A decent nightlife and plenty of things to do. Also needs to be dirt cheap. Any ideas? They have Boris bikes out there now too so you can just get on them cycle around and see all the crazy statues they build then burn, accomodation might be a problem, but seriously look into it. Cheapest way to get there is ema to alicante and get the train up or Stansted to Valencia, Edit: Sorry one more video, this statue is about 10 storeys high and they burnt the ****erm it cost over 1 million euros and they burnt it:

You're limited as with a short break you don't wamt more than a 2hr30 flight. Problem is you can only really go in the eurozone so its not gonna be really dirt cheap either. So yea Mainland Spain or the Balearics are your best bet

I guess its a case of waiting a couple of years as they develop slightly more. Theyre cheap as hell but lack atmosphere and someone described it to me as 'HTC compared to the Iphone', not yet the real McCoy but has potential. I suppose its also like Sharm el Sheikh was 5 years ago compared to now

You got city stuff and then you got Lake Balaton an hour down the road were you can camp and swim and shit. Did it as a few day holiday back at Uni in between end of exams and our Sports Fed Ball. Pretty cheap then. Heading back for a few days this year to pass one of the billion bank holidays and got flights for £90 with all taxes and charges

Dubrovnik is wonderful but tranquil and may not float your boat if excessive nightlife is your thing. Split may be a better option if so as it offers both depending on where you base yourself.

I assume your source of information about Croatia spends his time puking in the streets of Magaluf while exchanging STD's with some Northern slag. Get to Croatia while you can because no doubt it won't be long before the Brits ruin it. It has a stunning coastline, lots of island hopping opportunities, a friendly vibe and some top notch festivals. And it's cheap.

I can back up both of these Dubrovnik is great with good weather, good night life (if you want that), generally pretty city and some great little one day escapes. Budapest is incredible the food there is amazing and the nightlife is intresting but fun. Ended up going to an abanded shoping centre that was now a night club with a roof top bar. The river cruise and views from the pest side are second to none. Oh and libetine dream both of these venues have some amazing night light some of the best bars and massive nightclubs i've been too.

Ozwin Posted 21 March 2012 Author Posted 21 March 2012 Yeah that's what I said but apparently 'it's all goats and cows roaming the streets' and got brushed off pretty quickly. From the pictures I think it looks great and it's a touristy place but not in a Ibiza/Magaluf kind of way.

The Year Of The Fox Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 costa del sol resorts are all pretty good ( maybe avoid torremolinos ) fuengirola , benalmedina, torrox didn't seem at all laddish , puerto banus and marbella are quite classy I went to Benelmadena the day after we beat derby 4 0 in october (made my holiday) stopped somewhere called the Holiday Palace. Cost 400 each all inclusive with Direct Holidays. The Holiday Palace is part of the Holiday Village group. But the other hotels in that group were all self catering. Cost an absolute fortune compared to all inclusive. It was a predominantly Spanish hotel which was fine by me as i enjoy speaking their language, but my point being in a big a hotel as that there were perhaps about 10 Brits there. Worth a look at definitely.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 Can't argue with that assessment of Valencia, it can be difficult to find out what is going on, there are tourist info centres but it depends if you want a beach holiday or not, and how long you are going for, Valencia is more cultural than just going to the beach, the night life is top, again if you know where to go, the open air clubs are great in the Summer, it is also very easy to get to, 20 minutes on the metro from the airport means you don't get stung by nasty fees, and the metro and tram make it easy to get around and visit the villages. If you have ever fancied running in the street with a bull you can, it's not like the famous one in Pamplona, they just board up the streets and let a bull out, it is very bizarre. I wouldn't worry about Bennicassim, it is about 100km north of Valencia so you will only really notice it around the train station as they all come pouring back. If you time it right you can get a day ticket, go up for one day, go to the water park get mashed and then get the first train back in the morning, or just chill out on the rocks behind the festival and watch the main stage. You could go in August and catch Tomatina: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomatina if you like tomatoes In July they have fireworks on the beach at the weekend, and Valencians know their fireworks, they are fvcking loud. They also have the grand prix in June, I think I miss Valencia, moved to a different part of Spain last year, I have not even mentioned Las Fallas, (19 day festival of all things loud fiery and explosive) it really is a fantastic City, it used to have a river, but it kept on flooding so they re-routed it away from Valencia dried out the river and turned into 12 kilometers of park land, football pitches, museums, concert halls, great place for a stroll. Have you ever heard of or been to a place called Tavernes? In 2001 I went there with my Spanish mate and his family. They'd bought a villa out there after predicting it was going to be a new benidorm. From what I saw the place consisted of about twenty shacks made of the corrugated shaped roof things you see over here, a dusty track and a pond.

There's too much choice and too many reviews, it'll take me years at this rate! I don't know if all inclusive is the way to go or not, or if we should buy our own food? What's your experiences people? So far I've noted down a place in Algarve (Alvor) that's £600pp all inclusive for a week and a place in Gran Canaria (Puerto Rico) that's about £600pp too. I've picked these mainly on the reviews I've seen but I have no idea if there's enough to do for a week or what, it's a bit overwealming

I've picked these mainly on the reviews I've seen but I have no idea if there's enough to do for a week or what, it's a bit overwealming You could be self catering or all inclusive at the place I mentioned in benelmadena (costa del sol) There was on English couple who paid for a meal which set them back 48 euro. Their drinks were 10euro a round. We ended up getting their drinks after that! Another family I know went the same place after we did. They spent about 2k self catering, compared to our 1k. Deffo do all inc. Yes you drink for the sake of it, but its well worth it.

Like I said before anywhere with a nice beach to chill on when we have nothing planned and somewhere with a fair whack to see and do will be fine. If there's a few clubs then that'd be cool too. I think I'm being a bit picky, I bet they're all pretty much the same anyway!

If you're fairly central there should be a bit more.
