Is changing the manager the right thing?

Depends what you think is good if failing in the playoffs is good then fair enough

5th and failing in the Play-Offs with the squad we had is good, it's a fantastic achievment. Many of the managers we've had over the last 10 years could have taken that side down.

My God why do I even read this site sometimes? I know many of the more sensible majority probably do not post on here so the % of, how shall I put this, "crazed, moronic backwards folk. Yeah that's right, those people you avoid on the bus" is slightly higher than the actual % but even so! What is wrong with you people? I genuinely mean that, what is wrong? I held back on having a go at you too vehemently at first in case you had genuine mental health problems. I'd hate to have a go at someone on the spectrum, I really would. But I can't stands it no more! I don't mind if you feel NP is not the man for the job (though why you don't just confuses me) it's the vitriol in some of you. The joy in slagging people off. The sheer pleasure in the "I dunt like Pearson and 'e should leave cos 'es sh1t 'n' that inneh? We need a big man up frunt and nun of the plers care! Ah always sed 'e were shit and beckfords a cvnt!". He has had half a fvcking season you dumwits. If by this time next Christmas things have not improved then I will gladly consider a change but I just hate this knee jerk, I can manage the team better from my armchair in my sad little pants attitude. Look at NP at Hull, underwhelming first season then great team built for second season.

I have faith in Mr Pearson. Actually, faith is the wrong word. Faith implies ignorance or blind following, like those silly folk what bvelieve in God. No I don't have faith in Pearson I have trust built on imperical evidence. He has succeeded previously and I can see no reason why he will not succeed again.

UP THE FOXES! UP NP AND FVCK ALL YOU SNIVVELING CVNTS THAT ENJOY REVELING IN NEGATIVITY!!!!!

Until you look at the team who won those playoffs - with a halfwit as a manager and only two players of any quality, one of whom was borrowed from us!

It speaks volumes about our club's decline over the past decade that a near-miss can be portrayed as a badge of honour.

I think the owners need to evaluate what they actually want we all know promotion is the goal and too me it is short term goal get promoted then we will see what happens, I don't think NP will deliver this if I am being honest lets say you give him a summer what is to suggest that he won't do a Sven sign a bunch of players come the first 10 games with 30 points to play for we have 16 points and are 10th not 24 points and 3rd in the league.. you see the problem, you could argue that for any manager even Mick McCarthy again I will harp on about his record he has got promotion out of this division with 2 title winning squads got the in the playoffs in this division as well... you may say oh Sven had a good record as well but the point is he never managed in this division prior to taking over us. We are at a cross roads in terms of what the owners want, lets give NP 3 seasons than promotion, or Mick McCarthy one season than promotion big dilemma that...

Well said Mr Rumble.

I think there's a few players we need to get shot of ASAP and then I think we'll be able to move on.

Depends what you think is good if failing in the playoffs is good then fair enough he aint as good as what the majority like to think in imo, a good manager has the ability to get results against the best teams and the shitty teams also if NP was so good why are we floundering in mid table? He has no record of promotion from this division has never managed in the prem, Get McCarthy in and I will guarantee he will do a far sight better.

Hey look, thats your opinion, thats fair enough but he's the best manager we've has since MON and we were the losers when we let him go last time.

He got us to the Championship playoffs with an average side, but, a side that worked for each other and knew each other from the league 1 campaign, something called STABILITY and spent a hell of a lot less than Sven. Michael Morrison/Jack Hobbs cost barely nothing from and they're hardly that much worse than Matt Mills if at all!

Nigel doesnt like overpaid big heads and has already shown with the signings of Drinkwater/Morgan/Marshall that he can do that with a smaller budget. All cheaper and better than what we had. He's building a side, not trying to make one in 2 months like Sven did last summer with 11/12 new players.

Plus you talk about recent records of promotion.... Ian Holloway has that with Blackpool but he got us relegated so doesnt always work.

Or we could get Neil Warnock, another man with a promotion by his name and he's done so well at Leeds!

Don't understand your banging of long ball McCarthy drum, he'd be about as popular as Syphilis.

Still, whatever floats your boat.

Just think he is a better manager than NP knows how to get teams promoted key thing here ,managed in the prem okay he isn't the most popular in most fans eyes or has the most attractive style but is a far better prospect than NP, will sort our problems out much more quicker than NP and will get us promoted.

No proof of that though.....

It would be a massive gamble sacking a manager that hasnt even had a summer yet to build his own side and replace with someone that is average.

His last spell in the Championship was a good few season ago, things have changed.....

Okay so was it a coincidence he got two teams Sunderland ( 2004-2005) and Wolverhampton Wanderers (2008-2009) title winning sides?

Hi all, dont post very often but wanted to ask everyone/anyone a question. If you think, which I do that the Thais will get rid of Pearson, do you not think they should act now and give a new manager whoever it may be a few games this season to asses the squad in competitive games and give him the entire summer to work/build/remove to the squad. I firmly believe if he is not gone by the e d of the season they will stick with him. For what it's worth I'm not anti Pearson but do wonder if him coming back was the right choice for all parties.

