bluesbrothers Posted 10 April 2012 Posted 10 April 2012 So, Steve Howard is coming to the end of his career and, lets face it, isn't the player he was. But every club needs a target man for options up front. So, who would you bring in in the summer? In my eyes, a cheeky bid for Sheffield Wednesday's Gary Madine wouldn't be a bad move. Granted, he's playing at League 1 level, but 18 goals a season (and not finished yet I'm sure) from a target man is a great haul. Not convinced Heskey is the answer as many have suggested. Anyway, discuss.
Happy Fox Posted 10 April 2012 Posted 10 April 2012 Darius Henderson, Shola Ameobi would be good options to consider.
AKCJ Posted 10 April 2012 Posted 10 April 2012 Shola Ameobi would never come here. Henderson or Futacs for me.
burni Posted 10 April 2012 Posted 10 April 2012 Wouldn't say no to Heskey being the legend he is, but maybe it's time we get our new Heskey granted he wont be from our academy but i reckon the scouting team will be on the case this summer. Keep Howard on to share his experience and BOOM. Not sure it's Nigels style to splash the cash but that Henderson does look good, I don't think he would come cheap though?
FrankieADZ Posted 10 April 2012 Posted 10 April 2012 for me it would be Futacs....seems to fit the "Pearson" type player imo
Haydos Posted 10 April 2012 Posted 10 April 2012 '4 goals in 24 games Fuctacs'? Give it a rest. And Shola Ameobi? Brilliant. Henderson seems a more likely standard. Will Pearson even ditch Howard?
Bugg Posted 10 April 2012 Posted 10 April 2012 I've seen Futacs in one game (same as most foaming at the mouth for him probably), and I still didn't think he was as good as he's being made out to be.

AKCJ Posted 10 April 2012 Posted 10 April 2012 About 15 of Futacs' '4 in 18' have been sub appearances. Pretty sure he has scored in most starts. Plus we don't need a target man to be a goalscorer.
Happy Fox Posted 10 April 2012 Posted 10 April 2012 Seriously what is wrong with Shola he would be a great target man at this level enticing him may be difficult but he is hardly first choice at Newcastle realistically someone like Lafferty, Henderson would be good choices at this level. But we do need a target man.
Haydos Posted 10 April 2012 Posted 10 April 2012 IF your going on fuctacs scoring record hendersons aint great in 330 games he has scored 91 goals. A decent return this season though. That was just an example. Tbh, my knowledge of Championship players isn't that great. I don't understand how everyone on here seems to know about all these players. They must see glimpses of them on the Football League show, maybe once a season when we play their team. That's about it though. About 15 of Futacs' '4 in 18' have been sub appearances. Pretty sure he has scored in most starts. Plus we don't need a target man to be a goalscorer. So he's not good enough to get a start for 23rd place Portsmouth? And you want him here?

That's about it though. Looking at the players Happy Fox wants it just seems to me he looks at the top scorers charts in each divison and picks names out. Just my opinion though, who knows he may have several hundred DVD's on each player highlighting their strengths and weaknesses.

Is he really that bad? Likelihood is Heskey returning whether he has the legs for this level remains to be seen but he cannot be any worse than Howard.
Haydos Posted 10 April 2012 Posted 10 April 2012 Likelihood is Heskey returning whether he has the legs for this level remains to be seen but he cannot be any worse than Howard. Really? According to what source?
Finnegan Posted 10 April 2012 Posted 10 April 2012 Nothing makes me more physically ill in football than the misguided assertion that "every club" needs some big ****ing donkey to lump the ball up to. Christ, and we wonder why British football is the out dated laughing stock of the modern game.

No they are realistic players , which players have I highlighted are top scorers in their respective leagues? Henderson is fairly standard championship target man and a possibility. I don't claim to have single detail stat, analysis on every single player but the ones I have mentioned, Henderson, Lafferty, Shola are realistic better players than Howard what more could you want.
