Danny Drinkwater has given Leicester City a fitness boost ahead of tomorrow's clash with East Midlands rivals Derby County.

The former Manchester United midfielder has recovered from a foot injury which kept him out of last Saturday's FA Cup victory against Norwich.

City assistant manager Craig Shakespeare admitted they had feared the 21-year-old would be absent for some time.

Drinkwater injured his foot at Watford last week and, although X-rays revealed there was no break, he could not put any weight on it.

His return is welcomed by Shakespeare, who said: "It is a massive boost for him most of all, not only us and the fans, because he has impressed everyone with his all-round ability since he arrived.

"It seemed an innocuous challenge and we didn't think anything of it at the time, so it was strange to see him on crutches.

"Since he had the scan and it came back clear, it was a worry that he couldn't put any weight on it.

"It was really pleasing to have him back in full training yesterday and to see him flying around. It was one where you might have to hold him back a bit.

"We hope there are no ill-effects for the Derby game and he will be part of the squad."

Vassell will be a real plus especially if he can be fit enough for the next round of the cup. He will strengthen the squad. So pleased about Drinkwater recovery. Welcome back Sol Bamba.

Sounds like it was just heavy bruising as someone else mentioned. It's a big plus and one that gives Pearson the sort of problem they'd rather have of more choice than less.

Drinkwater looks a busy and capable all-round footballer, although he does need to cut down on his errors. But he's not the only one in our squad who's prone to costly or potentially costly errors and it seems that Pearson's big problem is establishing that extra consistency and reliability out of a squad of reasonably capable players.

What he seems to have managed so far is to get more football out of more people and that should should be building team spirit.

Whether that gives us any realistic hope for this season I doubt - as ever we really needed a sprint start to the season and didn't get one - but I do think it augers well for next season if we can keep a good part of the squad together. And Drinkwater looks as if he could be a key part of that squad.

Pleasantly surprising news, I expected him to be out for the season.

I would leave him on the bench just because we performed so well at Norwich, but I don't expect a similar performance.

Great news,.....I'd put him back in,...great result against Norwich doesnt mean it was a good performance. DD gives us more control on the ball,.better than Danns in the middle IMO,....3pts required perlease...
