Webbo Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 The Leicester supporters who were there, listened to the radio, read the Mercury will know the truth. Nobody else will care.
Mack Posted 28 August 2011 Author Posted 28 August 2011 Fair enough they can't show everything but the thing that annoyed me was this they gave the impression that we only won because of the third goal rather than our great dominating performance in the first half. Exactly mate. And this is my point. OK they have time constraints, but at least show a balanced overview of the game, not something that is not a fair reflection. It's the second week they have done it, last weeks was worse with Forest but to suggest we stole that game with a dodgy goal is a Saints point of view, not a neutral one.
FrankieADZ Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 its the BBC...they only see what they want to see
Mack Posted 28 August 2011 Author Posted 28 August 2011 The BBC's coverage is getting worse. I like how it showed numerous Soton chances in the second half but didnt show Schlupp getting fouled in the box, Konchesky's first free kick which forced a good save, Fernandes' header which went close or the save produced from Mills' header from the corner. Spot on mate. I get the feeling the BBC have some sort of ethical issue with our spending policy and cant wait to show us with our pants down getting a shoeing. That is very much Claridge's opinion also, and he is entitled to it, but he is working for the BBC, a broadcaster than asks for impartiality from it's employees.
David Guiza Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 There were no decent penalty shouts in yesterdays game, maybe from some angles it looked it. But both times they got the ball fairly cleanly. At the end of the day as some have said, they can't show us for 10mins every week, the higher we get up the table the longer we'll be on though. Based on how much QPR were on last season.
davieG Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 Isn't this how the programmes used to be? Star Soccer for instance, with Hugh Johns and MOTD with Jimmy Hill.. Used to just show the games, with commentary and then very little after match analysis? Can't remember if this was better than now cos my memory is crappy. Let's be honest though, the 'analysis' of matches won't go away... Just look at Sky... Tons of new computer systems and fancy graphics both before and after the game... In the end, the actual footage will virtually disappear and be replaced with ever more chat I fear Well that's Sky the have the whole day every day to fill where as the BBC highlights have to be slotted into a limited time frame - chalk and cheese.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 Highlights rarely give an acurate representation of a game, but I was annoyed by the suggestion that Bamba fouled Lambert, yet no criticism last week about Konchesky getting flattened for Forest's 2nd - or indeed, much criticism of that ref at all!
Rincewind Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 I missed the hilights cos I was doing something on Ebay. When I turned to look at the TV they were just showing a replay of the third goal which they said turned out to be the winner. How? City were 2-1 up and increased the lead by two goals. To win Saints would have to score 3 and 2 to draw. So they pulled one back. They were still behind. I did try rewinding the programme after it had finished but a message said they were having tech problems. So I went bed. Will watch it on Iplayer or Foxplayer latere. Remember how it was a few years back? (a lot on here wernt born) ITV and BBC used to share the games. They had one or two big games each and maybe goals from the rest. ITV used to show the regional games Soany big team playing Leicester may have been shown or local derbies. Think there were less analysis and rabbit back then. I wonder ifans want the 'experts' in the studio views? I know when I am stopping at my brothers he records MOTD and fast forwards throughthe chatter. Last time we did note how much was spent on action and talk. Forget what it was but there was more talk.
Leicestonion Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 We did not deserve a penalty yesterday. Every time they won the ball in my opinion. Say again? I don't understand what you mean? I get the first bit, but the second bit makes no sense.
jamesmilner Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 we are tenth in the league , when we are 1st , we can then moan about exposure time .we are also very biased towards our team like others . it wasnt a penalty for me anyway.it wasn't great to watch live, my nails were already down to the knuckle before i watched it again .
