Why we shouldn't all be worried!

The season is over, the summer is here, we are in better shape now than this time last season, we have a squad of our players that have played a season together and we know what we need to strengthen.

We have a few promising youngsters coming through as well as a number players in the first team with age and time on their side, who could establish themselves as mainstays of this side for years to come.

For those worried about the financial management of the club, the FFP rules will mean that the future of the club is assured and there is no way we can get into spiralling amounts of debt and go into administration.

For those worried about NP, put this season behind you, despite numerous injuries, suspensions, appalling refs, managerial upheaval, needless press speculation and stroppy players we have finished higher in the league than last season (another one blighted by upheaval) and apart from last time NP was here it is our highest finish for a long time.

Whether NP is the right man for the job or not, I don't know, but one thing I do know is there is no manager currently available that would be such an improvement over NP that it is worth the financial cost and the cost to stability of the team to replace him (except maybe Guardiola).

Now relax, have a beer and enjoy the pre-season of speculation, and lets just all pray we finish next season with the same manager that starts it.

Amen, It was always going to take pearson time to build anyway.

Look at Hull, he needed a couple of months to get rid of all the dead wood from the premier league (Ashbee, Bullard, Ghilas etc) And then the following season replaced them with promising players (Stewart, Brady, Evans, Chester etc).

Very sensible and agree with lots. Sadly, I think you have WOEFULLY underestimated the alcohol consumption required to cope with a (modern) LCFC pre-season of speculation !! I was thinking more of several bottles of Aberlour, taking up smoking, vailum, prozac ........ etc etc etc

You rang ? Despite some of my rather contentious posts I am looking forward to next season too. I have even booked the back seat on the optimist bus so see you all on board. Good post Captain, by the way it has given me a little more faith

A great summer ahead.

The Olympics, the Euros..........& a mountain of transfer speculation!!

Good times!!

I was irrationally optimistic last summer, but I'm confident & have a more rational optimism for next season

Pearson better pray we make a good start, because I doubt he'll be given much more than eight games if things aren't going well. Now he's going to have the summer to build his own team, he no longer has any excuses for the kind of diabolical performances we've seen occasionally in the last few months. I think any less than four wins from the first eight and he'll be gone. The problem is that hitting the ground running is going to be very difficult with what will again be a fairly new team.

I'm more optimistic now than my average level of optimism over the last ten years, but I'm less optimistic than I was this time last year. I think with Pearson we'll finish between 4th and 8th, and I just don't see the owners being happy with that.

Interesting point re pressure. Looking at the teams in the play-offs. Three of them will be here again next season. How many of those are we confident of finishing above ? There will probably be Wolves, Blackburn and Bolton, too. Are we confident of finishing above those teams as well ? Add to that a promoted team that always seems to do well and a possibly much improved Leeds, Boro' and Ipswich. Whatever my anxieties about NPs tactical nous, I'm extremely confident he will handle the pressure. Not sure I'm so confident that some of our supporters will, though ! Despite the teams I've highlighted, there will be some people that still expect us to roll everyone over week in week out and call for blood when we don't .

Yes, good post. Just want to say the "summer" is dragging already. When is the first league game of next season?

Good post, and I am inclined to agree, but if Pearson want's to keep his job, he will have to get us off to a flying start.

Wasn't meant to be negative - and you've changed dramatically over the last couple of weeks, by the way, so ten out of ten for you - but it was a point about managing expectations. It is a fiercely competitive league. Desperately hard to get out of in an upward direction. The post I was replying to was kind of saying about NP needing to handle the pressure. The point I was trying to make is that so do we as supporters. There genuinely are so many pessimists on here. (Don't think I'm one, but I'm open to feedback!). Better to be on the "optimistic bus" than the "pessimistic bus". They'll both finish the season at the same point. But one set of passengers will have had a much more enjoyable journey. We have some people who just can't accept that there are many good teams in this league, just as ambitious as we are, and we just need to shrug our shoulders and understand that we will lose some games and play poor football in some games. i.e.Learn to handle the pressure of supporting a medium-large club that's fallen on difficult times and is trying admirably hard to restore itself to former glories. Those that can't do that put undue pressure on everyone else that is doing their bit to move the club forward. That's all !

i really do think that it'll be a harder league next season .whoever goes up , whether straight or play-off winners , they will really have to produce the goods . every point will be vital next season . tough ,tough ,league !

Things which have made me stop worrying include;

The owners turning up for the West Ham game

The owners reaffirming their commitment

Nigel Pearson reaffirming the owners commitment

Nigel talking as though he will be here next season

Being linked with realistic, hungry young players

A commitment from the owners to invest in the playing squad but...

not ridiculous amounts

We will do ok next season and hopefully will be promoted in good time to start paying off the £50 million!

Bolton are massively in debt (far more than would be covered by parachute payments) and would have to offload a lot of their players.

Blackburn are in the middle of a civil war between fans and owners, which will only get worse post-relegation. How Wolves do will depend on the new manager they bring in and how many changes he makes to the squad.

I think it may be the promoted clubs from League 1 that will cause us more problems.
