Why Can't we sign a striker?

For the love of god!!!! Why do people still think that Sven is majorly involved in the transfer process!!!

He DOESN'T put a value on players and make the bids himself!!

He just indicates who he wants and the rest is up to the owners and Andrew Neville!!

He has NOTHING to do with contract negotiations either. I swear some people picture him sat across a small table with the player on one side and him on the other with a typewriter, typing out the contract as he goes!!!

If he did type the contract it would start like this

"Wellllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll, Iiiiiiiiiiiii......"

ok so f we now go in with a 5 mill bid for maynard does that mean he thinks hes a 5 million pound player??

if so why was we messing around with 3.5 mi bids.. theres cheeky bids and theres taking the piss..

if were REALLY tying for a striker should we be taking the

piss with bids?

Of course you start with a lower bid! Unless as I said earlier you're so wealthy that money is immaterial.

I'm glad that city are being financially prudent and hope that we can get Maynard before the window shuts for the right price for both clubs.

I saw on Sky sport that West Ham is after him....

21st Century Fox, needs to move back into the 20th century and realise that majority of people and mankind brains is full of shit, and people want to believe whatever they want to........(READ the conspiracy shit on general chat)

Don't get me wrong I wasn't having a go at you, I just think some people misinterprete Sven's role in the transfer process. Its like when clubs have a Coach and a Director of Football, we pretty much have Andrew Neville for that. God knows how much more messed up football finances would be if they actually left managers in charge of the chequebook.

No offence taken... You're correct in this of course

It's the same as commissioning managers in health and social care in the private sector. The manager assesses someone as suitable for their service and then the commissioner starts the ball rolling of agreeing fees. I would expect however that the manager provides the commissioner with the knowledge and the information needed to assist the latter with negotiations.

I've got a quiet day at work tomorrow, I'll give the conspiracy shit a read. I'll also grind up a few valiums and have a snort.

if we pay 5 million for him then we must value him as a 5 million pound player as you say.

so 3.5 million pound bid is crazy. as i said its all well and good a cheeky bid but to take the piss is a waste..

so does taking the piss with bids really class as REALLY trying ? it dont to me..

it can show the player/ selling club were not really that interested.. it can leave chance that other clubs can steal the deal.

Yeah absolutely. As Andrew Neville isn't a football man, Sven will have more influence (he still chooses the players obviously) rather than if we had an actual Director of Football like Damien Comolli at Liverpool.

Bit off topic but I read somewhere that Liverpool are using something similar to Sabermetrics for selecting and valuing players as John Henry uses it in his baseball franchises.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sabermetrics

Kind of interesting if you like that sort of thing.

Can't see past much more than a panic buy on the last day of the window now. Panic in the sense of an as of yet unlinked player or panic in the sense of an extra 3 or 4 million on top of past bids.

Sven wants a striker that is quick, has quality & is a proven goslscorer. These players are usually courted by far better teams than Leicester & their clubs usually want a fortune for them. That is why we have not signed a striker. We could sign someone tomorrow but would they fit into Svens strict requirements?

Why oh why can't we sign a Striker? The team is desperately crying out for one. It was plainly clear at the end of last season we needed one. Nugent can't do it

on his own up front. Most teams have two. The other options of Gallagher, Vassell, Waghorn are not good enough and never score any goals. Before people mention

Schlupp he is not experienced enougth at this level and he was caught out against Reading. Sven needs to sort it, I am concerned that no-one wants to come? Even Leeds managed to sign Keogh,

Florist got Miller all proven at this level. Unless we sign another Championship striker we ain't doing nothing this season!

calm down dear!!..........:sge:probably never realised until you raised it here. Im sure he's on the case now! :D

The question should be "Why can't we buy a striker for a realistic sum?" which it seems we're trying to do. Sven and probably Vichai don't want to pay over the odds and I for one am pleased with that.

Just wished that other clubs weren't playing silly buggars.

do you think Maynard fits the bill ???

Well obviously we're going to start lower. If we valued him at 5M and they valued him at 3M and we went in with a 5M bid we'd be ripped off. You start lower, then go higher...

But we need someone, ANYONE.

No matter if they are shit or not. These same people wouldn't complain about a lack of quality would they?

one answer to the thread question is most certainly money, even though we are ritch we have spent alot and probley dont have enough money left

Then we ain't rich. more like they watched our start n don't want to risk it.

And no I am not anti Sven i think we will turn it round. And also learn how not to give away goals.

There's a whole lot of potentially contributory factors - clubs/agents setting up Dutch auctions, clubs not wanting to sell or not wanting to sell to a Championship rival, Leicester's priority not necessarily coinciding with the players most easily available, hedging on price (economics for us, time consuming for those who don't want to sell) and the hopes of good players that they get an irresistible offer from a higher level.

All this could mean there will be no-one suitable available to buy at the death or there will be four or five strikers available at the same time which could be fun!

We should have sorted the situation long ago. It's not as if we've been caught out by losing someone unexpectedly, because we haven't had any good strikers at the club for years, apart from Yakubu on loan.

As usual we've been more interested in rebuilding our defence and, ironically, that doesn't look at all convincing.

I've understood that we could have had Mackail-Smith and, watching him a couple of times this season I really can't believe we reportedly cooled on the guy.

His movement, timing, ability to lose a maker and ways of getting behind defences is exactly what we've wanted. He gets into so many scoring positions and even though he doesn't take em all he looks a certainty for the 20 goals-a- season-plus that we require.

Craig Mackail-Smith is at Brighton now.

You can never tell how a player turns out to be when he's signed for another club.

We do not require a 20-plus-goal-striker, this myth has been debunked officially thanks to previous clubs' records.

20 goals a season are hard to achieve, anyway. Only a few players have managed to achieve that feat over the past 10 to 20 years, and it's become increasingly harder to score 20 goals in one season at this level.

Besides, why all the criticism when we've only played four league games? Wasn't the formation at F**4st something positive to draw from? Any thoughts on that by any chance?

The club has been looking actively for additions up front for weeks and probably even months now.

We're not the only ones competing in the market and Andrew Neville has stated several times that deals can either be completed in a matter of days or take much longer. You can never tell.