easilee Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 Don't mind any more about how they report on us. In fact I think I prefer that pundits slag us off a little. It should fire the players up a bit if it is their peers and colleagues who are doing it week in week out. It could become a fully-fledged tactic. The 'Ip Man-ager technique'. Just quietly and politely go about our business not looking for trouble but when it does kick off...BLAM !! Lethal football force. Hiii-yah!! (Off topic but Just watched Ip Man 1+2. Highly recommended if you like your Kicker movies)
Mack Posted 28 August 2011 Author Posted 28 August 2011 Highlights rarely give an acurate representation of a game, but I was annoyed by the suggestion that Bamba fouled Lambert, yet no criticism last week about Konchesky getting flattened for Forest's 2nd - or indeed, much criticism of that ref at all! Very good point. And this is not about the amount of time or exposure we get. It's about the report of the game be it 50 minutes or 50 seconds being accurate and unbiased.
gazfox9 Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 I agree with the OP. Wouldn't have been happy if Bamba's goal had been given against us.................... erm, wait a mo, what about Forests equaliser last week?? When debating the decision on the FLS last night, predictably it shouldn't have been allowed, even though Forest were practically given two points last week and that was hardly worth mentioning (Schmeichel throwing the ball into the crowd ffs!) We are getting shite coverage from the media it seems, nevermind, hopefully we'll continue improving and they'll soon be playing kiss ass if we start flying up the table.
Rich Fox Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 To be honest I think because the BBC have claridge and Manish who is supposed to be a City fan they have to go way over the top and in there usual PC way always look for any faults in our play and show everything the opposition does right, the programme is a waste of breath so is claridge and Manish whatever his ****in name is.
bluesbrothers Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 The irony of all this is that if Bamba had gone in like that in the first 25 minutes, it would have been a stone-wall foul. The Ref, however, to his credit, let the game flow, which I much prefer to see from officials, and it meant he was more lax with challenges and so some questionable challenges went uncalled - Schlupps for example, and of course the Lambert own goal. We got lucky, i'll accept, but the flowing game helped us out too. Vassell's shout, im afraid folks, was just a bloody good challenge. I saw it from the Kop, i think folks were just clutching at straws after the frustation of letting a 2 goal lead slip. Fact is, the more free flowing game the ref let come out after about half an hour actually damaged our prolonged spells of pressure - we got less dead balls, they got posession back more often as a result and built on it, and by the time we'd switched to 4-3-3 in the second half (why, Sven?) they were in the ascendency. But the main positive to take from this game has to be that, in all the time i've been going down to Filbert Way, we've never looked so deadly from set pieces! You may moan and groan next time we get a stop and start ref, but i now have some real confidence in our attacking prowess from free kicks and corners. And Peltier, when on, gives a decent long throw too. Remember, this time last year we were stuck in a club record slump of what became over 200 corners without a goal! Thank god Bruno Berner broke that duck, eh?
easilee Posted 29 August 2011 Posted 29 August 2011 By Jonathan Liew Here's a fun game you can play whilst watching The Football League Show on a Saturday night. It's called 'Spot the Bus'. Every time they introduce a match highlights package with a shot of the visiting team getting off the bus outside the ground, finish your drink and top it up again. By the time the first half-hour is out, you'll be numb enough to find even Mark Clemmit entertaining. Einstein, during those rare moments when he wasn't busy posing for photos with his tongue sticking out, proved that time is elastic and flexible, that a minute to you is not necessarily a minute to me. And by far the longest minute that exists in this or any universe is one spent watching Manish Bhasin and Steve Claridge on The Football League Show. It's not their fault, I hasten to add. Their job is virtually an impossible one. The time available on the show – 75 minutes to cover near-on 72 clubs – renders any treatment cursory at best. A couple of quick words on this club, and then on inexorably to the next, and the next, and the next. It's the equivalent of a newsreader reporting on the day's events by going through the phone book and addressing the affairs of each citizen individually. In fact, you wonder how Bhasin and Claridge might cover the week's news. Bhasin: "We've seen the assassination of the al-Qaida number two Atiyah Abd al-Rahman in Pakistan this week." Claridge: "Decent strike. That'll do their confidence the world