What the **** has Downing got / not got to do to get dropped? Piss poor player.

He has played pretty well the last few games he's played for England to be fair.

Good one.

I'm sorry but I must disagree with you here. He may have been quite neat and tidy but he just doesn't make things happen. A couple of decent crosses but that's it. Hope he proves me wrong but I think he's gash.

Would only use Walcott as an impact sub against France would have Milner on the right AOC on the left. Need to offer cover for the fullbacks as France are a very potent threat

I've no doubt we'll do everything we can to protect the back 4. From Parker's interview it sounded like both he and Gerrard will be playing a defensive role. Sounds like we're trying to hit them on the break but Milner and Downing aren't particularly quick or good at skinning people, so I'm struggling to see where our threat comes from, I can see Young and Welbeck being very isolated.

I'd honestly be tempted to play Walcott up front if at all. I think he's a better finisher than a crosser, and he's often let down by his decision making, which wouldn't be as much of a problem if his job was to score goals. Plus he's quick and that's the kind of thing we need to frighten the opposition. Of course I realise this is far too outside the box for Hodgson.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was evidently feeling the nerves at Wembley the other week, but he's a top class talent and I wish we'd take a chance on a youngster wo will run at players and give us a bit of flair, like we did with Owen and Rooney at one time.

Wouldn't start him, just another fvck boring player with no excitement at all.

I'd deffo start Milner he's a decent winger who is a good defender and puts a lot of effort in.

He really is going to be something.

Agree with you re Milner - I just think a guy like Adam Johnson offers a genuine threat and should be in for Downing. It seems to me Roy is going to go ultra defensive - not something we're renowned for doing very well.

Are we seriously STARTING with Stewart Downing? I mean it's bad enough we're taking him but I thought we'd at least have the sense to pick Walcott or Oxlade-Chamberlain, or play 4-4-2 with one of those 2 and Young.

It's just fvcking retarded.

I agree, Stewart Dowing should be at home in bed and be replaced with Adam Johnson who actually creates and scores goals.

Downings stats last season are woeful : Goals: ZERO Assists: ZERO for a winger that is terrible. I don't know what Roy was thinking it gets me so mad complete dogshite

Didn't Johnson refuse to be on the backup list or something?

I think France have far too much speed and skill in their lineup for England to think they can play with an attacking lineup on Monday and expect to get something out of it.

I'm with Hodgson on this one. If he plays Downing, it's not to score goals. Pack it in and try to frustrate France this time. 0-0 would be briilliant. There are points to be had in the other two games.

Glen Johnson = secret Weapon

Are we really undefeated in the last 10 games? - I still believe :)

I can see England progressing past the group stages, but compared to the other teams and knowing about the amount of absences in the squad, they won't get that far.

Yet even the first three games won't be a piece of cake. France are very strong and a great unit once more, nothing compared to the mess from a couple of years ago.

Sweden are no pushovers, only the Ukraine will falter early on and crumble under the pressure (in the same way Poland did against Greece).

Losing several players to injuries is the key here. I don't think the English are as strong as a collective as before.

And should they finish first or second in Group D, there's always Spain, Italy or Croatia waiting...

But who knows - for once I'll let England and the replacement players surprise me.

todays the day come on england . its coming home

France unbeaten in 20+ and have a midfield most people know more about than ours............

Optimistically cautious...........

Let's hope we can do it.
