From OS.. Jordan Stewart has today left Leicester City to join Watford.The 23-year-old has made the move to the Hornets for a fee that could rise to £125,000. Stewart, who has been employed in a variety of positions since joining the Foxes from Aston Villa in his youth, made 127 appearances for City during his six-year stint at the club. The former England under-21 international has signed a three-year contract at Vicarage Road and will already be looking forward to facing his now former side at his new home in October. Speaking from the club's Loughborough University based training camp, City boss Craig Levein revealed that it was certainly a busy time on the transfer front. He said: "There are a lot of things happening behind the scenes at the moment with regard to players coming in and players going out. "I would imagine that this time next week things will have settled down a bit. I think by then we would have had two or three out and two or three in. "We are getting there. We have got a couple of lads on trial at the moment who we are keen on having a look at. "We have also got two possibilities at centre-back and hopefully they will both work out in our favour. I am about 75 per cent confident on both of them, although I have been involved in football for long enough to know that anything can happen. "I am still looking. The fact that Jordan has left means that the left back position becomes another priority. I had hoped to sign Mo Camara but he chose to go to Celtic. He would have been a good player for us. Ricey Posted 1 July 2005 Posted 1 July 2005 I'm neutral on this one, I never trusted him playing at left back and going forward he was awful MOST of the time. He has had years to prove us all wrong but he has failed too. However he was a young player who at times could be fantastic so there is a tinge of sadness to see him go, 125k doesn't suprise me nowdays. The reason everyone has varied reactions to this is due to his inconsistency.

Before he signed his new contract he was poor, during the lead up to his new contract he was good and well when he signed excellent, this was during the period he played as well as Ive seen him. Well last term his crossing was at worse pathetic, some elementry school boy errors I witnessed. Yes he not bad at dribbling and has excellent pace but give me maybury any day. Use the money wisely CL!

The great shame with Stewart is that he had all the attributes going for him to really make it in the game. He was big, quick, strong, etc. The only thing he lacked was a brain. Selling him has now given Sheehan a great opportunity to stake a place and "come good". I think Levein is hoping to bring in an additional defender who can play both left-back and centre-back, thus we will have cover for that position. It is clear that out of a choice between Stewart or Sheehan, Levein made his decision. As for the fee of £125,000, Stewart is only worth what someone is prepared to pay. Better to get £125,000 for him than have a reserve team player on thousands of pounds a week adding to the wage bill.

I agree with people who say Stewart was an arrogant t**t, who was shockingly inconsistent and couldn't be relied upon to save his life. However, he was quite good defensively towards the end of last season and didn't look too bad. He would certainly have made a decent squad player imo and 125k is peanuts to be honest. It's also baffling considering that we have kept Jason Wilcox (utter garbage), when it would have made more sense to let Wilcox go. Watford have got a good bargain I reckon, he's young, still has time to improve, and has pace. I really hope Levein knows what he's doing on the transfer front because so far we have let go so many players and only brought 4 new faces in. It's a bit risky letting all these players go without replacements in place - I just hope whoever Levein brings in does a good job otherwise he is digging himself into a hole slightly.
Scow Posted 1 July 2005 Posted 1 July 2005 I'm not bothered really. He did start to improve defensively, but his lack of composure and technical ability didn't help. He was capable of putting in some decent performances, but his stinking attitude and lack of appetite is part of his make up that won't change quickly. He did have plenty of pace, but we need much more than that. As Breadandcheese said, he has no footballing brain, and often conceded the ball in promising positions, which left us exposed. Good luck to him, but I can't see him improving much as a player.
