Vassell back in training

............Nugent.... Beckford............

This is true and he's a good player for filling in. He's worth another contract to see what he's worth. Better than howard

Everyone seems to remember Vassell as being better than he actually was.

Remember his scoring rate? Remember how he'd run past a player then stop or turn back and never make anything of the oppurtunity?

With Beckford and Nugent clicking together now and with goals to show for it, there's no way I'd replace either of them with Vassell unless forced to i.e. injury or suspension.

And even then, I'd be more than happy to give bring Schlupp in before him. Or even Hopper. I know Schlupp is back in training,. but not sure who is closer to match fitness, he or Vassell?

This.

Vassell has had many chances and for me has never been any more than average. His goal scoring record is poor and as a winger he's even worse than Dyer most of the time.

Schlupp has looked very promising and Nugent and Beckford are rightly first choice at the moment.

He's a terrible winger.

I have no idea what he's done to show people he's any good there.

Pearson is well known for having a target man so if Howard was to leave Pearson would look for a new target man. that would then leave us with:

Beckford,Nugent,Schlupp,Waghorn,Vassell,New target man and hopper.

The point I'm trying to make is that Pearson will send hopper on loan, therefore he will have to sell 1 of Schlupp,Waghorn or Vassell, personally I would prefer to keep Vassell and Schlupp but once thinking about it I deiceded it would be better for Waghorn to stay instead purely because of his age and potential!

Therefore I think Vassell would not be offered a new contract, unless Pearson uses him as a winger and gets rid of gallagher which I'm all up for!!

Glad he's on his way back. Will be good to have another option.

If Nugent or Beckford get any injuries or suspensions, we'll be struggling up front at the moment.

Vassell has an excellent turn of speed and knows where the goal is. I think the manager will respect him because like Dyer he is totally committed. His experience will see him back in and around the team. Before Sven lost his job and bought Beckford he looked really good down the middle. Not suggesting he replace anyone just that he is well worth getting back.

This is exactly right. People keep saying "direct player, knows where the goal is" etc. He's scored 6 goals in something like 45 games for us. Also he's a terrible winger so (not exactly his fault as this is not his position). I don't mind him as he works very hard up top but people seeing him as a savour need to open their eyes.

He played mostly on the wing and although he holds the ball up and is an outlet for it he doesn't really get the chance to score. How many players did Sven play on the wing who needed playing down the middle. How many goals did they score ?

The thing is even if was quite quick before (which I don't remember myself) he has just come back from a serious injury and at his age in his professional career whose to say he will come back as quick, unlikely.

He did have one outstanding game this season, against Brighton I think, where they couldn't handle him.

But like most players it was all-too-infrequent.

Take a look at Vassell's goal scoring record over the past few seasons before suggesting he has a part to play.

The squad needs another goalscorer IMO.

Relying on one player to get all the goals is risky.

And I expect Nige to address this in the summer.

If we stay in the Championship (and let's face it, it's more likely than not) I'd give him another season at least with us, but maybe not what we need if we go up.

No chance for me, need to look to the future now. Does anybody know how long Vassell has left on his contract?

expires in the summer doesn't it
