Sod what other teams are doing, we just have toake sure we perform our selves
svens uncle Posted 8 August 2011 Author Posted 8 August 2011 ipswich will also be there as Paul Jewell is no mug
z-layrex Posted 8 August 2011 Posted 8 August 2011 I said it months ago, they will be at the least 4th or 3rd.
rico Posted 8 August 2011 Posted 8 August 2011 ipswich will also be there as Paul Jewell is no mug are you sure?
The Padster Posted 8 August 2011 Posted 8 August 2011 Set Vassell loose on them, gerrin' to 'em and all that.
cc_star Posted 8 August 2011 Posted 8 August 2011 we just need to win our games But yes, teams like S'ton along with Ipswich, maybe Millwall will be in the mix along with the bigger names we'd expect like WHU, Blackpool and many others It's the hardest I can remember this division
ajthefox Posted 8 August 2011 Posted 8 August 2011 I'm sure when the time comes Sven will make the players wary of the threats they have but that aside, I don't really see what there is to be wary off. There are plenty of teams who are going to be challenging for promotion and maybe Southampton are one of those teams, but so what? We need to be concentrating on ourselves and our next match and thats as far as it goes. Worrying about other teams and thinking about them only serves to waste time.

Sven has already identified them as a threat but they have been a league below. If we're lucky a few of their players may struggle.
Soar Fox Posted 8 August 2011 Posted 8 August 2011 No. All we need to worry about is ourselves. Looking at Southampton's team it looks decent enough but a 46 game season how will they cope with injuries, suspensions etc. Where as you look at our squad and every position barring strikers we have got players who can come In and do a quality job. Also Saturdays win it might sound stupid but to me that result was better than winning 2 or 3 nil. Last season that was the kind of game we wouldn't have won or conceded a late goal. It shows that the team have got a bit of steel amd something about them specially the defence after all this was the first competitive game they've all played together.
The Doctor Posted 8 August 2011 Posted 8 August 2011 In a way yes, we need to be wary of every team in this division, we can't expect to stroll the league, beating everyone in our path. However if you're asking whether we need to watch Southampton as fellow promotion candidates I'd say no. Firstly because we only need to worry about ourselves, we need to be wary of the team we are playing and not get complacent when playing "lesser" teams but we just have to focus on ourselves, if we win our games then it doesn't matter what others do. Also I wouldn't have too much faith in a front-line led by David Connolly to trouble the promotion spots.

Donut Posted 8 August 2011 Posted 8 August 2011 Southampton will have a decent season but not promotion contenders. Squad depth is an issue, plus their frontline, Connolly (average striker) Lambert (completely untried at championship level) MAY produce goals, but may not. Are they in a position to hang onto Lallana if someone comes sniffing in January? Newly promoted teams will always start the season well, momentum, optimism........Blackpool and Hull in the prem were terrific 1st half of season but gradually it becomes a grind. I think so called 'dark horses' for the playoffs might be more along the lines of a Middlesboro or certainly Ipswich
VampLCFC Posted 8 August 2011 Posted 8 August 2011 how much did oxo go for? £7m up front, rising to £12m with add-ons and clauses
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 8 August 2011 Posted 8 August 2011 the only team we need to fear is ourselves if we dont perform we wont be good enough
Dan Posted 8 August 2011 Posted 8 August 2011 One game, in which they've beat a drastically over-rated side. I'm not worried about anyone other than West Ham until ten/fifteen games in.
LCFC_FAN_1995 Posted 9 August 2011 Posted 9 August 2011 mid table team, Ipswich, Blackpool and Hull will be teams to look out for
CKB Posted 9 August 2011 Posted 9 August 2011 We soley need to concentrate on ourselfs but there are a number of teams which will all have big ambitions and we just have to match them on the pitch It's simple, this isn't an easy league never has been never will be! at least 12 teams will have big ambitions and at least 4 will be surprise packages with one of them possibly getting a play-off place.. Expect highs and lows, hopefully of course more highs but we ain't going to walk it, we still have room for improvement (striker) that elusive striker could be the big difference in my eyes..
Ilkeston_Fox Posted 9 August 2011 Posted 9 August 2011 They demolished Leeds. Certainly a team that can turn up the heat when they want to. Question is can they do it consistantly? That said, the same can be said for about 10-12 teams in this division, it's what makes it so enjoyable.
Mickey O'Neil Posted 9 August 2011 Posted 9 August 2011 ipswich will also be there as Paul Jewell is no mug They're my dark horse for promotion. Assembled a team nicely, got a solid goalscorer in quickly who does a lot of damage in this division. Decent manager. They'll do well. The only thing I'm not sure of is their 'keeper situation with Fulop going/gone (??) WBA. I'll be mad if that ****s up my bet.
MikeyT Posted 9 August 2011 Posted 9 August 2011 To be honest, i think we should be wary of every team in the league, you can't and shouldn't take anything for granted in football. Anything can happen.
