ivarti Posted 15 December 2011 Posted 15 December 2011 We all remember Theo Zagorakis, Euro winner with Greece and a great midfielder at his best. He never managed to convince Martin O'Neill that he was a certain choice in midfield, with Neil Lennon at the club, it never happened 100 % for Theo while at Leiceser, despite being a class player. Yuki Abe, a proven international, has also struggled and looks totally out of the picture at the moment, Nigel Pearson looks like he would like British Blood instead of a World Cup star from Japan. There are so many flops at Leicester that has made it other places either before or after, and sometimes you wonder why on earth players have been sold, or bought, if they are in "foxes eyes" useless or not needed, strange !
Saxondale Posted 15 December 2011 Posted 15 December 2011 The main difference is that Zagorakis was being kept out of the side by a ridiculously good midfield - Izzet, Lennon, Savage.
ithuriel Posted 15 December 2011 Posted 15 December 2011 Theo was a good squad player but he was never going to displace Lennon or Izzet from the midfield back when we we're playing decent stuff in the prem. Why you are trying to compare a mid table stabilised prem squad to today's unbalanced, constantly changing promotion chasing squad in defence of a player that has been inconsistent and has to fight for his place is a strange point. Saying foriegn player's can't make it at Leicester due to the current management favouring british player's completely ignores Smeichel unless we can lay claim to him now and have him playing for England
Christoph Posted 15 December 2011 Posted 15 December 2011 Well when people say foreign players, I assume they mean in difference of language and culture. Not sure Schmeichel as a foreign player is exactly the best term, other than he plays for different country, he still far more english than Yuki. Saying that, not sure this thread is needed as their is already one open. What I will say is Yuki has been given enough chances, and he's always done ok but i've never watched him play and been amazed by anythign he does. I do often see him getting the ball knicked off him far to easy for my liking and i've not really seen him do much passes that split open defences. I still think hes worth sticking around, its a long campaign and he's got enough quality worth keeping.
Lambert09 Posted 15 December 2011 Posted 15 December 2011 I heard Pearsons dog went missing when he arrived
blueharmie Posted 15 December 2011 Posted 15 December 2011 seriously does everybody just love this guy because he is japaneese?? sorry but the guy is average champ at best. Its great that hes come all this way but as we need a better midfield as it is, and he isnt even in the starting 11, he gotta go.
cc_star Posted 15 December 2011 Posted 15 December 2011 Not given a chance? Over 40 Appearances He's great at causing a nuisance of himself, but is easily knocked off the ball & when that's just in front of our defence (which doesn't need help in individual errors) it can prove costly. A defensive midfielder, particularly in the Championship needs to be strong not lightweight (think how tenacious players like Lennon were in that role), for me Fernandes from the players currently available would be a better pick in front of the defence, although he too has failed to dominate play

Darkon84 Posted 15 December 2011 Posted 15 December 2011 I like the guy (probably more so because he is our Japanese boy hehe), he is a good squad player and can play in a few positions to fill holes where needed, so is handy to have around. However, is everyone forgetting that there may be another side to all this.... Has Yuki managed to learn much English yet? If not, could that be affecting why he isnt always selected because of the lack of communication on the pitch? Perhaps it is still hindering him properly fitting in to the squad? Maybe, just maybe, he might want to go home?

Kitchandro Posted 15 December 2011 Posted 15 December 2011 I'd consider letting him go, he has had chances since he's been here and despite showing glimpses of quality he's not been consistent enough. I've always said that on his day he is a steady player but that that isn't enough, we need someone to make a difference in matches and Yuki isn't one of those players. He seems quite popular for some reason but I can't really remember him doing much of note. He seemed to be a holding midfielder at first but I'm convinced he's not that anymore, he's too lightweight and not aggressive enough. He's not a creative player either, nor does he score many goals. He's OK but we need better than OK.

