Beckford and Nugent

Can they form a good partnership together?

I don't know , but they've got more chance than Nick and Col city fan :D

Eh up Nick... Long time.. Your posts became nasty (hence Nasty Nick) so I reported you as you know.

Simply I never had confidence in Sven although if you bothered to read back through many of my posts I applauded him when he delivered good victories.

In Pearson I have far more confidence that he genuinely knows what he's doing. Tactically I believe in him, I think he's a motivator and will undo some of the bad things that Sven appears to have done.

Dave was critical of Sven and remains pessimistic now.

Sven had his chance IMO, now we need to give Pearson his.

I'd rather you keep me on block Nick cos our conversations usually end up in frustration so it makes sense to.

Take care mate

I'm sure I read l;ast week that you were in your forties?

Is that correct?

You reported someone?

In today's Mercury Pearson is bigging Beckford up and boosting his confidence. I really hope Jermaine can settle here and rip the goals in, the clip at the end of the highlights on the BBC website show him smiling and hugging Nigel. This could be the start of something big. I can get the same buzz when Beckford scores as I did when Collymore did the business, I just hope it doesn't end the same way.

Pearson's probably arrived at the right time for Beckford and the test will be whether Nugent the workhorse can somehow accept and blend in with the self-loving Beckford and get a result which benefits the team.

Even Sunday though there was a considerable improvement for the better in Beckford's attitutde and body language. That shouldn't disguise the fact that - for all that our fans will remain in denial because he's a "star" and they went him to do well - Beckford had a shocker apart from his goal.

Poor control, simple chances missed, modest work ethic - if that had been Andy King everyone would have said "shit, but for the goal" and marked him down at 4 or 5.

But, he did score, he did win some chances he did look as if he wanted to be playing and I'm quite sure Perarson's right in trying to build his confidence because that's the sort of player he is - he wants to be worshipped.

But he shouldn't be under any illusions that he needs to improve, and in various ways. Pearson might well help him - I only say might because people are what they are underneath and permanent change isn't easy for anyone. But if he does it will be a major achievement.

Actually no, I had no idea you 'reported me' - Scary stuff.

My posts became aggressive because I stuck up for Bert - and what I wrote was not even directed at you. Your reply however, was to "crawl out from my own arsehole" - don't post that sort of language then go crying to Moderators when the retorts to your own baiting start to feel 'nasty.

I simply stopped posting because I no longer possessed the motivation to attempt to reason with you as it mattered not what I wrote as it seemed you did not have the ability to critically reflect on anybody's replies, which negated the purpose of any debate - you may as well have posted letters

to yourself than taken part in any useful exchange of thought that involved any hope of inducing any experiential benefit.

That's what happens when you argue with your heart not your head - And your heart hated Sven from the very first mention of his tenure - you were only happy when we signed players or won a match - aside from that, all negative.

I'm sure you are a decent bloke really, it's just the sheer weight of your negative posting that made me visit a site

that I have been involved in for years (without too much conflict I might add) much less frequently - your barrage of scrawling Sven-knifing, actually began to make me fairly unhappy to be on these boards.

I don't think actually you have a clue just how much and how many people you have riled with you frustratingly

persistent and negative posting during the Sven era.

I'm hoping Nigel Pearson brings out the best in you and I'm pleased you've not 'put the blinkers on' early doors, with this manager and that you are going to 'get behind him' and give him a chance - we both know you never really did that with Sven. (Being vaguely happy when we won can't really be

labelled 'getting behind the manager')

I will keep you on block as requested, no problem.

N.

A few points to make nick..

1. I apologise for the comment I made which obviously grated on you more than I thought it would/could

2. If you were put off by some of my ramblings about Sven, some of the more vindictive ones must have had you champing at the bit! lol

3. I was prepared to give Sven a chance but must have been one of the first ones on here to publically voice my concerns about him. As you and many others did, there was a ridiculous amount of Sven loving that went on last season and I'm not surprised what happened, happened.

4. I think we now have a good manager to take us to the next level. But if I'm wrong then I'll continue to post whatever concerns I may have along with everyone else. Hell, some are doing it already....

