over it. I don't see that the post you quoted suggested I wasn't over it - all I said was, really, we should have beaten you and France are far better than us, therefore France will beat you.

I'm still totally behind us when it comes to the knockout stages, maybe I have got this one totally wrong but I just expect how ever we play to come out on top on the scoreboard in these crucial stages of world cups, like you say, you can give me hell if the French or yourselves knock us out. I don;t see the French losing to Tonga as a huge blow, I see it as the sign of a team in a total mess, not to mention that choice of a scrum at the end proving even more importantly a mental mess.

Doesnt work that that though does it? You didnt beat us, you were never going to, its bred into your minds now, that gallant defeat. It's more Scottish than steak balmoral. 20 mins to go our players knew it was happening, so did yours I bet deep deep down. You can't override that in the brain.
One Arm Babba Posted 4 October 2011 Posted 4 October 2011 France beat England this weekend, I saw it in my chicken soup today.
SystonFox Posted 4 October 2011 Posted 4 October 2011 i only work for a small firm so we've done a QF sweepstake and ive inherited home nation and supposed "favourites" New Zealand. thoughts people? am i nailed on FTW?!

Very strong chance, you are on an odds-on shot at 7/1. Pretty pretty pre-tty good place to be.
Finnegan Posted 4 October 2011 Author Posted 4 October 2011 Better SBW with O'Driscoll outside of him? God that would be amazing. O'Driscoll circa, like, 2002 that is. Seriously though, Sonny Bill is a machine - he basically reinvented the offload and established it as an art-form. Love'im.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 5 October 2011 Posted 5 October 2011 SBW's league background is really shown thru with some great runs so far in the tournament.
Guest MattP Posted 5 October 2011 Posted 5 October 2011 Staggering this. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/rugby_union/15179131.stm How can you come and say this before a big game?, I think the French are mentally beaten already.
Finnegan Posted 5 October 2011 Author Posted 5 October 2011 That's clever. Playing themselves down as underdogs.
Guest MattP Posted 5 October 2011 Posted 5 October 2011 That's clever. Playing themselves down as underdogs. Mentality of a small team that IMO.
Finnegan Posted 5 October 2011 Author Posted 5 October 2011 France have a far, FAR bigger problem with being under-focussed than over-confident. Their normal shtick is to write England off and then have a shocker. That's an interesting change of approach from Les Bleu.
Salieri Posted 7 October 2011 Posted 7 October 2011 Time to jump on the bandwagon I guess......what time's kick off tomorrow morn?
