Koke Posted 9 October 2011 Posted 9 October 2011 South Africa played for a draw against Sierra Leon thinking their superior goal difference would qualify them for the African Cup of Nations. But these clowns did not even know the CAF rules which says it's head-to-head that counts. So Niger qualify despite losing 3-0 to Egypt cos they have a better head to head than SA The group ended with Niger, South Africa and Sierra Leone with 9 points but Niger qualify due to having better head-to-head than the otheer two. And more embarrassingly SA celebrated their supposed qualification at the end of their 0-0 draw with Sierra Leone Big fail alk round http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2047072/South-Africa-fail-qualify-African-Cup-Nations-mistake.html
somebum Posted 9 October 2011 Posted 9 October 2011 I hope Big Ron isn't commentating at any of the Niger games.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 9 October 2011 Posted 9 October 2011 Most people would naturally assume it would be goal difference tho, they have lodged a legal challenge.
Guest shearfox Posted 9 October 2011 Posted 9 October 2011 Most people would naturally assume it would be goal difference tho, they have lodged a legal challenge. They should read the rules....
Bert Posted 9 October 2011 Posted 9 October 2011 I hope Big Ron isn't commentating at any of the Niger games. Or any of the other games....
Guest MattP Posted 10 October 2011 Posted 10 October 2011 How on earth can a major nation make such a stupid mistake?
purpleronnie Posted 10 October 2011 Posted 10 October 2011 Most people would naturally assume it would be goal difference tho, they have lodged a legal challenge. Never assume, it makes an ass out of you and me. Soz.
Corky Posted 10 October 2011 Posted 10 October 2011 How on earth can a major nation make such a stupid mistake? Mirrors their 2003 Cricket World Cup exit.
Guest MattP Posted 10 October 2011 Posted 10 October 2011 Mirrors their 2003 Cricket World Cup exit. Can slightly understand that as you are working on that in running and it's a bastard to calculate d/l. This was something they knew about 2 months ago, they had to win. It's absolutely unreal not to know the qualification rules.
AmericanScott Posted 10 October 2011 Posted 10 October 2011 Good ol' Benny Agbayani. NY Mets legend. Never forget his his heroics in 2000. Nothing to do with this thread.
Tielemans63 Posted 10 October 2011 Posted 10 October 2011 South Aftica are actually lodging an appeal....they're claiming that the head to head rule is unfair and should be replaced by goal difference (putting them through). Why not appeal on the basis that you're too fvcking stupid to know the rules having never bothered to read them.

Why not appeal on the basis that you're too fvcking stupid to know the rules having never bothered to read them. It's just absolutely unbelievable. Even I knew it was H2H after checking wikipedia before I put my bets on so I knew who needed to win. Absolutely staggering. No wonder African football hasnt moved forward in 25 years when you have idiots like this running the game.
Koke Posted 11 October 2011 Author Posted 11 October 2011 Someone need to own up for this. Some folks at the South African Football Association (SAFA) must pay for this fiasco. If I was the CAF and South Africa lodged an appeal, I wouldn't even listen to their case. I would say this to them

shen Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 Most people would naturally assume it would be goal difference tho, they have lodged a legal challenge. I like how the coach complained that everything ran smoothly in Europe and South America, but Africa is a completely different story. Well guess what, it's head-to-head before goal difference too here you utter numpty
purpleronnie Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 So why didn’t England celebrate like this for actually qualifying friday night?? I'd Love to see a load of awkward englishmen trying to dance.