5. This is a forum Nick.. Take it for what it is.. Some people think you're ok, some don't.. ( you're as in 'everyone')

I reported you for the continued hostility ( not banter but nasty stuff) that you were giving me. I'm not the only one to use this term on here.. 'Antichrist' has also come up, though not by myself.

6. Anyway enough already. As I said take care

Are you saying that Beckford and Nugent aren't good enough at this level?

And that Wellens and King aren't either?

You're expectations are grander than most Dave.

I'm optimistic that Nige will get the players we have playing consistently better.

I'm convinced you won't be happy unless we are beating teams three nil every week.. Which ain't gonna happen

Give Pearson a chance and start looking at the positives.

You're constant criticism ( although sometimes constructive I must confess) is getting too predictable. You are sounding like a miserable bugger, as I said yesterday.

We are in a strong position for the play offs and now have a better manager at this level IMO. Let's hear some happier stuff Dave

Back to the footy......;)

I think all four of the players are good at this level, I do not think Wellens is good enough to play the pivotal midfield role in a side looking for promotion but in a different setup or a different team I'm sure he would do fine.

I just happen to think that the King / Wellens pairing is not effective, I think there is plenty of evidence for that and that Beckford / Nugent will not work as a strike partnership, that of course is just a 'gut feeling' at this stage. I would love to be proved wrong on this......

I'm really not sure where you get some of your ideas from though, I do not expect us to win every game but generally I do expect us to try, if we do that and get beat then I can live with that. What I found hard to take, and the reason I took a few games off, was that there have been times when we have taken to the field seemingly unprepared, poorly set up and with a few of our players appearing to be 'going through the motions', That I found hard to take.

I have been extremely positive about NFP's return and was delighted by the result on sunday, the Pearson effect was there for all to see. Unlike some and despite the 3 goal margin I did not think we played particularly well at all and said so, but this is very early days. Last time around NFP produced a lot of very decent results out of very ordinary performances, given that we have some better players and the funds to add more does actually make me feel rather optimistic.

There is no reason why these two cant get a good run of goals together and become a good partnership up top.

Nugent does the running and can finish.

Beckford will score if he is given the chances.

Aslong as they start getting played regularly ( week in week out ) there is no reason why they can't fire us up this season. they both have got quality. get Kebe on the wing and start whipping in some crosses.

Thats the most positive youve sounded for a long time Dave. Good on ya

Regarding your 'gut feeling' that the front pair can't play well together... I see them as different types of player. Nugent is the work horse who runs into the channels and has a good finish on him when he gets the chance. Beckford is more of a instinctive striker IMO who won't put as much effort in, but is probably a more natural finisher when he gets into the right positions. I see no reason why they can't play well together to be honest, although I still wouldnt be surprised if Nige wants to bring his own striker in when the transfer window opens.

I agree, I think it was more of a 1-0 game, so 3-0 will do very nicely, as it will help our goal difference,

hopefully pearson can get the best out of beckford like he did fryatt (no one else got fryatt playing) i hope beckford finds form aswell as i do with every leicester player. the guy looked really pleased and happy with his goal sunday, nice to see

The Flair speaks true.

Nugent is a grafter and Beckford is a poacher and IF they can work together and Nige gets Beckford in the mood and thus the groove... result!

You are right but Nugent's graft is mainly done at the top of the pitch, I think for them to work well together he needs to drop back a bit and take up space behind Beckford and provide more of a link between the midfield and the attack, Beckford as the number 9 and Nugent as the number 10, if we are playing with wingers we don't need him running out wide because we have men out there.

I don't know if that really suits his game though, so far this season he has been our spearhead and I would rather he was playing in his best position, I can't see Beckford being able to play anywhere else and any other way. Out of the 2 we should be setting ourselves out to play to Nugent's strengths, as our best forward, and not Beckford's.

It's undeniable that Beckford is prolific when played with a big man; see the useless lump Tresor Kandol and later Becchio at Leeds. Nugent for me has some of the attributes to play a deeper lying role - strength, work ethic and a great first touch - but the question is do you sacrifice the reliable but relatively meagre contribution of Nugent in an advanced role in order to bring out the best in the potentially brilliant but frustrating Beckford, or indeed lose one of them altogether.
