Uncle Albert Posted 14 November 2008 Posted 14 November 2008 You usually talk sense, but that is absolute bullshine, kiddo.I'll have a bit of respect restored if you come back and admit that! No its not bullshine because even most Arsenal fans I know have come out and said that, that's the first game Nasri has performed in and its the first time they have seen him play well. The thing is Arsenal may have beat Yanited this weekend but they will probably fail this weekend against Villa, so if they fail to beat Villa then this win against Yanited will mean nothing. Just the same with Liverpool after they beat Yanited they failed to beat Stoke so the win against Yanited didnt mean as much.
Alexikokopops Posted 14 November 2008 Posted 14 November 2008 He has brought us a vision, Phube. Along with Sir Alex Ferguson he has brought English football a vision of how the game should truly be played. Arsene Wenger's teams play without fear. They play without betraying their attacking ideals. They continue to play football, even when all those watching can see a more pragmatic approach might produce a better result. Wenger has prevailed, despite the attempts of other managers to grind the joy and excitement out of our game; the dour pragmatists he has outlasted like Mourinho and (when the sack comes) Benitez, management-by-numbers gaffers like Allardyce and McClaren. Even Kevin Keegan, who had the vision too, just not the intelligence, and tended to manage a football club like a chimpanzee drives a speedboat. He doesn't just buy players, Phube. Anyone can buy players and pick a team and hire a dietitian and wear a headset and a raincoat and shout and point and swear a lot. Wenger takes players and he improves them; he turns them into players no-one would have imagined they would become when he first acquired them. Thierry Henry, Mattieu Flamini, Alexander Hleb to name but three. He actually makes a profit on players. No other manager does this. And no other manager, Sir Alex and Dario Gradi aside, has commanded such utter respect and loyalty from fans and board alike. What other manager of a G14 side could go three seasons without a trophy and still expect to have "a job for life" [David Dein]. He encourages the creative freedom that has been so utterly lacking in our national team over the past god-knows-how-many years. The poise, movement and vision of Wilshire, Vela and Ramsey was a joy to watch at times on Tuesday. God knows what sot of a player Joe Cole might have become had he been in a Wenger side, as opposed to being the victim of Chelsea's utilitarian, rotational, win at all costs regime. It's the Chelseas and Liverpools of this world that are far more deserving of your ire, Phube - not an Arsenal side that plays in the unrelenting pursuit of the beautiful game. He is showing English football clubs the way forward. Dare we follow his lead? Oh 'Shunwidoh, you never disappoint. That's glorious. My guess is that Phube's response will be something along the lines of "Joe Cole's English, Arsene Wenger would never play him!!!!!!111111111111"

Still doesn't change my mind on him one jot!

James. Posted 14 November 2008 Posted 14 November 2008 Again name all the great thing Wenger has done for England in the last ten years??? Because I'm stumped?!?! Still doesn't change my mind on him one jot! But you now recognise what he has done for England in the last ten years right? That is what Nationwider was responding to after all...
potter3 Posted 14 November 2008 Posted 14 November 2008 Phube is like a stubborn mule. Except that he's a cloven footed beast so I'm not sure where that leaves him
Phube Posted 14 November 2008 Author Posted 14 November 2008 But you now recognise what he has done for England in the last ten years right? That is what Nationwider was responding to after all... No, they're just his opinions... But I've not seen much evidence of Wenger's footballing utopia in England in the last 10 years... Oh I remember now... he brought us the old classic line: "I didn't see it!" When one of your players has fouled/done something wrong, even in front of the dug out... and surprisingly having 20:20 vision when one of your players is fouled over in the far corner in a tussle!!

The most amusing Wenger incident was when he slagged us off for playing "boring" football under O'Neill (in a season where we scored 73 goals in all competitions. Yeah, really boring ), and we played them in the Fa Cup, where they couldn't score in 210 minutes against basically our reserves, and we beat them on penalties Class!
Phube Posted 15 November 2008 Author Posted 15 November 2008 lol Arsénal showing the Premier League how the beautiful game should be played!!! MON>>Wenger = FACT!
Matt Posted 15 November 2008 Posted 15 November 2008 At least Arsenal made up for Leicester pissing me off!
Corky Posted 15 November 2008 Posted 15 November 2008 Villa are pretty good away from home. Should have won at the Emirates last year too. Back to "Wenger out" this week.
Matt Posted 15 November 2008 Posted 15 November 2008 Villa are pretty good away from home. Should have won at the Emirates last year too.Back to "Wenger out" this week. What's his excuse's this week? A Villa player went into a tackle 'too hard' and broke one of Fabregas' nails?
Corky Posted 15 November 2008 Posted 15 November 2008 What's his excuse's this week? A Villa player went into a tackle 'too hard' and broke one of Fabregas' nails? "Villa had the temirity to attack us at the Emirates. It's disgraceful"
Uncle Albert Posted 15 November 2008 Posted 15 November 2008 The thing is Arsenal may have beat Yanited last weekend but they will probably fail this weekend against Villa. I ****ing called it. Where was Nasri today? What excuses are you going to use this week for Arsenal's poor performance? Viva Ronaldo!
Nationwider Posted 15 November 2008 Posted 15 November 2008 Really?? Even now!? But well done on a lovely piece of writing... I salute you!!! Still doesn't change my mind on him one jot! I never expected it to. As football fans, blind, irrational loathing is standard accepted practice. For Phube/Arsenal, read Nationwider/Man Utd. Out of interest, is it Arsenal, or more specifically Wenger? No, they're just his opinions...But I've not seen much evidence of Wenger's footballing utopia in England in the last 10 years... MON>>Wenger = FACT! On the subject of moaning managers: Graeme Souness, Joe Kinnear, Harry Redknapp, Colin Warnock, Gordon Strachan, Steve Bruce, Peter Reid, Kevin Keegan, Bryan Robson, Roy Keane, Gary Megson? I don't think Wenger's any worse than that lot. I think the media make a meal of it because of his success, and the fact that he's not British.

You're quite right, I never had a problem with Arsénal before Wenger... maybe when he leaves I'll change my mind! But it's not just his moaning or his foreignness (I liked José). It's the whole ensemble! I mean I hate Warnock too, but for him... not what he did to his teams... So it's more (negatives): Wenger + Club + fans + board + media + Anti-homegrown player policy = Phube hating Arsénal. Whereas you take a few of them away and I don't much care. I.e. Man U; Fans + media = okay with Phube Chelsea; Fans + club = okay with Phube
Phube Posted 22 November 2008 Author Posted 22 November 2008 You just knew I had to!!! Isn't it time the "Saviour of British Football"TM started using his youth team... they can't be worse than his shower of a senior team!!?
lildave3 Posted 22 November 2008 Posted 22 November 2008 OLÉ! Completed my day very nicely when I heard this result. Perfect.
Daggers Posted 22 November 2008 Posted 22 November 2008 Is it just me or does anyone else feel a plastic bag full of sick could manage Arsenal and achieve their usual levels of success each year?
Corky Posted 23 November 2008 Posted 23 November 2008 Is Wenger really unsackable? It looks that way. Arsenal do have massive expectations (which he has raised through his own success and style), but he has struggled this season. Poor performances, dressing-room unrest, and people are now questioning him. His team haven't got the fight to scrap their way back into form, they know no other way than to play football. When that doesn't work, they look vulnerable.
