Happy Fox Posted 19 March 2012 Posted 19 March 2012 http://www.ketteringtownfc.co.uk/story.php?story_id=987 We are now able to confirm that Leicester City will be sending a team to play at Nene Park on Wednesday 28th March in a fund raising friendly organised by the Kettering Town (Poppies) Supporters Trust. We are grateful to the Director of Football at Leicester,Andrew Neville, for agreeing to this fixture- just 24 hours after the Foxes play in the Championship. A strong side is promised for the game which kicks off at 7.45pm. The Trust will be collecting any donations prior to supporters entering the turnstiles with Strikers Bar being open and the usual catering facilities available in the ground. We hope to see many supporters fromboth teams at the game to cheer on their teams and to raise a sizeable sum towards payment of the Club's outstanding payment to HMRC - which is due later that week.
acooling08 Posted 19 March 2012 Posted 19 March 2012 It's good Kettering will benefit but I don't think playing a friendly mid season is a good idea, especially straight after a league game.
gazfox9 Posted 19 March 2012 Posted 19 March 2012 It's good Kettering will benefit but I don't think playing a friendly mid season is a good idea, especially straight after a league game. Pretty sure it'll be reserves and youth players. I'd be amazed if any player involved in league action will travel.
m00nie Posted 19 March 2012 Posted 19 March 2012 might be for a good cause but £18 for a friendly with as suggested reserve and youth.. fk that..
Craig Posted 19 March 2012 Posted 19 March 2012 I'd be very surprised if it's £18. Usually around £10 for friendlies.
Tielemans63 Posted 19 March 2012 Posted 19 March 2012 Kettering are my second team and my local side so please, please, please come and give us some money! One of the oldest sides in England and a great history in non-league. The club are struggling financially but not really through mismanagement - more because of Kettering Borough Council who have given the club no help whatsoever in it's search for a spot for a new ground and who have allowed the club to die. Cheers!

jonlcfc1990 Posted 19 March 2012 Posted 19 March 2012 Went to the friendly before the season started very old classic ground an if we filled it there would be a proper vintage atmosphere would be well worth going. Get on down!

Out Foxed Posted 19 March 2012 Posted 19 March 2012 The prices are on the Kettering site. It is £18 that's pretty mad. didn't mind paying a tenner for pre season. 18 will turn a lot of people off.
Tielemans63 Posted 19 March 2012 Posted 19 March 2012 I disagree, I think it's absolutely due to mismanagement. But yeah, I'd hate to see my local club fold. I think it was partly down to Ladak but his hands were tied by an inability to find a spot for a new ground and KBC refused planning permission on a couple of viable sites. Probably the biggest culprit is the Pickering family who own the Rockingham Road site - they said that when KTFC's 10 year lease expires in 2013 they wanted £60k a year in rent - that's almost double what the club are paying now and is completely unsustainable, hence the club's only real choice was take on the lease at Nene Park. The Pickerings will sell Rocky Road to housing developers (much more profitable than letting to KTFC!) you watch! That's where the council could and should have helped but didn't. Imran Ladak was a twat though, I'll give you that although he did do some good things until he lost interest.

Get on down! It'll be at Nene Park mate, which is anything but vintage! The friendly was at Rockingham Road, the club's old ground and spiritual home.
1964FOX Posted 19 March 2012 Posted 19 March 2012 Surely the prices shown on the web page are for league games ad this will be less to draw the crowd in.
wattolcfc Posted 19 March 2012 Posted 19 March 2012 I think i'll be going! Great cause, glad to see us doing our bit.
Craig Posted 19 March 2012 Posted 19 March 2012 The Cov friendly was entry by donation to the supporters trust, not sure if this will be the same or not.
Bluearmyfox28 Posted 19 March 2012 Posted 19 March 2012 Does anyone know when Leicester will confirm this?

He pissed off everyone he came into contact with. Why should the Pickerings continued giving the club low rent when the bloke in charge had pissed them off - I don't blame them one bit. And, even at £60K, it was still cheaper than Nene Park which is totally unsustainable on football alone. The council would have been more flexible had Ladak not pissed them off too...and it was Ladak and Ladak alone who pushed for NP. Ladak knew the sums didn't work but still went for it because he was an imbecile. How anyone can still be an apologist for him is beyond me. There will be no KTFC within 6 months, Nene Park will never work.

There will be no KTFC within 6 months, Nene Park will never work. I'm not an apologist for him, just think there's more to it than just him simply pissing people off. I agree that he has been a twat - I said so in my post. However, I think that KBC decision not to support the football club's plans to relocate was a bad move for the club and the town - regardless of who's in charge of the football club they should have done the right thing for the supporters (IMO). I also think the Pickering's decision to double the rent was crippling but as you say, to make money is their perogative and it's not up to them to leave a legacy to the town if they don't want to - I believe they should have done but that's easy for me to say. You're right to say that Ladak's manner hasn't helped - they had been at Rockingham Road for a good long time with no problems, I hadn't thought about like that TBH. I also agree that Nene Park is unsustainable - but what was the alternative (genuinely I don't know, you might)? The problem is that Ladak didn't have the nous to make money from the facilities at Nene Park - hopefully George Rolls has although I think you're right when you predict that KTFC will be gone sooner rather than later. I think you think I am absolving him of blame - I'm absolutely not. I just think there's more to the current plight than just Ladak being a bit of an annoying cnut - you may disagree.
