carlhltid Posted 29 May 2012 Posted 29 May 2012 noooooo chance aint nowhere near good enough and dont even think we will progress further than the group stages. i think italy have a good chance and my outside bet would be on Russia.anyone think we can win it ?
LCFC FOX Posted 29 May 2012 Posted 29 May 2012 Spain Germany Holland Portugal Are the only teams I reckon are better than England
stripeyfox Posted 29 May 2012 Posted 29 May 2012 I can't remember a lower key build up to a tournament in my lifetime. normally the press build us up as potential winners, never more so than before the last World Cup where after scraping, and I mean, scraping through the group we got stuffed by the first decent side we played. Getting out of the group in the Euros is on paper even more difficult as there really are no "easy" games like in the WC (even if England make the "easy" games difficult). There is no room for error, or a false start. If we do get through the group then we could very easily face Spain or Italy in the QF (assuming these sides qualify at the expense of Ireland and Croatia - and to be honest, I wouldn't bet loads of money on us beating them either).
Fox92 Posted 29 May 2012 Posted 29 May 2012 I think we will finish 2nd in the group. This means we will have to play the winners of group C (I think it is), which I think is Spain. And they will beat us, and we will go home.
Leicester_Loyal Posted 29 May 2012 Posted 29 May 2012 Our chances are about as good as they were of winning the Eurovision Song Contest.

I don't understand the complete lack of build-up to the tournament........considering it starts in a little over a week. You're right that there are no easy games, but we can beat anyone 'on our day', as many of the pundits will tell you prior to kick-off. When was the last time it was 'our day'??
Finnegan Posted 29 May 2012 Posted 29 May 2012 Spain Germany Holland Portugal Are the only teams I reckon are better than England Obviously not following much football at the moment then are you? You've missed out a very obvious one in your group - one that might actually stop you getting to the second round, given you've got to play the hosts and pick up your customary draw with Sweden. You've got absolutely **** all chance of winning it and will probably get humbled in the quarters again, if not before. But to be fair, what I would say this time is that expectation is at an all time low. Which, to be honest, is great news for Hodgson and for your country's future. You just need to get your heads down, give experience to a few youngsters, enjoy the tournament and build for the next World Cup. Some good prospects in your set up, despite a lot of mediocrity.
Webbo Posted 29 May 2012 Posted 29 May 2012 Every team in it has a chance if only a small one. The preparation hasn't been ideal but we're not half as bad some people say/hope. I won't be writing us off before a ball's been kicked.
LcFc_Smiv Posted 29 May 2012 Posted 29 May 2012 Does anyone else not feel we stand a slightly better chance when we aren't being made out as a 'huge' team who should beat anyone and everyone.

Tom17LCFC Posted 29 May 2012 Posted 29 May 2012 Does anyone else not feel we stand a slightly better chance when we aren't being made out as a 'huge' team who should beat anyone and everyone. Yep, without all the pre-tournament hype I reckon we could surprise a few. Can't see us winning it but wouldn't be surprised to see us in the semi's.
Saxondale Posted 29 May 2012 Posted 29 May 2012 Almost no chance. English football has had a rose-tinted view of itself for far too long.
Guest Bilo Posted 29 May 2012 Posted 29 May 2012 Making it through the group would be an achievement in my view. Ukraine are shit, but they're at home and we wilted in the hostile atmosphere last time we played in Kiev. France have transformed beyond all recognition from the laughing stock at the World Cup and could be dark horses for the whole thing. We almost never beat the Swedes as Finners has already mentioned and it'll be a struggle to do so now. No Rooney for the group stage either isn't helpful. Don't expect a summer of excitement is my advice. That said, nobody really is.

Kitchandro Posted 29 May 2012 Posted 29 May 2012 I thought we had a great chance, but now we've lost Gareth Barry we can forget it.
purpleronnie Posted 29 May 2012 Posted 29 May 2012 Am I the only person who thinks France will beat us? Same chance as Chelsea had in the champions league. They don't have all english players.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 29 May 2012 Posted 29 May 2012 Can see us drawing every group game and going out.
Fox92 Posted 29 May 2012 Posted 29 May 2012 Am I the only person who thinks France will beat us? I think France will beat us. Everybody looks at their performances on and off the pitch at the 2010 World Cup, but they are a different side now. Thats why I stated earlier that I think France will win the group, with us finishing second, meaning we would have to play the winners of group C (probably Spain) and loose.
ScouseFox Posted 29 May 2012 Posted 29 May 2012 Everyone with half a brain thinks we'll lose to France.
MooseBreath Posted 29 May 2012 Posted 29 May 2012 We'll be out by the time Rooney is back, and then he'll do something ridiculous like score a hat-trick in the 3rd game and everyone will be full of if-only's. Can see us losing 2 - 0 to France after being outplayed everywhere and then losing by an odd goal, maybe something like 3-2 in either a controversial manner or by virtue of some stupid sending off or horrendous mistake against Sweden.