Roy Keane got Sunderland up, Warnock got QPR up, doesnt mean both would come here and get us up.

Im not syaing McCarthy is a bad manager, clearly not, but are you not sick of managers coming and going?

Say he comes in and we have a poor start next season, fans will want ANOTHER manager!

As someone pointed out earlier it took him over a year to build a side at Hull (which interesting have got worse since Pearson left) so cant we at least give him the summer. Bit unfair given he's only had Jan to sign his own players

Posted

Oh if only it was that easy.

That is the problem Babs what do you the Thais want promotion asap if I am not mistaken, we haven't really got time to be staying in this division for far too long do you take a gamble and bring in McCarthy or have steady eddy NP nothing wrong with that but imo it will take with him in charge 2 seasons than promotion. Their is no guarantees that Mick McCarthy would get us promoted next season, but I imagine he would do a far better sight than NP is doing atm.

Anyone calling for a new manager for the start of next season - you're pretty deluded

Why?

STABILITY - Man Utd - prime example as are Everton

Some of you really need to lower your expectations - we have been nowhere near playoff/promotion form in the last two seasons - except for about 4 weeks under Sven but we were massively playing catch up

the problem over the last two seasons is our attitude in games

Beckford, Mills, Gallagher no doubt have quality but are they really team players? this needs to be addressed - under Pearson in L1 we had a team willing to fight for each other and a never give up attitude and this season that has been non existent - and that in many ways has led to us be the most inconsistent team in the land

i'm willing to give NP a whole another season to see what he can do!!

Bit harsh on Pearson, you talk like he's been a disaster!!!

We've been inconsistent, not poor. We've had some terrific results under Nigel, just lost some silly games.....

There was a point a couple of weeks ago where we'd won 8 out of 12 which is promotion form but people calling for his head!

with the attitude of some our players!! really? Some of our players attitude/performances have been nothing far from disgusting !!

Depends how you view the progress NP's remit was to get us into the playoffs at the very minimum this season after Sven was sacked, we have failed in that regards, I admire NP for bringing young hungry players but what I don't admire you have highlighted is inconsistency you can never get a team promoted being inconsistent you need to beat the teams at the top likewise teams at the bottom end, we have done 1/2 of that job.. If we want to get automatic promotion next season can you really see NP achieving that I cannot, at best we can hope for the playoffs which is frankly not good enough for the Thais.

Does McCarthy have a track record of turning around a team and getting them promoted instantly, or building a team and getting them promoted?

It is all about channeling those energies on the pitch, we have a mixture of players those whose attitudes are bad, and crap inconsistent players, if NP can get rid of those players in question than we will see what he is made of I am far from convinced that will happen Mills will go, Beckford sadly will go. The probability that Wellens, Howard, Gallagher and Dyer still being here will be high!

:appl: Well said! I was getting a bit depressed reading this thread, but that put a smile on my face. I'm convinced some people on this forum are here purely to spout the most windowlicking mouthbreathing rubbish they can think of.

It speaks volumes about our club's decline over the past decade that a near-miss can be portrayed as a badge of honour.

You're not looking at that near-miss in context. NP took over officially the worst team ever in the club's history and turned them into a side challenging for promotion to the PL in the shortest time possible. Was anyone expecting anything like that to happen? I wasn't. I'd seen numerous clubs our size or bigger fall into the 3rd tier and struggle for years to get back out again. I'd seen our club struggle in the 2nd tier year after year, and was getting used to the idea of watching the sort of rubbish sides Kelly, Levein and Allen produced fight against relegation every season.

Sounds like you're saying what NP did last time around wasn't good enough because it wasn't as good as what MON did. Well, had the club kept hold of him, who will ever know what would have happened? And you're right, it has been a shitty decade for the club, but to dismiss by far and away the best two seasons in that time because it wasn't at the level we were at 15 years ago really is shortsighted.

Both, in Sunderland's instance he got the team promoted as champions in his second season following relegation. 1st season 3rd place

2nd season- 1st place

In Wolves instance it took slightly longer, first season finished 5th playoffs lost that

second season 7th championship

Third season 1st in the championship

Would you say his credentials are better suited in this division than NP?

So basically no he doesn't have a track record of turning around a team instantly. We aren't a relegated premier league team, we're a team that has never proved itself anything better than midtable with these players under TWO different managers.

Well he has got teams promoted so yes he has a better record, but so have Ian Dowie and a load of other managers you wouldn't touch with a barge pole. How can Pearson ever get a promotion under his belt if he's only given six months?

What if Sunderland had sacked McCarthy for failing to get them up at the first attempt. What if Wolves had sacked him when they finished 7th. That's what you are advocating we should do with Pearson, but then cheerleading a man who you would have sacked for failing to get in the playoffs if you were a Wolves fan back then.