of good." MB: "And then there's the resignation of Steve Jobs from the board of Apple." SC: "Yeah, he obviously felt he didn't have the fans behind him, but you wish him well." MB: "Meanwhile, in Libya, the rebel troops are closing in on Colonel Gadaffi." SC: "He'd be a great signing for them. When you get someone like that, you're getting experience at the very highest level. It's just personal terms that are going to be the stumbling block with that one." MB: "All right. Now, here's some footage of Kate Middleton and Prince William getting off a bus." But then, in news, there's a recognition that there's only enough room for certain items. Even in sports like athletics, as Channel 4 have shown, there is a broad consensus that the 20 km race walk is a sideshow at best and can be wrapped up with a neat 15-second package. It is only in football that everyone must be covered. Everyone must get mentioned. The condition of being a football fan is one of permanent indignation. But more than that, it is the most resilient superiority complex devised by man. Why does Match of the Day always put my club on last? Why didn't my club's manager respond to the 16-page tactical dossier I sent him? Why is everyone, from the mainstream media that doesn't cover us, to the pundits who know nothing about us, to the girlfriend who doesn't care about us, to the rival clubs who always get more luck than us – why is everyone so stupid? The Football League Show does little to placate them. The idea of covering every team is a crazy one. You couldn't possibly build up the required knowledge of every single Football League club without pushing other useful information, like remembering how to sit on a chair, out of your brain. Neither Bhasin nor Claridge are demonstrating any such loss of faculty yet, which is why their coverage of each club can only ever be skin-deep, even if by some miracle they were granted the 48-hour time slot required to discuss them in detail. I don't know the answer. Perhaps the BBC should restrict their coverage to the Championship, which frankly deserves an hour and a quarter on its own, and put the goals from the other divisions up on the website (which even people from Morecambe have access to now). Perhaps they should cut the analysis out of it altogether and just show goals. Or perhaps they should just stick in some more shots of teams getting off a bus. I counted at least six on Saturday night's show, and, as I remember, for some reason the programme seemed to improve immeasurably as it went on.
John Matrix Posted 30 August 2011 Posted 30 August 2011 ^^the point about MOTD showing your team last is true in the case of Leicesters last run in the Prem. we were last just about every week, regardless of how good the game was.
Alexikokopops Posted 30 August 2011 Posted 30 August 2011 Until you've checked with other teams, how do you know that this is a Leicester specific thing? There could easily be as many omitted incidents, if not more, for other games. At the end of the day there's a limited time frame to get about 30 off games in, so they're going to have to cut out some stuff.
MrSpaM Posted 30 August 2011 Posted 30 August 2011 Anybody else think it might have something to do with the fact the programs presented by a Leicester fan, and an Ex-Leicester player?
Mack Posted 30 August 2011 Author Posted 30 August 2011 Anybody else think it might have something to do with the fact the programs presented by a Leicester fan, and an Ex-Leicester player? Surely that would mean the opposite?
MrSpaM Posted 30 August 2011 Posted 30 August 2011 Surely that would mean the opposite? They cant be seen as being biased at all though can they. If they waffled on about us for any length of time they'd be inundated with complaints from fans from other clubs.
Phube Posted 30 August 2011 Posted 30 August 2011 They cant be seen as being biased at all though can they. If they waffled on about us for any length of time they'd be inundated with complaints from fans from other clubs. Gary Linekar was always nice to us!
Mack Posted 30 August 2011 Author Posted 30 August 2011 They cant be seen as being biased at all though can they. If they waffled on about us for any length of time they'd be inundated with complaints from fans from other clubs. So they are completely shit to us instead? I am not buying that. Claridge has an ethical issue with our spending which is some personal crusade. The presenter is probably too busy to pay proper attention. In my opinion The Football League show is a shit half cocked attempt to cover the football league that has neither the time of resources to do the job properly. As a result they make important errors and often fail to reflect games accurately. They would probably get a more accurate reflection by letting the respective local radio bods make an appraisal of games, and not some bloke sitting in a booth talking bollocks over 50 seconds of clips for each game.
Phube Posted 30 August 2011 Posted 30 August 2011 Still at the bus comment. Every week we see Sven getting off a bus at the away ground... since he's been here... WHY?!?!
