marbelladave Posted 2 April 2012 Posted 2 April 2012 Save your money Davie. Most home games are streamed on the internet. Put the money you save towards a nice Saga holiday with Mrs Davie G. Will be far more enjoyable in the long run. I haven't gone regularly for years now. PAP!!! Pretty much exactly what I have done...... The money saved since I stopped going in january will pay my share of a 2 week scuba diving holiday in the Red Sea.....
steveherbe Posted 2 April 2012 Posted 2 April 2012 I also no longer feel the need to spend shed loads of money, time and panic-bought diesel to travel up to the City. In fact, I've now discovered ice-hockey at basingstoke. Took Sol the wall Bamba with us on saturday for his first experience, and he loved it as well. On his feet screaming his head off when Basingstoke got the winner with 14 seconds of overtime to go. Puts footy in the shade for excitement and action. And there was no diving, rolling around play-acting trying to influence the referees. All this for 30 quid for 3 tickets, plus a round of beers, and a round trip of approx 40 miles. Son even said to me he wasnt bothered about going to any more City games this season. I can feel a fans revolt coming on, although it would be a shame as we seemed to have discovered an atmosphere at the KP now.
Isopen Posted 2 April 2012 Posted 2 April 2012 Would you be having these thoughts if you were a Pompey fan, or would you be throwing your £100 into the pot to help save the club ? It could be a lot lot worse,,,,
Aeropars Posted 2 April 2012 Posted 2 April 2012 No offence indended here but it seems like a lot of people think the club owe them something! I cannot see how anyone sitting in the stands can dare judge a player and how 'bothered' they are about putting in a good performance. I don't think any fan has a right to suggest a plater is not trying. Thats simply not true. If you want to watch football, buy a tickey. If you cant be bothered and are not enjoying it then dont! I don't see how its a case of needing to be convinced. If you need convincing then you shouldnt renew. Personally, win or lose I enjoy the game. Sometimes its frustrating but this is not life and death. Its simply a game! A game for entertainments purposes and if your not feeling entertained then dont turn up. I really do woner what people would be suggesting about this season if we had not had the massive (over)hype.
Foxes_Trust Posted 2 April 2012 Posted 2 April 2012 Assuming the current financial climate is not the major influence on your renewal decision... Why abandon now when the current owners have made available significant funds to try & get us up ? In comparison under the Mandaric era when a smoke/mirrors approach was taken to avoid signings that could have made the difference ? Just thinking the current owners have done more to deserve "our bums on seats" The level of debt in the process is a worrying trend (as per Pompey situation mentioned above) and cannot continue when Fair Play Rules get introduced, but presume that also isn't the reason you want to stop ?
TrentFox Posted 2 April 2012 Posted 2 April 2012 What a great thread. I've been going regularly since late 70's, (no toilet jokes, please), and if I'm honest, I enjoyed the Div 1 season as much as any in recent memory. Not just because we won a few games, (although that helped), but because the footy felt 'real'. The players had cheaper cars in the car park ! The away fans were funny, not irritating. It made me smile to see teams like Yeovil and Cheltenham and have the occasional beer with some of their supporters .... and a laugh about our teams woes and shortcomings, (crikes, I'd need a week off work to hold that conversation now). I think my point is that it was a fun season and most of us approached it as such. There's not much fun in the stands now - just look at the anger that gets vented on this forum ! As supporters we seem to have locked onto PL at all costs and forgotten that we need to enjoy the journey, too. It's not a computer game where you get promoted every couple of days ! Building a team, seeing players grow and mature, (or not), is part of the fun and I think we all need to get back to that and, as you so eloquently phrase it Davie G, feel that we are a 'part of something' rather than that we are apart from something ! Sleep easy. Whatever decision you make will be the right one.

Guest Col city fan Posted 2 April 2012 Posted 2 April 2012 I think you would miss it. What else you gonna do on a Saturday? This..... Saturday's are ABOUT FOOTBALL.. What else are you gonna do Davie? If you're like me it's in your blood... And it will never go away. As Babs said, it's not the same listening to it on the radio. You gotta be there to be able to truly be able to assess and judge and analyse. You can't even do that properly watching it on a stream IMO. Just get your season ticket mate and don't deny yourself. You're one of us through thick and thin.

NiftyFox Posted 2 April 2012 Posted 2 April 2012 Part of being a football fan is going through the highs and lows. Yes, we are experiencing a low point but you need to stick with us until the end and when promotion comes how great will it feel. Never give up supporting your team no matter the result. Things will change next season and you have to believe. As the say, "Its in the blood".
Trav Le Bleu Posted 2 April 2012 Posted 2 April 2012 I've either not been able to afford a season ticket or when I have, it's been because I'm working jobs that include Saturdays. In fact, only been once this season, which is probably the least matches I've been to in over 10 years, but I've not felt drawn to the club as much. I still want to know how we're doing and follow the team somehow for every game, but as you say, I feel very little attachment to the players we currently have. I am optimistic for next year however. We do have some players that care (I think - how can anyone really know?), who have been here for years and who we might not have seen the best of yet - King, Waghorn, Dyer, Tunchev. They might not be our BEST players, but they are players I think of as being LCFC players. I can see Nugent and Schmeichal becoming proper stars here too, assuming we hang on long enough. Unfortunately we don't know the future - but where would be the fun in that!?
marko Posted 2 April 2012 Posted 2 April 2012 Young Davie, no football on Saturdays means more time with wife... season ticket it is

Going through the highs and lows is very much a part of being a football supporter, this is very true. All I ask is that the team, the players are going through it too........ Too many of the current squad do not seem bothered, too busy 'living the dream' I guess. If they are not bothered then I find it hard to see why I should be either.

