dave the caveman Posted 14 April 2012 Posted 14 April 2012 A lot of our squad have no real motive to get us promoted as it would probably spell the end of their time here. That will leave them having to search for a new club. Much better to keep things ticking over just below promotion - not playing badly enough to warrant being sold or dropped, but not playing well enough for promotion. That way they can sleep easy at night knowing they'll still have a club next season. Can't blame them, really.
Guest ttfn Posted 14 April 2012 Posted 14 April 2012 I would be astonished if they weren't on massive pay rises for promotion. They have loads to gain by getting promoted.
Happy Fox Posted 14 April 2012 Posted 14 April 2012 How did you come to that conclusion? it is all well and good saying that but their is no evidence to suggest this and that is what peeps like EVIDENCE, who the f**k knows really but it does sometimes feel like that to me that the players don't give a shit and really want promotion.
beryllind Posted 14 April 2012 Posted 14 April 2012 Its the supporters who haven't got anything to gain from the current squard
roachmachine Posted 14 April 2012 Posted 14 April 2012 fair point, and may explain why they have been bloody c**p most of the season........

Webbo Posted 14 April 2012 Posted 14 April 2012 Their contracts will still be the same length so they certainly won't be worse off. They can't be made to leave for less money so if we wanted to get rid we would have pay any short coming in wages. Also if they didn't ask to leave they would be entitled to a percentage of their transfer fee and a signing on fee.
davieG Posted 14 April 2012 Posted 14 April 2012 They're safe either way if they still have time on their contract and the only player in the squad that doesn't is Howard, the others are all contracted to either 2014 or 2015 and probably have promotion clauses in them.

Have you thought about the potentially massive promotion bonuses a lot of the new signings will be on? Have you ever played sport yourself? Despite what fans think I believe that winning is at the front of 95% of players minds. Competition is a huge.
RowlattsFox Posted 14 April 2012 Posted 14 April 2012 Whilst your point about the majority of these players having no future in the Premier League even if we were lucky enough to get there is probably true. Suggesting that they don't want promotion because of that is ridiculous.
yorkie1999 Posted 14 April 2012 Posted 14 April 2012 Thats hilarious True though. Would you do well so you could lose your job.
RyanB89 Posted 14 April 2012 Posted 14 April 2012 No of course its not true, players want to win football games, simple.
AyewJoking Posted 14 April 2012 Posted 14 April 2012 Theres a difference between wanting to win and having the talent, balls and work ethic to achieve it
accessory Posted 14 April 2012 Posted 14 April 2012 No of course its not true, players want to win football games, simple. Ours didn't today. The lack of spirit, hunger or desire (apart from Schmeichel and Drinkwater) was inexcusable.
Saxondale Posted 15 April 2012 Posted 15 April 2012 I see your point. But, even if this was true, the same logic would apply to every other team in the Championship. Even being cynical, surely players will want to perform well to further their own careers if nothing else.
THEFATBASTARD Posted 15 April 2012 Posted 15 April 2012 getting pretty sick of the modern footballer, mills has been laid off on massive wages and doesn't appear to care..pantsil the same, konch has attitude cos he gets a bit of stick off somebody who pays his wages.. these people want to be cheered and supported even when they totally fail.. don't mention beckford..they are a shower these days..

Players will be on "win" as well as positional bonuses and there would also be reward for getting promotion. The chance to play in the Premiership would be a massive incentive for many of them and if anyone failed to make an impact within the squad they would be seeking another club as marketable players who'd helped to win promotion. That's not such a bad situation - and certainly not enough for anyone to risk not giving their best.
Charl91 Posted 16 April 2012 Posted 16 April 2012 True though. Would you do well so you could lose your job. But bonuses for being promoted aside, being in a promotion winning team, they would most likely get a better contract elsewhere from another championship team who want to get promoted.....plus why would failing to be good enough to get promoted guarantee them another contract anyway?
yorkie1999 Posted 16 April 2012 Posted 16 April 2012 How many qpr players are still in the 1st team from last season. If we had have gone up this season half of the first teamers would become squad players, with no win bonus'
KidKunny Posted 16 April 2012 Posted 16 April 2012 In this team anyone can lose there place, don't matter who they are, how much they cost etc..

It doesnt apply to every team in the championship teams like Blackpool and Norwich with no money keep the same players whilst teams such as QPR dont
