Thracian Posted 17 November 2011 Posted 17 November 2011 The club has been there a lot longer than these residents, it's not like they didn't know match days would cause issues. Maybe if the Council relaxed parking regulations on many of the side roads near to the stadium there would be no need to park on that road. Football fans are fair game. The council have compounded the problem by restricting parking close to the University despite the fact that those streets are mainly student lets and little used for residential parking at weekends when many students have gone back home for weekends and during vacation periods when they're not there either. People buying or renting houses close to a football ground know the situation when they take up residence. Another factor is that the university - whose students already occupy the houses I've mentioned, have considerable close-to-the-ground parking failities that stand idle on matchdays. It is all take, take, take with the university and with the council who benefit from the university rates. Another factor is the extortionate parking fees charged for windfall parking on church/rowing club/ factory/ supermarket land close to the ground. Fans can be bled at random and the more readily as the council makes matchday parking ever harder. Five pounds for two hours parking is blatant opportunism. I park all day for £3 in the week. The real Leicester residents who have gone to home matches in the area for 100 years can go to hell. Unless you're our staunch socialist mayor whose set to collect a £44,000 per annum pay rise while people are being made redundant right, left and centre and are sometimes seriously short of money. Oh yes, he's all right Jack. He could go to and from matches by taxi courtesy of the town residents. http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/Public-fury-100K-mayor/story-13874371-detail/story.html
themotivator Posted 17 November 2011 Posted 17 November 2011 living within walking distance of my local football club is a joy.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 17 November 2011 Posted 17 November 2011 Whats she moaning at? The fact that fans are parking legallyoutside their houses? Or that fans are parking illegally on yellows, meaning that she can't park on yellows either?! As mack said, if they made it easier/cheaper to park around the ground then it'd be less of a problem

phillthefox Posted 17 November 2011 Posted 17 November 2011 Merc Residents have launched a petition calling on the council to stop sports fans parking their cars on a busy road on match days. People living in Aylestone Road, Leicester, say they are not able to park near their homes when Leicester City or Leicester Tigers are playing at home, due to the number of vehicles parked there. They are also frustrated that cars parking illegally on match days are not penalised by traffic wardens. The petition was launched by Charlene Cancellara, 31, of Aylestone Road, who says parking permits for residents would solve the problem. She said: "I am sick and tired of not being able to park when there's a football or rugby match on. "They park on both sides of the road, on double yellow lines and down side streets, and residents just can't park anywhere. It's ridiculous. "When I couldn't get a space the other weekend it was the final straw and I had to start this petition." Residents say the problem is in the stretch of Aylestone Road nearest the city centre. Dan Rogers, 31, who lives on this section of the road, said: "There's a parking warden at 8am on the weekdays, but when it comes to match days, the cars park everywhere and the warden turns a blind eye to it. "You can feel like a prisoner in your own home at the weekend because you can't go out anywhere without fear of losing your parking space." In 2009, a consultation was held to get views on plans to introduce a residents-only parking scheme, where people living in the area would have to pay for a parking permit. Only 256 out of the 1,045 who responded were in favour of the scheme. Aylestone ward councillor Nigel Porter said: "I'm aware of the problem down there and I think the key is better enforcement. Traffic wardens need to do a better job of penalising cars parking illegally. "I can also understand why local people rejected the parking permit before because it would have been costly and it's only a real issue at weekends." The restrictions along the road include a waiting and loading ban on single yellow lines on weekdays, between 7.30am to 9.30am and 4pm to 6pm. Leicester City Council said vehicles that park and cause obstruction can be ticketed by police and could be towed. Deputy city mayor Councillor Rory Palmer said: "I can understand the frustrations of residents but the parking restrictions mean motorists are within their rights to park along this stretch of road within designated times. "Once the petition has been received, I will discuss the issue with local councillors." To sign the petition, visit: www.cabinet.leicester.gov.uk/ mgEPetitionDisplay.aspx?ID=29 unless my eyes are crap thats a single yellow line behind her ??? which isnt illegal ..... maybe she should work harder and live in a better area with a drive. thank you and goodnight

dannythefox Posted 17 November 2011 Posted 17 November 2011 I would be proper pissed off to be fair but then again I wouldn't of bought a house next to stadium! I also think that a club the size of Leicester should of thought about this when moving its pretty shit there's no sort of parking even for 2500 cars or something. If they end up stopping us everyone will only drive further down and piss someone else off!

Webbo Posted 17 November 2011 Posted 17 November 2011 I can totally sympathise with the lady. It can't be nice to have to park 5/6 streets away just to go home or not take your car out on a match day because you know you won't get your space back. People should try and put themselves in the other person's shoes before they condemn.

