ozleicester Posted 1 March 2012 Posted 1 March 2012 Sorry....Not a great pic (but the government prevent getting too close). Probably most of the world isnt aware of Australia's barbaric treatment of Refugees (particularly children), who having committed no crime other than escaping their war and or famine ravaged home countries, are locked in "Detention centres" (Prisons) and left for months, even years The head of the Australian Medical Association (AMA) in the Northern Territory says children under 10 years old are trying to harm themselves in Darwin's immigration detention centre. This week, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay criticised the Federal Government's mandatory detention of asylum seekers, saying it has led to suicides, self-harm and trauma. AMA NT president Dr Paul Bauert says the Government is hurting future Australian citizens by detaining them indefinitely. "This is Australia, we shouldn't be having children like this in Australia," he said. "We're having some terrible cases that we're needing to treat in Darwin of children as young as four and five being part of hunger strikes. We're having children under the age of 10 self-harming, attempted suicides." Ahhh the lucky country
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 1 March 2012 Posted 1 March 2012 I could see the fires about 50 km away, from my bedroom window. That's how close to home it was. Scary day. The smoke for days was shocking you couldn't breathe for a week
Zingari Posted 1 March 2012 Posted 1 March 2012 That picture should appear in every dictionary alongside the definition of poignancy .
MikeyT Posted 1 March 2012 Posted 1 March 2012 Where's that picture of Smuts at Stoke..? On a more serious note; Always gets me. To be driven to do such a thing to yourself is just beyond comprehension. There's a documentary about this called "The Falling Man". Seen it a couple of times now. Still hard to watch.
Zingari Posted 1 March 2012 Posted 1 March 2012 What’s happening to me ? I keep getting an irresistible urge to put Angelina Jolie’s right leg in every picture
purpleronnie Posted 1 March 2012 Posted 1 March 2012 I reckon the lad on the right has just had a little trump.
Haydos Posted 1 March 2012 Posted 1 March 2012 My football upbringing was all about Italia '90. I was born in 1989 but I watched the Italia '90 video countless times. This frame is so memorable, poignant sums it up perfectly.
purpleronnie Posted 1 March 2012 Posted 1 March 2012 Austrian Crown Prince Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie on June 28 1914. They were assassinated five minutes later. Leading to WW1 and the death of many millions. The numbers that died duing ww1 are beyond comprehension, an estimated 15 million dead....15 million!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love the way her dress billows out and nearly covers the car. Women knew how to dress in those days.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 1 March 2012 Posted 1 March 2012 The numbers that died duing ww1 are beyond comprehension, an estimated 15 million dead....15 million!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And barely two decades later, it was all taken up another level again. It's hard to imagine a war on that scale happening between 1984 and 1988 and then being 3 years into an even bigger one now. I'd be proper fed up of it all by now, I reckon
stripeyfox Posted 1 March 2012 Posted 1 March 2012 That picture should appear in every dictionary alongside the definition of poignancy . It is hard to argue with this....

Bellend Sebastian Posted 1 March 2012 Posted 1 March 2012 John F Kennedy Jnr saluting his father's coffin at his funeral on 25th November 1963 It's a bit disrespectful to not wear trousers when they're burying your own father
Webbo Posted 1 March 2012 Posted 1 March 2012 It's a bit disrespectful to not wear trousers when they're burying your own father I was a little kid in the 60s, that wasn't unusual. My mother has photos of me at a similar age wearing woolly tights.
Narborough_fox Posted 10 March 2012 Posted 10 March 2012 It may not be a trajedy but this is such a beautiful picture. Doesn't really need words.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 10 March 2012 Posted 10 March 2012 Anyone able to put that pic up from Hillsborough? The one where the photographer is pitchside of the fence, and all you can see are fans' faces squashed up against the fence? Truly horrifying
HEGGSY Posted 10 March 2012 Posted 10 March 2012 It may not be a trajedy but this is such a beautiful picture. Doesn't really need words. Brilliant.

The Year Of The Fox Posted 10 March 2012 Posted 10 March 2012 No that's worse. The one I was on about was in colour
purpleronnie Posted 10 March 2012 Posted 10 March 2012 You mean this one? Horrific. the lad on the far left seems to be absolutely fine whilst people right next to him may of not survived. So sad.
