lcfc matt Posted 23 January 2012 Posted 23 January 2012 Don't know if anybody has noticed or if it's just me ,but does anybody think that these two look good together.i never noticed at the start but they seem to be clicking quite nicely the are feeding each other and just generally looking sharper together.I do think we have to class strikers and I hope there partnership blossoms and they drive us up the table to the playoffs.
Jimmy Posted 23 January 2012 Posted 23 January 2012 Think they'll start getting goals regurally now, seem to be developing an understanding finally
simtacular Posted 23 January 2012 Posted 23 January 2012 Yeah the understanding looks to be there now. Nice little intricate passes and flick ons to each other. Promising!
mrmagoomc4 Posted 23 January 2012 Posted 23 January 2012 they looked good in parts , nugent has more energy and drive, beckford is more laid back with bursts of speed etc, i still think a nugent/vassel partnership would work far better as both are good at defending from the front, both will run there hearts out, they can also score goals , i just still have doubts about beckford.

whoareyaaa Posted 23 January 2012 Posted 23 January 2012 Looking good.. keep them together and they will score.
Captain... Posted 23 January 2012 Posted 23 January 2012 Still not convinced they are a partnership, rather than 2 good players. There was one incident today with Danns bursting in to the box, and both Nugent and Beckford hung back rather than one attacking the goal and the other waiting for the pull back. I still don't see them passing too each other too much. Off the ball they were very hard working today, but I still see them as very similar players making similar runs when we have the ball and are therefore easier to pick up.

paddy Agyemang Posted 23 January 2012 Posted 23 January 2012 Love the partnership but NP was right to bring JB off as we needed something fresh up top but all round performance 8 or 9 out of 10
PegguyArphexad Posted 23 January 2012 Posted 23 January 2012 I thought Beckford worked incredibly hard today. Never seen him work so hard. Fair play to the bloke.
teblin Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 If these 2 are playing well(which they are at the mo) there are not many centre backs in this league that would fancy taking them on!
burni Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 If these 2 are playing well(which they are at the mo) there are not many centre backs in this league that would fancy taking them on! Quite right, now they are both working hard defenders know they cant make a single mistake. Nugent showed yesterday give him some space and he will be dangerous, he has been very consistant this season with beckford now starting to look more of a threat. If they are both scoring i can see us finishing nearer to the playoffs as we have a decent defence. Score and dont concede and you will win
Guest Col city fan Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 Said this weeks ago.. As did others Football is about developing partnerships on the pitch. This seems to be improving.... Mills and SSL look to be developing an understanding of each others position Wellens and Danns look to be complimenting each other And now, finally, Nuge and Becks look to be playing upfront together The space between the two strikers has now narrowed down to such a level that they can play off each other and can create chances for each other. This wasn't happening when they were miles apart on the pitch Long may this continue.....
Corky Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 There seems to be more of an understanding now. Good to see.
Captain... Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 I honestly can't think of Nugent playing in Beckford or vice versa last night, I am probably wrong, but I really can't think of one creating a chance for the other. Feel free to prove me wrong my memory is shocking these days. They are 2 strikers of proven quality, but I don't see them feeding off each other like good partnerships do, Howard and Fryatt, clearly inferior players but arguably a better partnership as they complemented each other they would occupy different space and play in different ways.
Bloomer Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 I thought Nugent & Beckford made the Soton defence look and feel very uncomfortable, they looked fragile every time they were pressed.

I remember at least one, where Beckford flicked it on for Nugent. I think there was a few others, but can't remember off the top of my head.

Can think of one straightaway... Bout half way through the second half... Lovely little cushioned header into Nuges path, first time shot and keeper made the save. Great link up play between the two of em.
Corky Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 And in the Forest match last week Nugent flicked on for Beckford to score his second. It's certanly looking better than it did a few weeks ago.

Ok so that is 2 in 2 games, both with the head, so they didn't have it at their feet and under control. My point is I don't see them looking up and looking for each other, playing each other in behind the defence, or laying it off across the goal. They are both selfish strikers, get the ball and think how can I score from this situation, this is not a criticism, just an observation, and maybe a wrong one, but this is what I see when they play together.
Leicfox Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 Both on the score sheet tonight which is pleasing. Beckford looked a class above though. Surprising what a bit of confidence can do. I hope he keeps it up.
