Guest Col city fan Posted 5 July 2012 Posted 5 July 2012 I think you can only base any accurate opinion of a player on actually seeing them play. There's been a lot of talk about how good or bad some of our new signings are... How many of you have actually seen DeLaet play for example? I've seen Wickham play a few times. He's raw, but his potential is clear to see. He's big, strong, holds the ball up well and is good in the air. He would provide an excellent foil for the existing strikers IMO. However, he has lots of potential.... I think it's time we got a couple of proven players in at the club, to bring on the current crop of 'potential' we have.
Danny the Fox 95 Posted 5 July 2012 Posted 5 July 2012 He'd be quality. Doubt he'd come here though, as if he was ever available Ipswich would want him back, and I'm sure he would go back to them.
Fox92 Posted 5 July 2012 Posted 5 July 2012 I don't get the obsession with Conor Wickham? We need a mobile target man. He may have scored a handful of goals, but he is young and still upcoming. From what I've seen, he is quick, strong, skillfull and can hold the ball up. It's something we need, so as soon as I heard Wickham was linked, I was happy.
muzzy1981 Posted 5 July 2012 Posted 5 July 2012 I don't reckon Pearson would bother with wickham. We really just need a better replacement for Howard, I reckon we have loads of fire power in becks, nuge, vardy and waggy. Goals need to come from alround the park too. Defender, winger, Target man(yawn) is our need
teblin Posted 5 July 2012 Posted 5 July 2012 Wick ham is exactly what we lacked last year! A big powerful guy to stop the ball just coming straight back!
indierich06 Posted 5 July 2012 Posted 5 July 2012 He'd be quality. Doubt he'd come here though, as if he was ever available Ipswich would want him back, and I'm sure he would go back to them. He might want to go back to Ipswich, but it also depends on where the club want him to go. They might not want him to go back to Ipswich - that's his comfort zone, the whole point of sending kids out on loan is to get experience and to get them out of their comfort zone. MON will probably take a look at the players and the manager at the clubs who bid for him and make a decision based on that. I think if we're in for him then we've got a good chance of getting him - NP has a fantastic reputation for bringing on young players and I'm sure he can get the best out of Wickham. I'd be very happy with this if it came to fruition.
Danny the Fox 95 Posted 5 July 2012 Posted 5 July 2012 MON might want to do us a favour too! Conor Wickham could be a very good player, and no doubt if he came here he would bag at least 15 goals!
adamkhalifa Posted 5 July 2012 Posted 5 July 2012 I might be wrong, but I heard/read somewhere Conor Wickham has a bit of an attitude. A Mill's type personality. Only time will tell.
burni Posted 5 July 2012 Posted 5 July 2012 I always thought Wickham was over rated and just maybe one for the future, never set this league a light before doubt he would now, if he came here obviously id like to be proved wrong but we have our own younger players such as waggy and shlupp who id rather develop. In his last championship season he scored 9 goals whilst in waggys near full season scored significantly more
Guest Col city fan Posted 5 July 2012 Posted 5 July 2012 MON might want to do us a favour too! Conor Wickham could be a very good player, and no doubt if he came here he would bag at least 15 goals! There you go again...'no doubt' he would bag 15 goals? You seen him play much? What you basing this on? Is this the same as people had 'no doubt' Beckford would bag 20 league goals? I'd like to see Wickham here because he'd be different to the other strikers. But I have no idea whether he'd score 15 goals for us. He might, he might not

Guest Col city fan Posted 5 July 2012 Posted 5 July 2012 You are a twat at times. He was simply stating his opinion, not a fact. No need to be abusive. I know its an opinion, but based on what? Opinions are fine but back them up with reasons. Then it can be debated. I don't think Wickham has even played much first time football for some time.
Babylon Posted 5 July 2012 Posted 5 July 2012 You are a twat at times. He was simply stating his opinion, not a fact. Yes, a stupid opinion. People need to stop hiding behind "ohhh don't have a go it's only an opinion". No need to be abusive. I know its an opinion, but based on what? Opinions are fine but back them up with reasons. Then it can be debated. I don't think Wickham has even played much first time football for some time. Based on thin air.
Jakemoore Posted 5 July 2012 Posted 5 July 2012 This whole thread is supposed to avoid debates, discussions and reason! It's supossed to be "so and so may sign" "so and so is interested" etc....therefore you're all to blame! Stop ruining what could have been the only decent thread on the forum!

I think there's some great threads on the forum at the moment... And if I want to ask people why they think signing Connor Wickham would be good for City then I will. If that's ok with you?
Guest ttfn Posted 5 July 2012 Posted 5 July 2012 You are a twat at times. He was simply stating his opinion, not a fact. He said "no doubt". That implies it's a fact, not an opinion. Col is one of the few people on here who talks any sense.
indierich06 Posted 5 July 2012 Posted 5 July 2012 In his last season at Ipswich he started to show his true potential, then he got whisked off to Sunderland. I think he would have benefitted from another season in the Championship at least, to get some games and some goals under his belt. The potential is definitely there, but since the big money move and the injuries he's suffered, his progress as a player has definitely stalled. He seems to be a model pro though, he's been doing loads of extra training over the summer and taking mixed martial arts classes to help him get as fit as possible before the start of the new season - he definitley seems to have the right attitude. For me, he's definitely worth taking a punt on - if Nigel can get the best out of him, we'll have a very good player on our hands.
Kyle_Le_Don Posted 5 July 2012 Posted 5 July 2012 No. Source... My girlfriends uncles step sisters delusional Auntie. She said "no, just... No!" Don't shoot the messenger

They either report rumours which are already out there, or just make stuff up. I can do that, watch: "Heskey will sign on a one year pay-as-you-play deal, while NP is lodging bids for Koren and Chester today" If I posted that from a Twitter account called @officialfootyrumours or something, everyone would be wetting their little knickers over it.

Nodsy Posted 5 July 2012 Posted 5 July 2012 From @officialfootyrumours: "Heskey will sign on a one year pay-as-you-play deal, while NP is lodging bids for Koren and Chester today" Anyone know if they’re reliable?
Guest Col city fan Posted 5 July 2012 Posted 5 July 2012 It's as good as certain. I hope you're right Babs.. I think we need at least a couple to give us a fighting chance. Was talking about this with mi uncle last night. He's a big City fan but also follows Liverpool. We agreed that the signing of Danny Murphy to Blackburn could be the signing of the summer. We need similar in terms of quality to bring through the potential in the young uns.