It strikes me people have a soft spot for him because hes japanese, not cos hes any good
Guest Col city fan Posted 15 December 2011 Posted 15 December 2011 Why would Abe 'not be given a chance'? Why would his manager have not played Abe consistently if he felt with him in the team he would win football matches? I guess it must be because he doesn't rate him highly enough above the other midfielders. Thats the only plausible explanation I can think of?
Legend_in_blue Posted 15 December 2011 Posted 15 December 2011 You are not making a fair comparison putting Zagorakis with Abe since Zagorakis was a far superior player. The title of this thread should be "Yuki Abi like Arnar Gunlaugsson..." then I see your point.
ivarti Posted 15 December 2011 Author Posted 15 December 2011 The point is that Yuki Abe is a great player in the Japanese national team, Theo did the same for Greece. This shows again how far off many of you are in your comments. The key point to this is not about language or any other thing, it is about giving foreign imports a real chance to establish themselves, they seldom do. Savage compared to Theo or Yuki, please ................... For god sake, Yuki has done well in the World Cup, Theo captained Greece to a Euro Championship win, you must be totally lost, and this again shows that you really believe that Leicester City and England are from another galaxy, this is sad.
Topman Posted 16 December 2011 Posted 16 December 2011 I believe Abe is a better passer of the ball than Pearsons 2 favorite midfielder, his quick one touch passing is better than 4 touch wellans and invisible King! I remember he played well against Man city away as an attacking midfielder
Bettsj2 Posted 16 December 2011 Posted 16 December 2011 It was unfortunate that shortly after Theo left, Lennon also left. Theo would have been the perfect replacement

Abe is an Average player in an average Japanese side, he has made 40 appearances and done OK. But there has been nothing to suggest he is anything more than ok and average. Average international players are ten a penny, just because they pull on a shirt for their country doesn't instantly mean they are better than anyone else. If Richie Wellens wasn't English and from some tin pot footballing nation he'd probably have 50 international caps.
Saxondale Posted 16 December 2011 Posted 16 December 2011 He scored a lot of goals in the J-League. Would be interesting to know how those sides played him.
ivarti Posted 16 December 2011 Author Posted 16 December 2011 Facts are, Yuki has 40 caps for Japan, Theo played 120 times for Greece. Greece won the Euro Championship, Japan played some great football in South Africa, and Wellens has "nada" caps. So please stop this argument. Yuki Abe is a quality player, one that has not yet been given a proper chance. Theo is a legend, not at Leicester, but at other clubs. But again there is one point I totally agree on, why on earth import players from abroad, when you prefer home grown talent, and I support that. This shows that English football managers and owners don't really have the right view, when they start their imports and put them on the bench, have them in the squad to sell t-shirts and tv rights to foreigners or just simply forgets that there could be a language barrier. So again don't say a player is avarage, when not given a proper chance, or talk foreigners down, because there might the club or the manager that lacks understanding and judgement when they start signing foreign players.

I don't care how many caps he has, I don't care he's an international. Carlton Palmer was an international and won 18 caps, doesn't mean the bloke was great!!!! I judge him with my own eyes. How many games have you seen him play? He's played 44 games for us and i've seen the majority of those and he's been alright, but nothing that stood out as a great deal better than we have. 44 games is more than enough to form and opinion on someone.

Absolutely spot on. Furthermore for those who pass comment on Yuki getting knocked off the ball too easily, my three year old grandson could kick the shit out of Wellens, King, Gallagher and Dyer, and all at the same time. We have a powder pink midfield at the moment, but Yuki is better than all the rest.

Yuki Abe has 40 caps. Mikael Arteta has "nada." Hell, Kevin Nolan has no caps, either. I'd take either of those guys in my midfield before Abe. And while England is not in a "different galaxy," football in the Championship is played in a different style than it is in international play, the J-League, La Liga Primera, the Finnish Ykkönen, etc. I don't think anybody is doubting that Yuki Abe is a player of some quality, but only whether he's a good fit for the Championship and Pearson's strategy/tactics, and if he's worth the money. And as for why we should bring in foreign players but not use them, you should ask the club's owners because they were the ones that brought Abe in when they decided to play Football Manager to stir up a club that was struggling and stir up fan support in Asia.
Babylon Posted 16 December 2011 Posted 16 December 2011 but Yuki is better than all the rest. Based on?
