David Haye set to come out of retirement to fight Vitali Klitschko

I'll seriously consider another fight - Haye

Former heavyweight world champion David Haye is in talks to fight WBC title holder Vitali Klitschko in March 2012.

Haye, 31, who retired in October after losing to the Ukrainian's brother Wladimir, says he will lower his pay demands to make sure the fight happens.

"I haven't seen a contract but there's definitely talks going on," he told the BBC's Hardtalk programme.

"I said before I retired I would love that fight and there's a date in March that's already been talked about."

He added: "I said I'd want to fight Vitali, the big brother of Wladimir, who beat me in my last fight. They're the only guys I'd consider coming out of retirement for."

London-born Haye, who had moved up from cruiserweight to take the heavyweight crown, lost his title in a unification bout when he was beaten on points by Wladimir in July and announced his retirement three months later, on his 31st birthday.

The Briton said after the fight that his performance against the WBO, IBF and IBO champion had been affected by a broken toe.

Haye admits nothing is certain yet on the proposed match-up with older brother Vitali.

"Whether it happens or not I don't know," he said.

"What I will do is make sure I am in good shape so if the fight for whatever reason does happen, if they give me what I believe I deserve and if the date for the TV networks all comes together, then it would be something I would seriously consider."

Haye also admits that he "does not deserve" a 50/50 split in match revenue this time around.

"The last bout was a 50/50. This time I don't deserve that. I don't have a title, but what I do bring is excitement and I bring a value - but I don't believe it's 50/50."

Haye had previously won the WBA belt by beating giant Russian Nikolay Valuev on points in Germany in November 2009.

He then defended his title by stopping American John Ruiz the following April, while his other successful defence came against fellow Briton Audley Harrison in Manchester.

The full interview will be broadcast on Hardtalk on Monday, 5 December on BBC World at 0430 GMT, 0930 GMT, 1530 GMT & 2130GMT and on the BBC News Channel at 0430 on 5 December and 0030 on 6 December.

I personally have never had a broken toe and so i don't know how much it effects your balance and movement... I don't even know if it was a genuine injury. But i would love to find out in March time or whenever it will be...

I think this fight will either make a few of us eat our words or shut him up for good.... Either way we will find out i guess....

I can understand this one. Hayes gets a massive pay packet and Vitali Klitschko gets an easy fight.

Exactly this.

Haye was always scared of Vitali as well, unlike Wlad he's a mean bastard who enjoys hurting people.

I could understand Haye wanting Wlad even though I gave him no chance against either as Wlads chin has been shown to be suspect, but he doesnt stand a chancein this one, Vitali has never been on the floor and walked through Lennox Lewis's best punches until a cut stopped the fight.

He'll try and run for 12 and take a loss decision, I hope Vitali gets him and puts him out of his misery.

Always about the money for him, which I guess is understandable, you don't want to get your head punched in for nowt. Comes across as a big girls blouse though.

Sky hype machine will go into overdrive here, trying to convince us it won't be 12 rounds of haye running away again.

Think most of us know better.

It's a pre-requisite for a boxer to come out of retirement for a payday at least once.

Probably cos they have nothing else to fall back on.

I'm not a fan of boxing. But why would someone retire after losing a fight? Am I missing something here?

How can he be referred to as retired? Retarded more like. His "retirement" was just a negotiating tactic.

I used to like David Haye many years ago, I thought that the defeat to Carl Thompson would have taught him a lesson. He's not as good as he thinks and Vitali will smash him up inside 4 rounds.

He always claimed he wasn't going to fight past his 31st birthday, but like Babba said its no doubt a negotiation ploy.