But how do you know they are not bothered if you are not going to games, I wouldn't rely on Stringer and especially not Young to give you an accurate view on things nor would I believe the screaming and shouting on here.
purpleronnie Posted 2 April 2012 Posted 2 April 2012 I gave up in 1994....I sensed a changed even then....but.who knew modern football would get this bad?
1964FOX Posted 2 April 2012 Posted 2 April 2012 Yes you must renew. If we lose long time fans of your quality then Sky really has won. you will still be a fan for many years, players will come and players will go as they have in the past. Winning or losing wil not keep the club alive it's us that will. I decided a long time again not to trust on any current team for my enjoyment of the football, it really just is a job to them nowadays (with the odd exception). I don't even expect to see them put in 100% effort each game because they don't. Clearly it's nice to see players who do perform and bust a gut for the club. For me it's all about my fellow fans and their passion for the club, the great social aspect they bring and the whole matchday experience. I have noticed recently a small glimmer of hope, the atmosphee is returning, people are getting fed up of modern football and it will only take time before things change if this momentum is maintined. No it won't necessarily give us success but it will hopefully make for a better experience for all. Imay be deluded ad the eternal optimist but I will always support the 'entity' that is Leicester City footbll club and that is made and maintained by the supporters and no player, owner or TV company can change it. Great thread Davie, as always we can rely on the faithful to remind us how great our club (the fans) is.
Walker Posted 2 April 2012 Posted 2 April 2012 'It's like watching someone else's team' Sums my personal opinion of this team/club up perfectly. I could not be bothered to spend 1hour30mins on a direct train to Blackpool the other night, yet in the League One season I travelled over 3hours on two trains and a bus to get to bloody TRANMERE!! We were shit that night, but it felt like my team. In fact, the shameful thing is, when talking about Leicester to my mates, I refer to them as 'they' not 'we'. Depressing, but then it is Monday morning

Great thread Davie, as always we can rely on the faithful to remind us how great our club (the fans) is. Sky have already won. I think there's literally no way back other than someone at Sky changing things themselves, which they'd be mad to. I'll be getting one next year but.. can see why people are getting pissed off. The football's often poor yet they're on more in a year than most will ever earn. The refs are inconsistent and there IS a problem, but you get the FL instead of sorting the problem, telling the fans to accept the shit rather than sorting it. The support of pretty much everyone is going downhill because clubs are pricing out your regular fan and selling the game to tourists, you've got more and more games being moved to what I believe are deliberately awful kick-off times to stop the fans going and make them watch on TV, I mean look at it, fvcking Southampton away on a Monday night, are you kidding me? Ultimately we're all victims of our own addiction to football and whilst you've got corrupt, dis-interested arseholes still working in the authorities, don't expect a lot to change.
marbelladave Posted 2 April 2012 Posted 2 April 2012 But how do you know they are not bothered if you are not going to games, I wouldn't rely on Stringer and especially not Young to give you an accurate view on things nor would I believe the screaming and shouting on here. I am referring to when I stopped going towards the end of january. Up until that point I had seen about 80% of our games, home and away, and it was clear that a fair few of our players did not give a fook, this was, to me, quite clear from what I was seeing on the pitch. I know I am repeating myself but what I saw was a team that lacked any sense of togetherness, was 'chippy' to each other, the officials and on occasion the fans and did not seen remotely bothered when turned over by some bottom of the table rubbish...... Even when players had decent games I got the impression that some were just showing off, showboating even and really not 'playing for the team'. I accept that this is my opinion but it was the feeling I got from watching the players performances week in, week out and I got the distinct impression that I, and the rest of our supporters were being 'turned over'.
HEGGSY Posted 2 April 2012 Posted 2 April 2012 I'll be getting an ST this year, I love this club, yes we've been absolutely dire this year and there are many reason not to get one but the weekend without Leicester sounds depressing as Fvck (yes, I know its pretty depressing with them as well. ) Davie, I really don't know what to say to convince you (that shows just how bad we've been this year), as you've made it really hard for me to argue against not getting one. I guess you'll have a clearer idea as the season draws closer.
1964FOX Posted 2 April 2012 Posted 2 April 2012 So it's time to make a stand against Sky in the only way we can, won't change anything but will make me feel better. I intend to sing the following at home when we play West Ham. Last home game and SKY ****ED IT UP Last home game and SKY ****ED IT UP and repeat
Babylon Posted 2 April 2012 Posted 2 April 2012 If anything stop me going it will be the fact the games are constantly moved or and we have about 5 Saturday games a year ( well it's not really a fact but you know what I mean).
HEGGSY Posted 2 April 2012 Posted 2 April 2012 If anything stop me going it will be the fact the games are constantly moved or and we have about 5 Saturday games a year ( well it's not really a fact but you know what I mean). I honestly believe this is the main reason people don't buy ST's anymore. They buy them in the knowledge that most home games are to be played on a Saturday afternoon at 3pm, only for 10-15 of the 23 to be moved to midweek games, however they should be used to it by now, considering it's become all too common in recent seasons.
