Babylon Posted 5 July 2012 Posted 5 July 2012 He said "no doubt". That implies it's a fact, not an opinion. Col is one of the few people on here who talks any sense. I have an interesting experiment. What I'm planning to do is to build a giant machine underground in Switzerland. Which fires foxestalk posters in opposite directions around a giant loop at the speed of light. The ensuing collision and explosion, will enable me to determine if there is such a thing as the "twat particle".
davieG Posted 5 July 2012 Posted 5 July 2012 He said "no doubt". That implies it's a fact, not an opinion. Col is one of the few people on here who talks any sense. Well it seems to me it could be read as: No doubt it's fact that he..... or No doubt in my opinion he...... As he didn't specify who knows but I would have thought that as he was prediction something then it would more than likely be an opinion. But that's just my opinion not a fact.
indierich06 Posted 5 July 2012 Posted 5 July 2012 I hope you're right Babs.. I think we need at least a couple to give us a fighting chance. Was talking about this with mi uncle last night. He's a big City fan but also follows Liverpool. We agreed that the signing of Danny Murphy to Blackburn could be the signing of the summer. We need similar in terms of quality to bring through the potential in the young uns. I agree, we could do with a Danny Murphy, or a Kevin Nolan type character somewhere in the team, someone with a wealth of experience to help the young lads out. We're definitely missing characters like Chris Powell, Bruno Berner, Steve Howard and Matt Oakley around the club - I'm not saying I'd want any of them in the side, or that they were particularly amazing players while they were here, but the experience they brought to the side was invaluable. We definitely need some seasoned pros back in the side, which is why I personally wanted us to sign Jason Roberts in the January window and I would've been very happy if Danny Murphy had pitched up here.
goose2010 Posted 5 July 2012 Posted 5 July 2012 so this is the twitter links page? when was the last link from twitter made, all i can see is people slagging off players that have been linked with us by people that know feck all!
LexicalChoice Posted 5 July 2012 Posted 5 July 2012 Wick ham is exactly what we lacked last year! A big powerful guy to stop the ball just coming straight back! Nile Ranger..

"No doubt in my opinion" isn't a thing at all - it's a statement of fact - either there's doubt or there's not. Either way jumping down Col's throat for a rational response was ridiculous (not that it was you, obviously).

Having an opinion you have no doubts about is not 'isn't a thing at all' Politicians run this Country on opinions they have on the situations they have no doubts about. Well this is not the Literary Guild and people don't tend to use perfect prose it was obviously an opinion albeit not a very well expressed one. Do you really expect everyone that posts to add 'in my opinion' on the end of everything they say which is virtually every post in the football forum? Wasn't col jumping down the throat of the original poster who just posted a throw away here today comment? In my opinion of course!
indierich06 Posted 5 July 2012 Posted 5 July 2012 so this is the twitter links page? when was the last link from twitter made, all i can see is people slagging off players that have been linked with us by people that know feck all! All I can see is some bellend moaning about the fact that no-one's posting any made up bollocks off of twitter - here's an idea, if you want to see stuff from Twitter, there's a website where it's all collected together, you just have to search for it - it's called http://www.twitter.com

I disagree about your first point, but you're right, this isn't the literary guild. I think Babylon, Col and others (myself included) are fed up with the constant stating of opinion as fact on here with nothing to back it up.

People may write in the form of fact but it's obvious in most cases that it's just an opinion, a feeling, a wish or hope if you like. Seems to me if it was a fact people would clarify that, to me it's a given on here that everything no matter how it is phrased unless stated specifically otherwise is an opinion. Now that's not a fact as I can't prove it, it's just my opinion.

Wasn't col jumping down the throat of the original poster who just posted a throw away here today comment? In my opinion of course! To be fair yes I was a little DG. Unnecessary of course. Here's the reason... Last pre season, Beckford was signed to a fanfare of praise and adulation by the majority of posters on this forum. Similar comments were made about how he was going to 'fire us to the Premiership' and 'score for fun' etc etc... To be fair to him, he still could, he clearly has that potential, but I said there and then, I'm unsure, he can be temperamental, so let's just wait and see. With some of the comments about possibly signing Wickham, I fear the same thing will happen again. He's got potential, he offers a physical presence that maybe neither Nuge or Beckford do, but to state, in an unsubstantiated opinion, that he's bound to get 15 goals for City immediately raises expectation, applies that he's shit hot and that we gotta go and get him. I'm just suggesting whoa back, don't let's start all the 'star striker' cobblers again OR if that's what you really think, explain why...

So what you're really saying is that people shouldn't fantasise about the potential impact a player might have, judging from the many shitty years we've had at LCFC this is probably the only enjoyment people get or will get.
Filbert_Ross Posted 5 July 2012 Posted 5 July 2012 We'd played about 6 games before we signed Beckford.

You got a point there.... No, what I'm saying is lets not massively over inflate the level of expectation on us again this season. I think that did the club some harm last season. If we are linked with a player like Wickham great.. But just be sensible about what he might or might not achieve, if he even joins us... Anyway, back to Twitter links.....

Corky Posted 5 July 2012 Posted 5 July 2012 I think Beckford will score 44 goals this season and Cameron Stewart could be our next Steve Guppy. FACT. Don't shoot me down, it's only an opinion.

marbelladave Posted 5 July 2012 Posted 5 July 2012 I have an interesting experiment. What I'm planning to do is to build a giant machine underground in Switzerland. Which fires foxestalk posters in opposite directions around a giant loop at the speed of light. The ensuing collision and explosion, will enable me to determine if there is such a thing as the "twat particle". Sadly Foxes Talk posters have mass, so accelerating them to lightspeed is not possible. If you could somehow isolate their electronic 'online presence' then maybe it would work, try some of the more experienced members, they have 'gravitas' which should help. If you succeed in creating Higgs-Boson, then we can get NFP to sign him up. He is reputed to be very fast and can, naturally play on both wings at the same time, a great advantage in my view! Although yet to be confirmed, it is believed that Higgs-Boson will be able to get crosses into the box before he actually receives the ball, should cause some bother to even the best of defences. An added bonus is that you may actually create some anti-twat particles, commonly known as the 'twunt' particle, that can be used to reduce the overall 'twatishness' of this board.
