What's really in our food?

Been watching some conspiracy video's lately and I have come across some on the internet mentioning about dangerous chemicals being put into food and water, such as Bisphenol A, Aspartme, Sodium Flouride etc and now some products are labeling that they are free of these chemicals. I've been doing some research and it doesn't really seem like there's any conclusion to these chemicals, where our government says BPA is safe yet other governments propose a ban on it. Just wondering if others have any better knowledge on this, normally I wouldn't take any notice about conspiracy videos but this might have some weight, most of us just don't even question what's in our food and water.

There are some good videos on this subject that I've seen, I'll have a look tomorrow and post them.

This one is fresh in my mind though as I watched it the other day. There is a bit of info about fluoride in drinking water and chemicals in food.

Now seems as good a time as any to say Fluck Monsanto mang.

Check out a lecture by Russell Blaylock, M.D. on nutrition and health. It's available on google video - well worth the watch. MSG is pretty evil as it turns out.

I forgot to llok for the vids today, will try to remember soon.

That said, I only eat free range rabbits, water cress that I grow in the cistern (to make sure nobody tampers with it) and drink pure vodka so I'm not worried. Just need a spacesuit to protect me from all the metallic particles and chemicals they are putting in the clouds and I'll be sorted yo.

Really take more notice of what is in food since my daughter was born.

These slimy companies like Monsanto, Unilever will use every trick in the book to put crap in our food.

MSG has a very bad rep so most big supermarkets and produce manufacturers state 'no MSG' but then substitute it with Yeast extract which is pretty much the same thing.

Sorry folks too much Marmite is very bad for you.

The thing is with MSG, it tricks the brain into thinking that your stomach wants more, It's a neural stimulant.

Aspartame. pure fooking evil in a bottle, avoid at all costs.

Iresting video ElEmpty. I've recently changed my diet a lot to take in more organic and less processed food. It really is a minefield going into a supermarket and trying to be healthy. Luckily in Edinburgh we're blessed with some good health food stores and local producers.

One of the worst additives in any food is corn derived sugar - Fructose, Dextrose and Sucrose. I'll try to dig out a video I saw on this recently. This is basically the cause of obesity worldwide, much more so than fatty food.

I've given up dairy recently, which has been surprisingly easy. Again it's another food we take for granted which, is just WIERD when you think about it. That's before you even consider the detriment is has to health and the terrible conditions dairy cows are generally kept in.

I'm also very wary of salt due to previous health issues, and once you pay attention to it, the more you realise the murder that the large food companies get away with. Most people don't understand the link between salt and strokes/heart issues. It's not all about blood pressure as some people thing, hgih salt levels throw your body's entire chemical system out of sync.

The only real answer to these is to cook as much food from scratch as possible, which luckily I really enjoy doing.

I've survived nearly 60 years and they have only just told me I've been on an unhealthy diet? Think its too late now.

I only have a small amount of millk each week. I dont use a lot of salt I dont gouge myself on food. I feel quite healthy if not gym-like fit. If I was advised by my GP to cut out certain products I would.

This is true. Someone I know wentto his doctor and was asked how many pints he drank he replied 16. the doc said thats not too bad in a week. my mate said no, thats per day.

I'm glad I have not got to that stage.

I wonder what the people coming out with these warnings eat and drink themselves.

The producers are trying to make shit food taste good. If you can afford good food it is not an issue. We have built ourselves an economy based on food being cheap and going back is not easy.

Have you noticed any considerable changes at all after changing the diet..?? Do you feel better..?

Sugar - I no longer drink soft drinks, squash etc, and rarely eat sweets - when I do have these products I definitely get energy lows several hours later, and feel hungry

Dairy - cutting this out has had a positive effect on digestion, not worried about calcium etc as I eat loads of greens. Soy milk takes a bit of getting used to, but I prefer it now. Sometime we make our own almond milk.

Salt - this has the biggest effect for me. As I've had a kidney transplant I find if I have a high salt day I get water retention in ankles and just generally feel lethargic. Obviously effects me more than it would most people. Salt works with Potassium to basically power your nervous system, so I combat high salt with a banana or something else high in potassium, and it absolutely works. It also has a large effect on hydration, and I find low salt means I'm more alert and I just generally function better.

Creatine and protein and I'm all good :)

All about balance for me! As I am a gym freak I hit around 3000 calories a day! Clean though mainly White meats and fish with red when I can afford it (student) plenty of fruit and veg! My diet is very low fat though, makes cutting easier! Since I started going to the gym a few years ago my health has also improved, not that is was bad any way but I rarely get a cold!

The main thing for me is Carbs I eat under 100g every two days, and Carbs are an absolute no no past 9 P.M Carbs have to be burned off, because when you sleep they turn to fat, true fact!!

Just make sure you don't over indulge on salty foods and add salt to your food like Chips!

If any one wants advice on dieting for the or other sports feel free to ask :)

These things are in everything but how dangerous are they?

Aspartame is what makes diet fizzy drinks sweet isn't it?

Sodium flouride is in all toothpastes?

Food standards testing is very stringent.

If you're against additives, I suppose the alternative is eating organic and natural everything.

Otherwise, these additives are an inevitability of modern food processing and distribution.

Big lesson from this - Learn to cook and you can easily avoid eating lots of processed food which is full of shit.

Yep, or accept that if you're going to eat processed food, it will have shit in it.

Remember that girl who turned orange from constantly drinking Sunny Delight? Killed the brand off.

Easier said than done when children are fed processed food and don't have the education or choice to eat healthily.

Yes, ironically it's also in most toothpastes too.

A couple of good videos here. The documentary 'Food Inc.' that is used a bit in these clips looks worth a watch.
