Anger over matchday parking.

People are all the same though. They move next to stadiums, gig venues, universities, colleges, leisure parks, train stations etc, and ****ing moan when people use their road to park.

On a rare occasion if I need to go to London I park my car in my mate's cul-de-sac, which is near the train station and has no parking restrictions. Every single time i've done it I get left a pissy note under my wipers from a resident telling me not to park on the street. People need to realise that just because they own a house somewhere does not mean they have a divine right to the public road outside of it.

If it were up to me I'd force a residents' only parking scheme on all residential areas within the city limits to stop this constant whining and make people wanting to come into the city use a bit of initiative.

That 'no-drive, no-car' thing is a horrible idea!!

Oh and LargeAl called the idea retarded, not the person giving the idea. Although that's not to say that person isn't retarded...

That is what they proposed but it would cost the residents money so they rejected it, basically they want free parking on their road but only for them.

As for the Birstall park ride, it seems to have been a bit of a flop so far, always empty, it could be utilised for match days, there is already a fans bus that goes from Birstall I think, at least there used to be.

No one has a divine right to park on a bit of road, we all pay road tax, so it doesn't matter where they park as long as they do so legally.

I do hate people like this. Its the same as those people that buy a house next to an airport and then claim about thrle noise. Annoys me.

Simple answer, bring a law in to say if you don't have a drive, you can't own a car. Would solve all the parking and blocked roads problems

That's one of the worst ideas I've ever heard. Please don't think I'm using hyperbole either, that is genuinely an absolutely terrible idea.

Don't get why some people are saying the residents should just accept this and move on.

Just because the clubs have been around for well over a 100 years that doesn't mean it's alright for people to park wherever the fuck they want to.

They've got no right to moan about legal parking but if people are parking and double yellows and other such places where they shouldn't then they have a right to be annoyed.

Why can't people park where they want to if it's legal? The people in those houses don't own the road, I have the right to park outside of their house as much as they do.

And thats your solution is it, calling people retarded...knob head.. All i'm saying is if its good enough for Tokyo, its good enough for Leicester.

Tokyo- 35 million people (worlds largest) also worlds largest economy for a city. Alpha+ World City..........fantastic public transport.

Leicester-

Preposterous idea.

with regards to the issue i cant blame the lady really.

can say the clubs been there a long time but not every one knows what its like. not everyone are football/rugby fans and some people dont have a clue about either..

lets not forget also the likes of narb road introduced a permit parking scheme which would have shifted a whole load of cars to other desitnations for parking.car park prices as someone mentioned slowly gone up and up. and as they say why should double yellows be allowed just because its match day,

I drive past that new Birstall park and ride every match day and see about 8 cars parked in there, seems like a massive wasted opportunity to me why not try some sort of park and ride to either ground

No need. I have a car and I pay road tax. I'm going to drive to the station and park there like I have done for the past 30 years. I don't want to take a bus - I don't like buses.

Posted

Yeah it's basically Fox Travel. Haven't you seen all of the buses after the game that are down that road next to the roundabout?

They are specific supporters branch coaches (Hinckley, Loughborough etc).

There is one public bus (orange, no 302 I think) that goes past the stadium, otherwise the buses go to Morrisons or Saffron Lane.

I agree with most of this, but why should the residents be up in arms with people parking illegally?

By all means be angry about parking restrictions not being enforced, that's a different argument, but rather think that they themselves have at some point parked illegally! So it's a pretty trite complaint.

I lived down the street from a person like this a few years ago, it was always a nightmare trying to park outside my house so one time I had to park a few houses further down as it was the only spot free. I left my car there for 2 days and then found some pissy little note on my windscreen telling me not to park there anymore. Being bemused by the ridiculous note I went and knocked on her door and told her that I only lived a few doors down and it was the only space free at the time. She preceded to tell me that she didn't care and that I shouldn't be parking outside her house, bear in mind I was parked legally on the street. When I explained the spot outside my house was taken she said she didn't care, so then I replied with why should I care where she has to park if she doesn't care about where I have to park. Long and the short of it was it escalated in a huge shouting match and she was convinced the spot outside her house was her spot and no one elses. This woman strikes me as the same type of irrational person.

Enderby park and ride used to stop for tigers/city but they stopped it cause of lack of use. Mainly as no one knew about it and didnt use it. Good planning leics city/county council

Maybe..............but I'll bet when she's dropping the kid off at nursery, she'll be the bint that's double parked and causing an obstruction.

When I bought my house near the Glenfield Hospital / County Hall the only cars we saw were residents and learner drivers, since then due to complaints from residents up the road from us about Hospital and CH workers parking in their street they introduced restrictions now my street is chock-a-block with parked cars from 8 til 6.30. Fortunately I have a drive but visitors find it difficult.

What can I do FA but that's life.

Most of this is caused by the high charges for hospital visitors and CH introducing their own restrictions forcing people off their car parks onto nearby roads.

There's simple no joined up thinking when it come to transport issues one person's solution becomes another person's problem.

No, as StanSP said, I called the IDEA retarded, not the person giving the idea.

My solution is: quit your ****ing whining, so long as the match-day visitors are parking legally then I see no problem.

The cost on the industrial park is far too much and Morrison's are pissy little bastards but I don't see what the council can do about that.

This is my point. Why the **** do people think they own the road outside their house? Is it annoying if you can't park outside your door? Of course it is. But it's not your right to park there.

Residents have launched a petition calling on the council to stop sports fans parking their cars on a busy road on match days.

People living in Aylestone Road, Leicester, say they are not able to park near their homes when Leicester City or Leicester Tigers are playing at home, due to the number of vehicles parked there.

  • 3340986.png

They are also frustrated that cars parking illegally on match days are not penalised by traffic wardens.

The petition was launched by Charlene Cancellara, 31, of Aylestone Road, who says parking permits for residents would solve the problem.

She said: "I am sick and tired of not being able to park when there's a football or rugby match on.

"They park on both sides of the road, on double yellow lines and down side streets, and residents just can't park anywhere. It's ridiculous.

"When I couldn't get a space the other weekend it was the final straw and I had to start this petition."

Residents say the problem is in the stretch of Aylestone Road nearest the city centre.

Dan Rogers, 31, who lives on this section of the road, said: "There's a parking warden at 8am on the weekdays, but when it comes to match days, the cars park everywhere and the warden turns a blind eye to it.

"You can feel like a prisoner in your own home at the weekend because you can't go out anywhere without fear of losing your parking space."

In 2009, a consultation was held to get views on plans to introduce a residents-only parking scheme, where people living in the area would have to pay for a parking permit. Only 256 out of the 1,045 who responded were in favour of the scheme.

Aylestone ward councillor Nigel Porter said: "I'm aware of the problem down there and I think the key is better enforcement. Traffic wardens need to do a better job of penalising cars parking illegally.

"I can also understand why local people rejected the parking permit before because it would have been costly and it's only a real issue at weekends."

The restrictions along the road include a waiting and loading ban on single yellow lines on weekdays, between 7.30am to 9.30am and 4pm to 6pm.

Leicester City Council said vehicles that park and cause obstruction can be ticketed by police and could be towed.

Deputy city mayor Councillor Rory Palmer said: "I can understand the frustrations of residents but the parking restrictions mean motorists are within their rights to park along this stretch of road within designated times.

"Once the petition has been received, I will discuss the issue with local councillors."

:crylaugh: That is the funniest thing i've read today.

If you don't like it then MOVE.
