What has changed in Leicester over the last two years?

Recommended Posts

On September 13th I will be flying into Heathrow for my dad's 60th birthday and will be back home for the first time in two years and i was wondering... There MUST be something thats different... SOMETHING must of changed in these last two years...

Any new stores? New buildings that have gone up?

Does that man with the big rucksack still walk round backwards looking up at the sky?

I'd be very interested to know of any changes, not just about Leicester, but about England in General that anyone has noticed over the last couple of years... good or bad!

The only things i have managed to observe from a distance are:

Its now apparently cool to go on a rampage and crisps are the new tv's

England have some how become good at Cricket!!

That bloke with the rucksack i haven't seen for a while. Used to see him all the time. Maybe he's found somewhere new.

The obvious buildings would be the extension to the Shires (Highcross) although can't remember if that was there 2 years ago when you were last here. lol

Plus the car park across from John Lewis. The parts around the Clocktower have been re-done with new slabbing making it a bit of a clone of the majority of other cities, although it does look nicer, it has to be said. I'm sure others will have more info. Now i'm stuck for thinking of new things. :/

You won't recognise it now ,

It's become a beautiful place ,completely transformed , with hanging gardens , open air ampitheatres , magnificent statues , new gardens, lawns and lakes laid out around st georges park area .truly a modern day Atlantis

Quite breathtaking in fact :D

nah a few more boarded up windows and Jacobs camera shop looks a bit worse for wear, and some old bridge has been pulled down in brauny gate but you'l feel a warm nostalgic welcome when you get back i'm sure

A lot of people got their knickers in a right old twist about that, I can tell you . There were all sorts of insults being traded on this forum and I think the Lord Mayor And davieg stopped talking to each other .

But it's all water under the bridge now

( well it would be if there was still a bridge )

The Globe has closed. John Smiths smoothe is still a crap pint. The underpass on Granby Street near the station has been filled in and normal crossed put in its place. There are less jobs available. And Leicester has a new manager.

I'm two month younger than you.

The fans are a lot more reasonable when things don't go quite to plan , there's a lot less ridiculously high expectations, and knee jerk reactions to poor performance are now a thing of the past .

If i know Leicester City Fans... and if i know Foxestalk... then this will be a slight misrepresentation of the truth..... :D

Just got back from going out and will go check the Leicester City forum.... managed to catch the first half as a compromise with the wife but then had to head out....

Leicester Grammer School has relocated on the outskirts of Leicester and the train station has been done up a bit.

It has? This was my local in my young days, though haven't been in in years as it seemed to have gone a little winebarified. :(

The mayor has changed!

Bloke with the rucksack still wonders around town, only yesterday I saw him in a conversation with two of the many coppers who were stationed in the city centre to prevent more hoodlums smashing up poundland again

When I first moved to Syston 19 years ago I regularly used to see a guy dressed as Robin Hood, whatever happened to him?

Pretty sure there's still a bridge over the canal. If there isn't, plenty of DMU staff and students will be slightly miffed..

I went back in June after 4 years away, and nothing really had changed.

Bloomin' heck. Has it really? First I've heard of that. Had my first legal pint in there with my dad and became a regular after any rugby matches we used to go to.

The amount of foreigners that have entered the City

But foreign beers are OK, right?

Look after your brain cell, it's feeling a little lonely.

He might not drink? and anyway, the city centre is overun with foreign nationalities, Theres no getting away from that fact, and no getting away from the fact, that most people in this country, let alone Leicester are against the current numbers.

Leicester city centre has changed, Cant say i go into town that much these days, but i know my missus is reluctant to, due to high number of non-English people just hanging around looking menacing. And before you start, she has good reason to, as she got her belongs nicked from her handbag, whilst pushing my 1 year old son around.(and yes, it was russians that did it)

People who think the massive number of foreign nationals here a good thing, need to take their rose tinited glasses off

on a good note, we have the "curve"
