leicesterseddon Posted 25 December 2011 Posted 25 December 2011 Mad tekkers Unfortunately, it just underlines what a dreadful sport it is
Royston. Posted 26 December 2011 Posted 26 December 2011 OLD. Remember when Rico did that in Starship Troopers?
ajthefox Posted 27 December 2011 Posted 27 December 2011 Shit sport Mad tekkers Unfortunately, it just underlines what a dreadful sport it is WOW. Tedious sport.
Guest MattP Posted 28 December 2011 Posted 28 December 2011 The only people who say this is a shit sport really don't watch it. I watch virtually every sport going and I don't anything can match the intensity and excitement of the NFL when it gets into the post season. Even more arrogant coming from football fans when in reality 90% of what we watch is absolute dross.
FoxyPV Posted 28 December 2011 Posted 28 December 2011 That's a bit of a sweeping statement. I'll watch a bit of NFL if there's nothing else on but a live game is just tedious. Stop/ start every 10 seconds. I understand the tactical nature of it and there are some great athletes but it's just not for me.

Nick Posted 28 December 2011 Posted 28 December 2011 That's how I'd like to get through to a crowded bar on Christmas eve.
James18 Posted 28 December 2011 Posted 28 December 2011 I was watching this live and couldn't believe what I was seeing haha! Oh American football is amazing, If you watch and fully understand it, I highly doubt you'd say it was shit.
Fox in the North Posted 29 December 2011 Posted 29 December 2011 Play it as well and you'll understand how great and fun it is and believe me I've only just started playing it at uni this year
syston_fox Posted 29 December 2011 Posted 29 December 2011 Brilliant sport if you give it the time to understand the rules. Quite a few times this season I've been more looking forward to the Packers games on Sunday night than Leicester games on a saturday. Guarenteed excitement in the NFL.

This, but replace Packers with Falcons. Also just before this touchdown, Victor Cruz scored a 99 yard touchdown which was pretty impressive, only the 12th time in history it's been done.
Finnegan Posted 30 December 2011 Posted 30 December 2011 I understand American football and I've got a high tolerance for stop-start sports as a big fan of rugby union. But, I'm sorry, the NFL takes the biscuit when it comes to pauses and interruptions in play. I can enjoy a game if I'm forced to watch it and I generally watch the Super Bowl most years but that's about it. There's a reason it's never taken off world wide. Rugby's a far more dynamic game, in my opinion. Most of the plays are immensely dull in the NFL, you can watch an entire season of American football and see fewer exciting run returns than a game or two of union and rugby players do it without blockers! (That said, David Tyree's helmet catch is still one of the best things I've ever seen in sport.)

NFL plays are as intense as dynamic as anything in sport, just look at the power and speed of the guys playing it.
AmericanScott Posted 30 December 2011 Posted 30 December 2011 I don't enjoy watching NFL unless it's the Super Bowl or when the NY Giants are playing. I can understand where people are coming from about it being a stop start sport though and it does tend to get boring. If you try to watch it, you'll see it's more like a physical version of chess. Can be intriguing at times.

Maybe me being biast because I don't like rugby (League or Union), but one of the main reasons is because I find it boring. NFL is one of probably the most exciting sport there is. I can understand frustration with the stops and starts, but there always either cutting back to the studio for discussion about the game and showing highlights from around the league which I and I'm sure the majority of fans of American football can tolerate. Adverts are minimum, especially on Channel 4. I see this thread turning into an argument about which sport posses the most athletic/toughest players.

That's easy, boxing is the toughest sport on the planet. No other can take you into deeper waters. I've played both and I would say NFL is tougher than rugby, the hits are harder and the intensity of each play or phase is stronger. Although position makes a difference, obviously a number 8 in rugby will be in the wars more than a punter and a wide receiver or a quarterback would take far more punishment that a fly half.

I meant the typical Rugby vs American football argument, but your statement still stands I agree with pretty much everything you've said though. People immediately jump to the conclusion that because american football players use padding it makes them pansies. Totally not true. Tackling in rugby is skilled, whereas in the NFL it's not necessarily skilled, it's hit them as hard as it takes in anyway to knock them down.
Fox in the North Posted 7 January 2012 Posted 7 January 2012 You know you have pads on and you just go for it whereas with rugby it's definitely more technique. As for physical contact I've seen more ambulances in one American football game (me included) than 7 rugby games
