StanSP Posted 18 October 2011 Posted 18 October 2011 Oh man. Actually brought me to tears, that did. So much courage from him and massive hearts of the parents who took them in. And keeping him and his brother together. Restores faith in humanity, somewhat!

Unit Posted 18 October 2011 Posted 18 October 2011 ... I'm too cynical for sentimental stuff. Have a crank, let it all out.
Asha Posted 18 October 2011 Posted 18 October 2011 One of my housemates genuinely doesn't know when he was born either, but suggests he's "probably about 30" Apparently in his native country (on whichever day it was) they 'forgot to write it down'.
FoxesAreBlue Posted 18 October 2011 Posted 18 October 2011 Think that's bad? Have a google of a guy called Gary Gatwick. He was found at the Airport just a few days old, no name, no parents etc - there was a programme about him not so long ago - actually went back and met the people who found him etc

StanSP Posted 18 October 2011 Posted 18 October 2011 And then you flip over to the thread about the Chinese hit and run.....back to square one with humanity again Luckily I watched this one 2nd, so I'm on the upward curve. The balance still remains though
Guest MattP Posted 18 October 2011 Posted 18 October 2011 Could of sang like cat being bumraped and he gets through with a background like that. Same as others, too cynical. I actually didn't even think he was that good, couldnt tackle the high notes.
Yojoe36 Posted 18 October 2011 Posted 18 October 2011 What's up with the David Beckham/ Simon Pegg hybrid? Oh, and that guy is beast
ajthefox Posted 18 October 2011 Posted 18 October 2011 Amazing story and it is nice to see but you can bet every dime you have that his story had a significant impact on the judges' opinions, which frankly isn't right. He was a good singer but the standing ovation he got was down to his background.
Webbo Posted 18 October 2011 Posted 18 October 2011 These programmes are so exploitative. Didn't some contestant on the X factor here come up with some sob story a few years back only for the papers to find out it was 90% bullshine?

The Doctor Posted 18 October 2011 Posted 18 October 2011 No time for all this crap - I don't understand why people who have these "sob stories" think the best thing to do is broadcast them to a nation.
Jon the Hat Posted 18 October 2011 Posted 18 October 2011 Amazing story and it is nice to see but you can bet every dime you have that his story had a significant impact on the judges' opinions, which frankly isn't right. He was a good singer but the standing ovation he got was down to his background. Have you ever seen the X factor? the whole thing is a setup. The producers pick people who will make you watch, then select the few who make it to TV, then they manipulate the songs and performances until they get the result that will make them the most money. They will exploit any story that will suck the viewers in, it has nothing to do with talent.

anotherharboroughfox Posted 18 October 2011 Posted 18 October 2011 Did you even watch it ? He actually has a good voice, regardless of his 'sob story' anyway. didn't think he was that great...
21st Century Fox Posted 18 October 2011 Posted 18 October 2011 Didn't some contestant on the X factor here come up with some sob story a few years back only for the papers to find out it was 90% bullshine? That wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. Sob sells. The producers of these shows treat those people and their stories like disposable commodities, if that guys story hadn't got a public reaction you can guarantee that they'd drop him quicker than a hot rock and move onto the next. Thats not to say the people who go into it aren't exploiting themselves to some extent, I saw a quote by Jarvis Cocker (I think) the other day that said that becoming famous was the new getting to heaven. I mean its a nice story and all but the way its presented and the motives behind it are a fairly depressing summation of our times.
The Doctor Posted 18 October 2011 Posted 18 October 2011 Did you even watch it ? He actually has a good voice, regardless of his 'sob story' anyway. No denying that, but one of the main reasons I don't watch trash like the x-factor is because I'm fed up of hearing about how hard person x has had it and I don't see why, if they can sing that well, they feel the need to tell the word their "sob story" rather than just relying on talent. Maybe I'm just a cynical, unsympathetic ****.
Guest MattP Posted 18 October 2011 Posted 18 October 2011 didn't think he was that great... He wasn't was he? He didn't even attempt to sing the high part in the chorus line, even I try that on Saturday nights in the Market Tavern.

What else is there on Tv ? some antique shows? soaps? oh and if you are lucky you might find judge judy or someone decorating a home. At least that guy has a REAL story about a REAL struggle and has genuine courage to go on stage. It doesnt matter if someone makes money from a show ( whats wrong with people making money? isnt that what we all want to do?) it doesnt change the fact his Story is 100% genuine. x-factor isnt just about talent... thats the the whole point of the name of the show... its about people who have that little bit something else. Sure talent is a big part of it.. but its been made into a Tv show for a reason...
