4 points off of playoffs......Noone else showing consistency either...reason for optimism?

Shoot me down if you want but whilst we are no world beaters and inconsistent as f*** I don't see as any other team in this league is any better at the moment.

Soton have hit a rough spell Boro had a rough spell a little while back and are now near top despite getting stuffed today...Hammers are faltering...Leeds looked down and out for a while until they scraped a win today....the Ram scums hit a low but are now biting back. The point i'm trying to make is that this league is so wide open it's untrue and i don't see as any team is really that much better than another....hey Brizzle Beat Soton on Friday and the trees won away 3-1 today to the Tractor boys !!! Noone can predict the results in this league which could work in our favour.

Yes we've played rubbish football (Championship football is very rarely pretty tbh) but i think we can make good of a bad situation.

Nigel is clearly checking out his fringe players and will be very busy over the next few weeks getting rid and bringing players in to strengthen which can only be a good thing.

My prediction for 2012 is that we slowly but surely creep up the table and fight to the death for a play off place....guaranteed on the way we will play football that is ALSO good to watch as well as football that is not pretty but gets wins anyway!?!?!

I am still disappointed with what drivel i've seen so far this season but am hoping that if we can get a little better and other teams (selling players) get a little worse....WHO knows maybe we can have a positive end to what has so far been a dismal season.

Oh and i challenge anyone who thinks any team in this league is better than any other.

Promotion is certainly possible but I genuinely don't think we are a top 6 team under achieving I just do not think we are good enough for the top 6 now we really lack talent and flair in midfield. If Pearson worked a couple of miracles in the transfer window I think we would have a small chance but I don't think it looks likely right now. I am looking to next season in hope of making a serious challenge for promotion

Before today Saints got 8 points from 7 games & West Ham only got 10... We got 7, so no matter how dire we have been we've not fallen away from the top 2, even though the middle of the table crunched up around us.

When NP took-over we were 12pts from 2nd & we're still 12pts from 2nd

So it's pretty far from all doom & gloom many would have you believe

It is a missed opportunity though as we could have made up ground on them & haven't, but it does leave us still in contention even though things have been bad

We need to get back to back wins, for the 1st time in months & months, if we do I think we'll be able to push on

Also, we will presumably be active in the transfer market & be in a position to push on through the whole of the second half of season

We played terribly Vs Ipswich and NP changed the formation to get a draw

We were poor for large parts of the Pompey game & again didn't get beat

And although, today's performance wasn't convincing we dug deep like we haven't been able to and there was signs that the resolve and never-say-die attitude is retaining

If we can add to that, the future will look a lot better than it has since the playoff defeat

This month is make or break, simple.

The gap isn't too big if we get the right players in, the squad as it is now won't be good enough however, no matter how anyone else is playing in the short term.

The transfer window is going to be difficult if any player wants to sign we are gonna have to pay inflated prices as they all know we have a bit of cash.

Funny how this topic pops up every time we win.

I wish I had the same outlook, but for now, I simply take each game as it comes.

You know, we might as well get relegated again. :D

Important result to stay in touch with the top 6.

Now, Nigel to make 3 or 4 quality additions in january whilst shipping out whatever rubbish he can and we might be onto something.

We are in the same position after 25 games this season as we were last, 4 points off a play off place, no reason why we cannot make it if we get a good run - and we are due one!

Look at how Reading and Burnley have climbed the table recently.

Please, please, please stay grounded people.

Don't get me wrong what you have posted is all true, all fact, but we won today great, it was just what we needed and i'm happy but it still doesn't excuse performances in our last 2 or 3, maybe even more games and to by the sounds of things we weren't amazing even today, results count, not performance and we got a good result today, but please can people stay grounded.

We made changes today and they worked, will things carry on as today? We'll have to wait and see? Will players in previous games come back, and perform like they should? We will see.

Some of the players in this team are not good enough though, I said it before todays game, and todays win won't change my opinion, unless we get some consistant performance and results.

