GH1 Posted 4 November 2011 Posted 4 November 2011 Did anyone else hear save jones on talksport? (think he was flogging a book) Asked about the Leicester job. Very cagey sounded to me like he had applied , as he went on about his percentage win rate, and was waiting to hear "let wait and see" and "my record speaks for itself" I would have thought he would have said so if he wasn't interested I mean dave jones but maybe we need save jones!
Ross 'LCFC' Turner Posted 4 November 2011 Posted 4 November 2011 Stringer put on Twitter last week he applied & said on thursday he rung him and he confirmed he's applied, just waiting to hear back.
AmyLGK Posted 4 November 2011 Posted 4 November 2011 I know it's a job, and like all other jobs there is the application and interview stage - but I still find it weird to think that happens. Can you imagine José Mourinho in a job interview

Can you imagine José Mourinho in a job interview Good point, #1 & maybe #2 targets probably just negotiate their packages, funds etc... Further doen the chain would be formal interviews in front of the board or something, hilarious thought.

Fox92 Posted 4 November 2011 Posted 4 November 2011 Always liked Dave Jones. Didn't hear this interview though, but I hope he has applied. I would welcome him instead of some of the other names, such as Keane.

iancognito Posted 4 November 2011 Posted 4 November 2011 He's definitely applied. Dave Jones ticks all the boxes as a manager at this level. He had success at Stockport, made Southampton an attractive footballing side( and would have still been managing at the top level if all that unfounded stuff about the care home abuse hadn't made Saints suspend him) and then built Wolves up into a force again at this level after they'd been struggling in mid table after Lee and Mcghee left. My only concern is that his teams bottle it in the last part of the season. Wolves were 11 or 12 points clear in his second season and they fell back into the play offs and lost. He got them up the following year but Cardiff had the same thing for two or three years where they lost it at the business end of the season. But he also got them to an FA Cup final too don't forget. That aside, he's a bloody good manager, a nice guy off the pitch but will give the players a kick up the @rse if they need it too
Mack Posted 4 November 2011 Posted 4 November 2011 I fail to see why anyone would take Jones over Davies.
Ric Flair Posted 4 November 2011 Posted 4 November 2011 I fail to see why anyone would take Jones over Davies. Jones doesn't cause as much turmoil as Davies does with clubs hierachy for a start. He also moves to the area and works more than 3 days a week. He has an eye for a bargain such as Bothroyd, Whittingham, Burke, Hudson, McPhail and McCormack. I would rather Jones over Davies, but i'm not massively enthralled by Jones anyway. Both bottle it in the play-offs and both have had minimal joy in the PL when they've been there. Jones was doing well at Southampton years ago, but as I just said that was years ago. Got a fit missus if that helps my argument over Billy?

iancognito Posted 4 November 2011 Posted 4 November 2011 I fail to see why anyone would take Jones over Davies. Its a tough call Mack, they've both had success in this league and I'd take either of them to be honest. I just don't understand why if either has applied, an appointment's not been made. Who else is there to apply or interview who's better and available?

iancognito Posted 4 November 2011 Posted 4 November 2011 You can't judge Jones or Davies from their premiership experiences. Both of them had precisely £0 to spend when they were there. In fairness to Davies, O'Neill only took training twice a week. Coaches can do most of that.
Phil Gee's Mullet Posted 4 November 2011 Posted 4 November 2011 I rate Jones, and I would take him as manager above most of the others, certainly better than Keane or Davies. Good proven track record and bearing in mind he the transfer embargo at Cardiff.

Got a fit missus if that helps my argument over Billy? They have not both bottled it in the play offs, Davies has had success in the play offs. The only turmoil that Davies had was with the Forest ownership who put in place some insane unworkable system on transfers and yet he still got them in the top 6. Davies does not only work 3 days a week that is a myth. He does go back to Glasgow for the odd two days here and there, and to be honest O'neill wasn't a track suit hands on Manager day in day out either, and he did us no harm at all. However Jones has bottled it in the play offs.

However Jones has bottled it in the play offs. He regularly fell out with the board at Derby and i'm sure I read various stuff about him having a dust-up with the Preston chairman as well. He always feels like the world is against him. Having said that I am impressed with his ability to get all of his teams in to the play-offs, you cannot take that away from him. The way his Forest team crumbled in the last 2 years though, especially at home to Blackpool alarmed me though.

I heard rumours he liked a wee nip at half time to settle his nerves during his Preston days! If this is true he has gone up in my estimation!
foxes2011 Posted 4 November 2011 Posted 4 November 2011 would be good but Hughes is the new favourate right now .... http://www.oddschecker.com/football/football-specials/leicester-specials/next-permanent-manager
somebum Posted 4 November 2011 Posted 4 November 2011 I have always respected Dave Jones, he does have a good record and perhaps the lads at Cardiff just didn't have the bottle or they knew they were not good enough to stay up?
