6th April 2002.

I stood proudly with 20,000 of my fellow Leicester City supporters as we lost 1-0 to Man Utd, condemning us to relegation, each one of us singing "Stand up if you love Leicester". Every single member of the crowd (even the Carling Stand - except the Man U fans spread about) were on their feet for the last fifteen minutes of the game. We knew we were never gonna beat United. We knew we would be going down. We knew there would be tougher times ahead - but we also knew that we loved our club through thick and thin. I've never been more proud to be a Leicester City fan than in that moment; it defined my love for Leicester City and it will stay with me forever. Leicester Till I Die.

God I miss Filbert St.

Yeah, remember that game very proudly, was a great atmosphere, the players never gave up either.

I remember it, I was only 9. I remember the Man Utd fans singing 'we'll sit down if Leicester stay up' or something like that. I think that's where my hate of them stems from. Would love to have some passion like that shown at the KP.

Remember it well was stood in crazy corner with the Utd fans giving us a minute by minute countdown from about the 85th minute as to how long it was till we were relegated.

Was that one of Piper's last matches for us? He played a stormer if i remember right

I think there were a few more games at Filbert Street left - He'd been our best player for months and was a bright prospect for the future - when he scored against Spurs it was reason to celebrate for many reasons - 1, finally, a bloody win, 2, winning at our last ever game at Filbert St and 3, Piper bloody well deserved a goal. Such a shame what happened to him

Was in the east stand with my best mate that day. I was 14, I remember it being so loud, blokes near me crying - so glad I support a club with some substance, than being some glory hunting fool following a club where nothing but victory is failure.

I also remember the same season, against charlton, we went 1-0 up and sang; "we're shit, and we're beating you!" for about 10 minutes.......the they scored.

Good-ish times!

Just one better if you are old enough Oxford it started about 2.30 and finished about 5.30 even the old main stand sang that day.

A shame the walkers could not do the same against Sheff Weds.

As far as atmosphere goes I don't think the KP as it is now will ever better Filbert st.

The attitude is totaly different now do feel sorry the younger fans will never see it.

I agree but by the KP's standards this last quarter of the season, the last few games the atmosphere has improved, considering how disappointing and frustrating this season has been yet we've created a better (than it was) atmosphere is encouraging, just imagine how it will be if (and when) we do 'get it right' on the pitch, hopefully it will be good again by KP standards, I won't be fooled the KP will never have the atmopshere Filbert Street or the older grounds have it just won't because of the 'family matchday experience' that is being branded, how young fans are being bought up and ultimitely how the stadium was designed, it just simply won't hold the atmosphere like an older ground, but aslong as improvement is seen it will be better than nothing.

The crowd did themselves proud that day.

No tears, no bitterness at an awful season, just defiance and dignity and saying how proud we are to support the club and will continue to do so no matter where we are in the pyramid.

Most relegation days are full of anger and disgust- we gave a dreadful team a standing ovation.

Wonderful moment.

Should've got something out of the game.

It was the aftermath team of the MON era of course, a year and a bit under the man who allegedly dismanted MON's team (PT) with Dave Bassett and Micky Adams between them failing to cease the general decline/malaise that was uppermost in the comparitively horrendous 2001-02 side that had gone before them at the beginning and yet one which was still currently their problem........and one that was a shadow of the team from two years previously and even a shadow of the first season under PT. I was there in the kop, it was all in the name of false hope though really and knowing we possibly would face a long time in the wilderness following this season a decade ago. The false dawn was fully realised after our immediate return to the Prem. thanks to then "up and coming" manager Micky Adams at the Walkers Stadium. It was a return which was short lived and after the ill fated season of 2003-04 (where lady luck, La Manga and an erratic defense were our undoing), in which we were not quite good enough when it mattered, failed to prevent our subsequent and alarming decline from thereon........and really it's been mostly doom and gloom and an unprecedented level of false hope ever since that day 10 years ago.....if we were being 100% honest. Still, we still love City!!

Sorry if the walkers as it was now KP can't get up for what was it's Oxford in the Sheff Weds game then it will never do it.

The fans at the Oxford game knew the club and players needed them and performed as did the players.

The Sheff Weds game fans around me were more worried I was stood up and singing trying to gee the side up than they were about us ending up somwhere we had never been before.

That ment more to me than any promotion (and yes I cried and not ashamed of it) dropping to the third division is our lowest eb.

Even David Pleat did'nt manage it.

Is nothing to do with the ground yes all seaters have made a difference but it's the people and fans that attend not the ground.

L1 sing 20% of the Kop sing cos ur sat down don't stop u singing the person you are does

I never said it would.

All I said is the KP has improved within the last few games compared to what we've always known at the KP and that it will never be the same as Filbert Street or the older stadium, but please lets not turn this into a KP v Filbert Street arguement because there is only 1 winner and the atmosphere arguement about the KP has been debated many times with the same outcome.

The Sheffield Wednesday game in 2008 (that defeat) had a cracking atmosphere for the first 30 minutes, really was good to hear and matched most of the best atmospheres I heard at Filbert St.

Yes, all seater stadium didn't help the cause of the latter game's atmosphere when comparing 17 years apart Oxford at Filbo to Sheffield Wednesday at the Walkers in 2008 -a game which was most ruthlessly exposed by the so called fans' priority in having a go at you for daring to stand up and sing when compared to singing your hearts out and being proud to do so, uninhibited at the Oxford game in 1991!! The season we went down to the third tier for the first time ever possibly was probably tempered by an atmosphere of over expectation with it though, I grant you. Martin Allen, Megson and Holloway. Dear oh! :(

Hang on, the moment this thread was created for didn't last for 90 minutes, or even one half.

I agree that the support was needed for the whole match on that day, but for 30 minutes it was excellent.
