Walshy5 Posted 14 December 2011 Posted 14 December 2011 Most people say its one or the other as to where the main problem lies but what do you think? Vote and discuss.
Salieri Posted 14 December 2011 Posted 14 December 2011 If I had to stick my neck on the line then i'd say....both.
Guest Col city fan Posted 14 December 2011 Posted 14 December 2011 If I had to stick my neck on the line then i'd say....both. Agree with you there Salieri...
Salieri Posted 14 December 2011 Posted 14 December 2011 Agree with you there Salieri... I blame Beckford.
Libertine Posted 14 December 2011 Posted 14 December 2011 Bit of both but mostly creativity. Don't create nearly enough real chances for the strikers at home IMO.
Hinckleyfox Posted 14 December 2011 Posted 14 December 2011 I really dont think we can have a go at the strikers until they get decent service. If your CM's cant play a simple through ball in time with the strikers run, you cannot blame the frontman. Wellens & King need to be sharper and if beckford still isnt scoring then its a different story, but gotta give the lad a chance first. He didnt score all of them goals for leeds, and to be fair everton, if he was the bag of shite people are claiming he is.
Kitchandro Posted 14 December 2011 Posted 14 December 2011 They are both problems but creativity is the most urgent. Average and even crap strikers can score goals if they are put on a silver platter for them, but good ones can be made to look crap if they are given nothing. The fact is we have 2 strikers who should eb banging them in, and yes they have both been out of form recently (Beckford to a worse extent than Nugent on the whole) but they aren't getting a hatful of decent chances a game. Beckford should defiitely have more than 2 now, no doubt, but it's true he hasn't had much help. I've been repeating myself for the last 6 months but we need a winger, and in the last few weeks it's become obvious that we need a creative attacking central midfielder as well.
Libertine Dream Posted 14 December 2011 Posted 14 December 2011 It has to be creativity, Beckford hasn't become a bad striker overnight and most of Nugent's goals are created in some way by himself. Last year we created chance after chance due to the great style of football, so far this year it hasn't happened like that. Look at our midfield, I wouldn't say they were creative players, Gallagher is a decent passer of the ball, Dyer lacks an end product, King is a busy body and I don't understand what Wellens offers. As a team we are too boring, mainly because Sven brought all the same players so couldn't play an attacking style of football whilst fitting them all in. Danns would have some creativity if he was played in his correct position but apart from that we lack that bit of flair, a game changer and pace in the team. Come January we need a couple of wingers, a playmaker, back up full backs. Also I feel we need a change of formation and/or a different type of striker.
dog_4 Posted 14 December 2011 Posted 14 December 2011 maynard and kebe will be targets i'd imagine! still need someone on the left though!
Yojoe36 Posted 14 December 2011 Posted 14 December 2011 I'd say both. But finishing? HA, we don't dare shoot (apart from Gally) how can you judge our shooting etc. if we don't even try
Libertine Dream Posted 14 December 2011 Posted 14 December 2011 maynard and kebe will be targets i'd imagine! still need someone on the left though! No use if the supply isn't there. Although Maynard is a better striker than our two he requires the same service something he won't get. Kebe is the same to a degree.
ealingfox Posted 15 December 2011 Posted 15 December 2011 ROBERT KOREN CAMERON STEWART PROBLEM SOLVED.
Aeropars Posted 15 December 2011 Posted 15 December 2011 Has to be creativity. I cant remember the last time we took the ball out wide, whipped in a devastating cross which is inch perfect for a striker to head or tap home. even at dead ball situations we struggle to test the keeper. i think we need some quality wide players with a centre mid who will dictate play and tear the other team to bits with quality through balls and spread the play. We're far to predictable at present.
Christoph Posted 15 December 2011 Posted 15 December 2011 Well last year we created one of the most chances in the championship didnt we? I'd say finishing, too many times we've hit the post, gone narrowly wide etc.
ACF Posted 15 December 2011 Posted 15 December 2011 ITS ALL ****ING WELLENS' FAULT. Edit: Well played Mark, well played.
cc_star Posted 15 December 2011 Posted 15 December 2011 Bit of both but mostly creativity. Don't create nearly enough real chances for the strikers at home IMO. I think we create as many chances as most, far too many are off target. Finishing is very wasteful, there is room for a better pass though. I really think both
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 15 December 2011 Posted 15 December 2011 Yes, I too believe that both are lacking. We need a THINKER on the pitch, which is something we don't have at present.
City Fox Posted 15 December 2011 Posted 15 December 2011 We created enough chances against Peterborough it was there for all to see that it was the finishing that let us down We need a goalscoring midfielder if anything
Bugg Posted 15 December 2011 Posted 15 December 2011 Our players are too scared to shoot, we create enough chances just aren't clinical enough, mainly due to our players reluctance to just fooking hit the ball.
Fox92 Posted 15 December 2011 Posted 15 December 2011 I think, on our day, we are capable of creating a fair amount of chances. Take the Peterborough game for example, we created many chances, but they were not finished off - by either hitting the woodwork, or usually, not even hitting the target/putting the ball just wide. That's why I voted for lack of finishing as the problem. I see a post above about goalscorers, but to be fair, both Nugent and Beckford are both goalscorers. Shooting is a problem as well in my opinion. We need to shoot more. I get frustrated watching great build up play, and then seeing us overpass the ball and then we may see ourselves being counter-attacked. Nigel and his staff need to encourage shooting more. We have players like King, Nugent, Beckford, Gallagher and even Konchesky that are capable of shooting and hitting the target from long range, as we have seen in previous games.
Happy Fox Posted 15 December 2011 Posted 15 December 2011 Creativity comes from two areas primarily a playmaker i.e Wellens but his legs have gone and the wing positions if NP can rectify these two areas we will have no problems in creating chances.
acooling08 Posted 15 December 2011 Posted 15 December 2011 I think we aren't good enough creatively. We get to 20 yards from goal and run out of ideas; it just gets passed sideways until we lose it. We need someone with creative spark to pick a pass. Nugent & Beckford are being starved atm.
Number 6 Posted 15 December 2011 Posted 15 December 2011 Think we need a Hoolahan type player who has that free role to create chaces for his team. Similar to Silva at Man City too. These players are difficult to find though.