Other teams inconsistancy is no excuse for our inconsistancy.

We won today and i'll take nothing away from the players today but keep grounded, and take it game by game, let's not get ahead of ourselves though.

No disrespect to the OP but this drives me mad.

People started talking seriously about getting dragged into a relegation battle after Doncaster and now we're talking about play-offs.

When this one win turns into a winning run, I'll start to get excited. Similarly, if one defeat turns into a long winless spell I'll start sweating.

We need to hit a run in these next 5 games to get up in to the play-offs spots. We got three great points today so lets hope this is our turning point it's been a long time coming it cant be far away.

With how very average we have been this season it's amazing really that we are still where we are in the table.

Today was a good win but I've learnt to take success or failure with a pinch of salt.

What I do want to mention is what I said pre match.. I'm very happy that Nige has had the balls to shake the whole fookin lot up again.

What he should now try to do is to stick with the newbies and give them the confidence to push on.

As for these people saying the 'old guard' should never play again are you really that fookin daft?

We have a SQUAD of players some of whom will feature more than others. All it takes is a couple of injuries to reintroduce players that have been out for the past few weeks.

Unless sold, the likes of Wellens will feature again when needed. The point is I trust that Pearson is knowing what he's done in terms of selection.

Good win yes, cause for optimism? No, not really.. Let's see what the next few games bring..

Totally agree! To me Forest game is irrelevant and to be honest i wont care if we get beat! personally a cup run is the last thing we need as we havent got the rightbalance and players for it!! 2 key games are Middlesborough and Southampton to see whether this squad is actually good enough to challenge for promotion ! If we can get 4 points out of those two games that would be pretty good! Barsnley game is a must win even though they are dangerous ! MASSIVE 3 matches coming up and MASSIVE TEST for this squad and Pearson

spot on! clubs are going to reject until we put in a higher bid because they know we are the team with the £

As always "if we get a run going we can get into the play offs" - its the same old story. Dont worry we will most likely lose our next game and play offs/promotion will be off the cards again

I am surprised that we haven't lost any ground on the top 2, not that we stand any chance of finishing in the top 2, but I am not that surprised, the championship always has been, and hopefully always will be an exciting unpredictable league where, rightly or wrongly, fight, desire and passion can often win out over skill, as Sven found out to his cost last year.

This month is incredibly important, we are not playing well at the moment, but we are still hard to beat, we were the better side against Hull until we went down to 10 men and still were the better side for large parts, Donny was just a 10 minute spell and we were very unlucky to lose and a poor start against Ipswich and then had to break down the bus parked in front of their goal. Despite all the doom and gloom with a bit more luck we could have had 10 more points from the last 5 games. We are not out of the play off race, nor are we the laughing stock of the division, we are a good side that is a couple of signings and a bit of belief away from challenging the top 6.

Maybe if the fans had more belief then the players would too.

i prefer us to have our "good run" in April/May and get in the top 6 at the death, in -form with new balanced team, other teams eg (Hull/Reading have had their peak form run), its wide open still,ie the 4 teams in play off places now will not stay there imo

Posted

The time to hit a consistent good form run is April/May, with new more balanced team, other teams eg Reading/Burnley/Hull have had their run too early, getting into the playoffs in good form is important ie like Blackpool did and Trees didnt a couple of seasons ago, i doubt the 4 teams in the position now will not be the 4 at the end.

Posted

This has been the case for the past 3 or 4 years now. If you are consistent. You will make the top 6. There are far too many sides that can beat each other and the standard isnt great. So if you are capable of finding form you will do it. Look how many chances we had to make the top 6 last year after defeats? crazy

Posted

I really believe if we can just some how manage back to back wins we will be on the way to the PO's. Everyone knows we have a good squad, just meed to string a few results together and the confidence will be soaring.

And for the record I still think we will make the PO's.

This . . . . .although with more optimism
