sphericalfox Posted 29 March 2012 Posted 29 March 2012 This is where tastes differ. I don't think that clip is funny at all. In fact, it's very flat. Representative of the entire movie. Never been a fan of Ferrell or his humour, it seems very far-fetched and desperate to me. He also tries to copy previous, classic comedians too obviously. Now, Chevy Chase is an entirely different calilbre: If you aren't a fan of Ferrell, and have never seen his Bush stand-up, you might change your mind on him
Carl the Llama Posted 29 March 2012 Posted 29 March 2012 This, I went to see Anchorman with free tickets and low expectations only to see one of the best comedies of this, admittedly young, century. Never seen Ferrell be particularly funny in anything else, or Steve Carrell for that matter.
CKB Posted 30 March 2012 Posted 30 March 2012 As a big Anchorman fan i was once crying out for a sequel but as the years went on i thought it was best to not touch it again in fear of it being ruined.. I'm hopeful it won't be but i'm not as wanting of a sequel as i once was
Captain... Posted 30 March 2012 Posted 30 March 2012 First wasn't that great in my opinion but a sequel will make them a truck load of money. I never thought Anchorman was that great. My thoughts exactly. One of the most overrated films in history. Everyone tells me it's hilarious. It really isn't very funny at all. It depends on how and when you watched it, I watched it with some friends not knowing anything about it and thought it was brilliant, but if someone had told me it was the funniest film ever and everyone was banging on about it, then I would probably be disappointed, the same with Napoleon Dynamite, with no expectations of the film it delivers as a great film, but I don't think it stands up to the hype, and neither does Anchorman, but in the right mood at the right time it is fantastic, it also inspired really weird dreams after the first time I watched it, vivid dreams of aliens and lizards all inter connected with me and the cast in a kitsch 70s style, so vivid that the day after I really was struggling to remember which bits were from Anchorman and which bits were my dream. They may be very explainable reasons for this though.
21st Century Fox Posted 30 March 2012 Author Posted 30 March 2012 On a side not about sequels... There's a sequel to Twins in the works called Triplets, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Danny DeVito and errrrrr Eddie Murphy. Also they've let f**king Brett Ratner (Rush Hour, X-Men 3, Tower Heist) direct the sequel to Midnight Run with Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin.
Guest MattP Posted 30 March 2012 Posted 30 March 2012 Quite pleased at this, some real laugh out loud moments in the first one. Met Will Ferrell in Vegas in 08' and had a chat for 5 minutes, nice guy.

That almost caused an unexpected coffee monitor interface, the idea is comedy genius, I am sure the execution won't be.
21st Century Fox Posted 30 March 2012 Author Posted 30 March 2012 If there's anyone who still hasn't seen Anchorman its on BBC3 on Saturday at 9pm.
adam1 Posted 30 March 2012 Posted 30 March 2012 Comedy sequels never work. Its a law which sits alongside the fundamentals of physics. Gravity pulls you to the Earth. Comedy sequels do not work. Please name a good comedy sequel.

Obviously it's all a matter of opinion but: Bad Boys 2 Back to the Future part 2 Clerks II Next Friday Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me That's 5 that I can think of.
Captain... Posted 30 March 2012 Posted 30 March 2012 Obviously it's all a matter of opinion but: Bad Boys 2 Back to the Future part 2 Clerks II Next Friday Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me That's 5 that I can think of. Bad Boys and BTTF are not exactly comedies, I've not seen Next Friday, Or Clerks II, but I heard it wasn't as good as Clerks. The Spy who Shagged Me though fits, depends on criteria, does it have to be better than the original or just good in its own right? Naked Gun 2 and 1/2 to a lesser extent 33 and 1/3 Hot Shots part deux Scary Movie 2 Not necessarily better than the originals but valid comedies, very few films have sequels better than the orignal regardless of genre, but that is just a fact of cinema Police Academy 2 (was as good as one, whether you deem that as good or not is up to you) More in the vain of funny action movies, Ghostbusters II, Gremlins II, Beverley Hills cop II Like I said there are only a handful of sequels that are better then the original, so it is harsh just to single out comedy as weak genre in that respect. The fact is that most comedies don't make sequels because part of the humour is the surprise, and it is never as funny second time round, you either have to re-write the format, or it does become old very quick, take the Carry On series, changing the setting made it fresher each time even though the jokes were tired and cliched, or Kevin Smith's Jay and Silent Bob films, not sequels but all having a running theme and could have used all the same characters each time, but didn't and so kept it fresh.

The Austin Powes series are a good example of sequels not working or being as good as the original. Yes The Spy Who Shagged Me is okay but it is not as good as the original. As to Goldmember, the series is stretched to a breaking point and some of the jokes appear to have worn thin. A problem that many sequels face. Bad Boys two is primarily a glossy big budget action movie. It does not count. I think the original is the better film anyway. As to the rest of your list. I would argue that none of them are as good as the original (apart from Next Fiday as I've never seen it or the original). But as you say. Everyones has a different opinion.
purpleronnie Posted 30 March 2012 Posted 30 March 2012 So now it has to be as good as the original? A good funny movie...isnt that enough? (see hangover)

I'll bet you can't even tell me what it's about. Whilst true that it's a very action-heavy film, we're talking about some of the funniest shoot-outs in cinematic history, tied together by scenes which are almost exclusively comedic. It's no less of a comedy than Paul Blart: Mall Cop and a hell of a lot better at it too.

Webbo Posted 30 March 2012 Posted 30 March 2012 Blues Brothers 200... no wait.... Evan Almi..... no hold on... Meet The Foc..... Actually, imo, Meet the Fockers was far funnier than the original Meet the parents.
James18 Posted 30 March 2012 Posted 30 March 2012 One of the funniest films of all time, not sure about the sequel though. Excited, but because the first is so good, i'll have high expectations and it'll most probably be a let down.
21st Century Fox Posted 22 May 2012 Author Posted 22 May 2012 And another one... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_woPDEnOOuI
Charl91 Posted 19 June 2013 Posted 19 June 2013 I didn't even really like the first one. It's no 'Role Models' or 'Dodgeball'.Â
Vacamion Posted 19 June 2013 Posted 19 June 2013 Just like last time, people are going to be quoting the movie a lot. Â I would get your ears tuned to "Say Whaaaat" in readiness... Â
