accessory Posted 5 September 2011 Posted 5 September 2011 From Sky website Leicester manager Sven Goran Eriksson believes it would be fairer on players to get rid of the transfer window and have it so that clubs can do business all year round. The former England boss brought in striker Jermaine Beckford from Everton for £2.5m on deadline day last week. The Foxes were also said to have made bids for Rangers forward Nicica Jelavic, while a fourth attempt to prise away Bristol City's Nicky Maynard was rejected. But Eriksson admits that a lot of the deals done on the last day smack of desperation and he doubts whether a transfer window is the best system. "You do wonder at times if it is right to have a window," he said. "It was easier when it was open all the time and perhaps fairer for the players. "I am sure much of the business being done on the last day is a little bit desperate and that is not right. I think it was better before, but then I am old!"
Dan Posted 5 September 2011 Posted 5 September 2011 For some reason I can't word why, but this just worries me a little.
Corky Posted 5 September 2011 Posted 5 September 2011 No, keep it. It'll be good to concentrate solely on the football for a few months.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 5 September 2011 Posted 5 September 2011 Never liked the window, better how it used to be a few years ago.
AdamN Posted 5 September 2011 Posted 5 September 2011 He wouldn't be saying that if he saw the Maynard thread(s).
B52 Posted 5 September 2011 Posted 5 September 2011 For some reason I can't word why, but this just worries me a little. The desperate or the old.. Don't worry, Mon is at the same age as Sven and the desperate thing is players getting played with. We had a few offers out there but only one got a contract.
dirty fox Posted 5 September 2011 Posted 5 September 2011 Transfer speculation surrounding players twelve months all-year around sounds pretty average to me. The system now is OK
Matt Posted 5 September 2011 Posted 5 September 2011 No, keep it the way it is, just for the fact that now the window is closed the Maynard thread is now dead.
Houdini Logic Posted 5 September 2011 Posted 5 September 2011 He's hardly calling for a return or particularly slamming the new system, just a simple opinion which, as usual, is being over dramatised by the media
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 5 September 2011 Posted 5 September 2011 Most managers would prefer the older system. I do not know why they ever bothered to change it. It also inflates the price of players and I am sure that there will be one or two majorly unhappy players because they were not allowed to leave for pastures new on deadline day. This will not be because the selling club won't sell but more likely because they do not have time to get anyone else in.
Guest MattP Posted 5 September 2011 Posted 5 September 2011 The only clubs doing desperate deals on deadline day are the ones who didn't prepare properly in the summer.
Fox92 Posted 5 September 2011 Posted 5 September 2011 Don't like it as it is, I mean, in my opinion, it should be closed before the season starts. If it was open during the season, imagine all the players, they would be getting unsettled because of clubs wanting them etc
sphericalfox Posted 5 September 2011 Posted 5 September 2011 They should scrap transfers all together, that'll sort out the mess football's in!
wellyfox Posted 5 September 2011 Posted 5 September 2011 IMO the march system was better no rush at the start of the season. Pick up an inform player in early december if you need him ie injury none performing player. With two dead lines and a short space of time it inflates prices hold out till the last min two or more clubs want your man the price goes higher. And for a smaal club if you got a man scoring for fun you can take the money in nov when they need it. (he may get injured in december. And as have we have seen not pure panic but everyone knew we needed a striker and all held out. Did we really want the guy we got or was he best we could get last minute. I rate beckford and he could be top GS in the division But was he really Sven's first choice ?????????
leicesterseddon Posted 5 September 2011 Posted 5 September 2011 The only clubs doing desperate deals on deadline day are the ones who didn't prepare properly in the summer. Really? What about the clubs that have their star assets plundered by other clubs with only a few days to go, and then are in a position where they have to replace them? Sven's right, the window system should be modified. It just leads to panick-buying, inflated prices and squads that are far too big (because clubs buy contingency players knowing that they won't be able to make signings in November if they get injuries).
Toffee_Fox Posted 5 September 2011 Posted 5 September 2011 Least he didn't lose two key players with an hour to go!
Houdini Logic Posted 5 September 2011 Posted 5 September 2011 They should scrap transfers all together, that'll sort out the mess football's in! They shouldn't tell anyone when they're going to do it either - it'll be like Russian Roulette with whichever team has Ryan McGivern
Narborough_fox Posted 5 September 2011 Posted 5 September 2011 Least he didn't lose two key players with an hour to go! Only gained one. NB: I really do feel for Everton always been my "Prem team". Sort of club I like, especially with Moyes at the helm who is a fantastic manager.
wellyfox Posted 5 September 2011 Posted 5 September 2011 Least he didn't lose two key players with an hour to go! Dont like to fight or provoke but they were not looted.you must really need the money. Be honest no club in a rigth mind would do what EFC did unless it was just for money. your club has left themselves open to what happened. And EFC is a club i have feelings for great tradition n a great welcome. And a club that should have attracted owners like our's
Fox96 Posted 5 September 2011 Posted 5 September 2011 Well, if they scrap it i'll miss Jim White's excitement!
Toffee_Fox Posted 5 September 2011 Posted 5 September 2011 Of course it was because we needed the money, Arteta didn't want to leave, thought lack of money was obvious? We didn't do it for the laugh haha
Kent Posted 5 September 2011 Posted 5 September 2011 Of course it was because we needed the money, Arteta didn't want to leave, thought lack of money was obvious? We didn't do it for the laugh haha So I take it the "request to join Arsenal" was a ploy by the club to save face?
acooling08 Posted 5 September 2011 Posted 5 September 2011 He just wants it opened to he can spend all of our money on Maynard.
Jaspa Posted 5 September 2011 Posted 5 September 2011 The transfer window only exists and persists because of one company; Sky
