Finnegan Posted 24 April 2012 Posted 24 April 2012 It's all "posh boys" getting extra tax relief. #cynical #misuse of hashtag.com Every time you hashtag, God kills a runner racehorse.
Captain... Posted 24 April 2012 Posted 24 April 2012 Every time you hashtag, God kills a runner racehorse. Just me personally or everyone?
Captain... Posted 24 April 2012 Posted 24 April 2012 I was going to get even more cynical on your asses by saying that justgiving.com must be loving it as well, seeing as they get a percentage of all donations and then the cvnts steal my thunder: http://www.thisismon...ts-400-000.html: JustGiving.com has agreed to waive its usual fee on donations given in memory of Claire Squires, the runner who collapsed and died in the London Marathon on Sunday. It follows a surge of requests from those donating online for the charity website to waive its take. Donations have flooded in for the Samaritans on the 30-year-old's fund-raising page with the total hitting £400,000, with a gift aid boost from the taxman included, at 11.30am today. But JustGiving creams off up to 6.5 per cent on donations, after gift aid is added. It had made as much as £26,000 in just 48 hours from Miss Squires' page. #windtakenoutofsails, #warmingglowofhumankindness, #anotherdeadracehorse
DB11 Posted 24 April 2012 Posted 24 April 2012 If you keep pressing F5 it's ridiculous how many pages of donations go up.
Guest Posted 24 April 2012 Posted 24 April 2012 I remember the public's grief when that whore Diana died. The public is a fickle, simple and unreasonable group of people. So justgiving.com usually makes on donations. that's humanity.
Captain... Posted 24 April 2012 Posted 24 April 2012 I remember the public's grief when that whore Diana died. The public is a fickle, simple and unreasonable group of people. So justgiving.com usually makes on donations. that's humanity. But it on average saves money for the charity by taking away a huge source of administration for them, it is a bit cynical, but charities have all said that using justgiving.com has increased the amount they get in donations and reduced their admin costs, win win, and the person that has facilitated that also makes a tidy profit. Charities have overheads like anyone else, imagine the cost if each charity set-up it's own donations web page linked to bank accounts and transferring money, all of this costs. Just giving is not a charitable organisation, it is effectively paypal, but tailored to the charities market, at first I was shocked by the fact they make money, but actually looking into it they are making money for themselves but generating and saving more money for charities, can't really complain.
cambridgefox Posted 24 April 2012 Posted 24 April 2012 Announcement from the Chief Executive of The Samaritans “We are supporting the family through this very difficult time. Our thoughts are with everyone who knew her. “We desperately wish that it was not under these circumstances but we have been overwhelmed by the response from people donating in Claire’s memory. “These donations will be put into a tribute fund and, following discussions with the family, will go towards projects they feel would have been important to Claire. “We appreciate all that our marathon runners do; it is with their support, commitment and fundraising efforts that we are able to offer our vital service for people with nowhere else to turn." They are samaritans by nature to.Willing to give some money away to other projects close to Claire.Good for them.

Shouldn't they be a non-profit making organisation? surely the charities could get together and set one up if not and save even more money?
James. Posted 24 April 2012 Posted 24 April 2012 Just Giving isn't the only site offering this service. Virgin Give Money and BT My Donate are not-for-profit. People have a choice.

BHAFC Braders Posted 24 April 2012 Posted 24 April 2012 always good when something good can come out of something tragic.
Kilworthfox Posted 24 April 2012 Posted 24 April 2012 I knew Claire relatively well. She did alot of charity & community work. She was genuinely very well liked and popular all over South Leicestershire. All of her friends & people from the surrounding villages are stunned at this tragedy! The TV cameras seem to have been camped in the village today & I saw her sister giving an interview this morning to ITV. It's a real shock & a terrible tragedy. I knew her quite well & saw her at the local gyms often, she was an extremely healthy person & physically fit, always out running & doing gym classes etc... I am sure in time there will be some comfort to her family judging by the public reaction & the money raised.
Captain... Posted 24 April 2012 Posted 24 April 2012 Shouldn't they be a non-profit making organisation? surely the charities could get together and set one up if not and save even more money? But that would cost money, and require organisation and expertise, just giving are not a non profit organisation, they are not a charitable organisation, but what they have done is provide a platform for charities to maximise their donations and increase the amount of money that charities have received. Interesting debate on it here: http://charitymash.com/2009/does-5-make-justgiving-a-digital-friend-or-foe-for-charity/ It seems that collecting Gift Aid is highly time consuming and requires a full time staff by the charity, Justgiving saves them a lot of time and effort and by scaling up the process can do much more, and more efficiently, they also take their cut from the gift aid and not the actual donation.
Larry_LCFC Posted 24 April 2012 Posted 24 April 2012 That whore Diana? Really? Finnegan this really isnt the place :l On a happier note, the money donated has smashed £560,000. Figure upto around £465,000 with £100,000 in giftaid etc to be added. Truely brilliant!
renards Posted 24 April 2012 Posted 24 April 2012 Great to see, but also very sad. Figures moving like crazy. 3/4 million I guess
Larry_LCFC Posted 24 April 2012 Posted 24 April 2012 Would be incredible if the figure could hit a million. On top of what the figure on the website shows at the minute, giftaid and a donation from virgin has to be added which in total is probably 200k atleast.
Houdini Logic Posted 24 April 2012 Posted 24 April 2012 ... what? I can only imagine they didn't see the post above yours
Webbo Posted 24 April 2012 Posted 24 April 2012 I can only imagine they didn't see the post above yours Don't include me I was just stirring.
rico Posted 24 April 2012 Posted 24 April 2012 just been on her giving page, can't believe how quick the donations are coming in !
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 24 April 2012 Posted 24 April 2012 Sad news about the lass who died but its fantastic that the amount being raised for the charity she was running for is going up so quickly
Libertine Dream Posted 24 April 2012 Posted 24 April 2012 Its just crazy how the donations are flooding in. Its great the know how humanity reacts in the face of adversity. Looking at the donations and seeing people donate a hundred quid to someone they didnt know is amazing, its a shame it takes a death for people to come together to this degree
Haydos Posted 27 April 2012 Posted 27 April 2012 £811,000 on JustGiving now, although a friend on Facebook who knew her just posted that they've hit £1,000,000 total.