People should try and put themselves in the other person's shoes before they condemn. I can sympathise with her to, if it was me in the same position I'd be royally annoyed (obviously I wouldn't because my car wouldn't move and I'd walk to the football) But at the same time, there is nothing she can do about it. I understand getting annoyed at the cars parked illegally if they're are not being fined, but as for the cars parked legally she's just wasting her energy getting worked up about it. They don't own the road, they have no right to tell people they can't park there. It's annoying, I fully agree with her, but seriously there is so much more in life to worry about than losing a parking space once every couple of weeks.
liamsm Posted 17 November 2011 Posted 17 November 2011 The club do bus services from all over Leicestershire to the stadium. I live in Hamilton on the east side of Leicester, could you tell me where there is a bus service to take me to the KP as i pay £7.50 + my petrol money and have to sit in my car for nearly a hour after the game until the away fans have gone
liamsm Posted 17 November 2011 Posted 17 November 2011 The tell people they can only have 2.4 kids, can only eat 1800 calories a day, can only shit twice in any 24 hours and fornicate twice a week! Apart from the last bit sounds good to me and if you have more than 2.4 kids they dont get any government handouts for them
liamsm Posted 17 November 2011 Posted 17 November 2011 I think people parking illegally on double yellows and blocking drives and causing obstructions should be ticketed, but those that park safely on the road and don't cause an obstruction are perfectly within their right to do so. If there was reasonably priced parking close to the ground people will pay for it, but it's not it is an added rip off on top of the already expensive match day experience. Always managed to find a parking space up around the university and lancaster road, a bit of a walk, but free and normally the traffic is ok by the time we get back to the car. Don't know how up to date the google maps photo of Walkers is but there is plenty of space around it that can be turned into parking, but they only thing that it needs to be is reasonably priced. Where is the walkers? i know where the King Power stadium is, is it anywhere near that

The club has no need to lay on buses for the whole of Leicestershire. There are supporters club coaches (I think?) from the likes of Coalville, Lutterworth and other such places a little further away, but anyone who lives in Leicester can surely just catch a bus in to town? It's not like it's an hours walk away is it? I live not too far away from Hamilton, can catch a bus that takes me to town and back for less than 4 quid and just take a 10 minute walk from the train station down to the ground. I won't do this very often because I am in fact lazy, and when I do fancy more than a couple of pre match beers with my mates then this is the choice I have.

liamsm Posted 17 November 2011 Posted 17 November 2011 If it were up to me I'd force a residents' only parking scheme on all residential areas within the city limits to stop this constant whining and make people wanting to come into the city use a bit of initiative. Bellend for mayor Why just the city? make everywhere have a residents parking scheme the the councils can rip us off for money
StanSP Posted 17 November 2011 Posted 17 November 2011 who put you in charge dickhead !!!!! It was a bit of a 'nob'-ish comment though. Unless you know her, you can't tell her to go get a better job just so she can have a drive. How do you know she's not trying her hardest to find that better job?
liamsm Posted 17 November 2011 Posted 17 November 2011 haha.. most craziest idea of the month award goes to.... all the terrace houses will be empty.. what about flat owners.. rented accomodation.. etc Empty properties!!!!!! that would sort the homeless problem out, they are all skint so they wont have a car
liamsm Posted 17 November 2011 Posted 17 November 2011 I hate people like this. I'm parking outside her house on Sunday. Gotta get there b4 me

I'm rarely the sort of person to say 'that's life', but seriously - it happens for a few hours a day less than 30 days a year. This woman needs to find a hobby and the paper needs to find a real story
m00nie Posted 17 November 2011 Posted 17 November 2011 who put you in charge dickhead !!!!! in charge?? . simply pointing out how you came across..
MC Prussian Posted 17 November 2011 Posted 17 November 2011 That's what you get for having an underwhelming public transportation scheme.
Lesta Legend Posted 17 November 2011 Posted 17 November 2011 There is ALWAYS (free) spaces at British gas on match days about a 30 second walk from where she is..!.. No way would she have to walk any distance from her house and granted more fans should use it too....... But I encounter the same problem as her I live near to the aylestone road however I don't believe I have the right to park in front of my house so I just get on with my life on the few occasions I have to walk... Lazy c**ts 1. Plan your time better around days you know it will be busy 2. Don't be so fecking clueless and move to a house on a busy main round with a football club/ rugby/ cricket club up the road, then think you have the rite for a permit space 3. Make use of your legs more, public transport. For me the council should definitely ignore this, would be a nail in the coffin for match day parking and another barrier to people going to watch city - the stadium looks half full most of the time As for ignoring illegal parked cars I've lost count the amount of cars I've walked passed with tickets on the front after matches.... This women just comes across as petty, bitter and in need of losing that chip on her shoulder... More important things in life and more important things for the council to be spending there money on
