fleckneymike Posted 18 April 2012 Posted 18 April 2012 We still need a win and a draw just to equal last seasons points tally. A points tally gained after one of our worst starts to a season. So was the squad inherited by NFP worse than the one inherited by Sven because this side aren't going to accumulate any more points.
cc_star Posted 18 April 2012 Posted 18 April 2012 There was a playoff squad here when NP left... He's inherited an unbalanced team of individuals this time around, a team who still dont know hard work is always required not just against top opposition. Also not the best comparison as last season's side weren't here for either manager this season... Yakubu, Naughton, Vitor & others
ozleicester Posted 19 April 2012 Posted 19 April 2012 Certainly not, it was still gelling, but the squad shouldve been capable of a top 3 finish
paulsherwood1 Posted 19 April 2012 Posted 19 April 2012 This is exactly the problem, and my biggest concern. We have a squad of players that on paper are probably the best squad in the division. The job of the manager is to gel the team, motivate the team and inspire the team. I don`t buy all this `overpaid players` rubbish, all footballers are well paid and players at other clubs will be on big money as well. What worries me is that NP will dismantle the squad, and these players that leave will do very well at other clubs. Look at Gradel and Campbell as examples. Looking across out team ( certainly the strongest starting XI ) then we have a good side. Really this summer should be about the exit of a couple of players and bringing in a couple of players. We simply dont need a massive overhaul and my fear is that is what will happen. I remain unconvinced.

Wellens? lol If that's the case why aren't we up with Southampton, West Ham et al. Are you saying it's Pearsons fault? If you, are then I would agree. He is NOT the man for the job.

Thats why i keep saying we shouldnt sell the likes of Dyer/Wellens. Yes they may not be 1st teamers every week but they'd be quality back ups next season. Hopefully NP will do what he did at Hull bringing in hungry young players like Stewart, Chester, Brady etc

I think we have some good `hungry` young lads already. I`m not suggesting that Dyer, Wellens or Gallacher are good enough but the starting team below should be. GK Schmeichel RB Peltier LB Koncheski CB Mills/ Morgan/ CB St Ledger / Bamba M King M Drinkwater M Danns M Marshall F Beckford F Nugent That as a basic starting eleven should be good enough. Then you add squad players like Wellens, Schlupp, Vassell, Kennedy, Then I believe that the team have hugely underachieved, and I put this down to the management team.

That group of players have underachieved under two good, and very different, managers. I'm sure the problem is the squad, and that any manager would struggle to get them to perform well.

The side inherited by Pearson wasn't the same as the one that ended last season. Naughton, Bruma,Vitor,Yakubu all left at the end of last season as well as Curtis Davies and others who played their part last season. It's not really a fair comparison.

Incidently, Hull have got worse since NP left. They were well on course but have gone downhill since Barmby came in.... Players that i mentioned though are all in similar mould to Ben Marshall, talented young lads that struggle to find their way at the top level clubs
seenitall Posted 19 April 2012 Posted 19 April 2012 Significantly better IMO - Keeper - no comparison, left back, ditto, midfielder, let someone tell me that any of the King/Wellens/Dyer Gally mob are better than Danns and I'll know you don't understand football. Both Nugent and Beckford stand head and shoulders above Fryatt, Waghorn Howard. The problem is not the players - it is always the manager....................

They were 2 points ahead of us after the Millwall game, this is after 2 summers and 3 transfer windows for Nige to build his team - get over it guys, Hull have been pants since he took over

Riccardo? Ikeme? Kirkland? All signed by Sven.

Can't remember you saying that when Sven was sacked.................... If we're going to look at individual players, then the team Pearson inherited is better, on paper, than the one Sven inherited. However, the team Sven inherited had recently finished 5th in the league, and was quickly replaced almost entirely by borrowed PL players, anyway. All the hastily thrown together team NP inherited has proven is that it can't perform consistently under two talented managers. A team is not the same thing as the sum of its parts.

So you will be happy if he spends very little and hovers around the play offs with a slight chance of getting in then - you actually sound like Hull fan - this is Leicester City man - where did the ambition of this once proud club go and why are those that want it to succeed in a minority on here??

When did I say that? My point is that if he can almost finish top six, and above us, spending very little money imagine what he could do spending the amounts Sven did in the summer.
Babylon Posted 19 April 2012 Posted 19 April 2012 The problem is not the players - it is always the manager.................... So how does that explain your stance on Sven then? Surely he should have been able to get as much from Pearsons players as Pearson did? Pearson is getting as much from his players as Sven managed.

On and on we go eh? Sven's sacking was a gargantuan screw up, right up there with Blackburn firing Allardyce - and guess what, he was fired by an inexperienced board with little football knowledge too. But it is by the by - he was fired because he couldn't get enough points on the board by the time they panicked - and who cares anyway, it is history now - we have to hope that the same fools that run the club realise they have made another mistake and put it right - don't think they will until next season has been forfeited too - Oh well.

I'm ambitious for the club but I think sacking Pearson will do more harm than good. There, does that explain why we;re not all foaming at the mouth ranting idiots?

Babylon Posted 19 April 2012 Posted 19 April 2012 and Beckford stand head and shoulders above Fryatt Except their Championship strike rates obviously.

That's not what he's saying! Hull had different expectations to us and a much smaller budget than us. NP only spent very little there, presumably, because that's all he was allowed to spend. If NP ever gets handed a transfer budget like Sven got in the summer, I'm certain we'll be better off than we are now. Where do you get the idea that only a minority of us want the club to succeed? Just because most of us understand that building a successful team takes a bit of time and patience, does not mean that we're happy to see the club underachieve. Why is it those who can see that ripping it up and starting again every 5 months won't get us anywhere are in the majority?
