leicesterisme Posted 31 May 2012 Posted 31 May 2012 Reputation of the club goes before the player once again imo, would Jordan Henderson honestly have been on stand by if he was playing for Sunderland still.
Corky Posted 31 May 2012 Posted 31 May 2012 Annoyingly, I'm starting to get the bug for this tournament. I'd love us to f**k France over after what they did to us in 2004. For punishing us when we should've had the game wrapped up? Criminal it was to throw that match away.
purpleronnie Posted 31 May 2012 Posted 31 May 2012 For punishing us when we should've had the game wrapped up? Criminal it was to throw that match away. remember that game I was in cyprus at the time, we do have a tendancy to mess good situations up with a stupid red card or late conceaded goal. We'll probably now have one of the weakest midfields around, I don't rate our defence and with rooney missing 2 games, we need every player to play at their best just to get through the group.
ousefox Posted 31 May 2012 Posted 31 May 2012 We're looking very weak in the middle now. Just Gerrard and Parker who are good. Might have to play 442 which i couldn't see before. Wish we could bring Scholes in.
Fox92 Posted 31 May 2012 Posted 31 May 2012 Mark Noble should have been called up in my opinion. (I mean, he should be in the squad. Not to replace a player like Henderson).

Wish we could bring Scholes in. Still think we will 4-2-3-1. Parker and Gerrard with Young behind Carroll and Milner and Walcott on wings.

MooseBreath Posted 31 May 2012 Posted 31 May 2012 Our team looked weak before. It still looks weak. The only way we're going anywhere is by taking advantage of being the underdogs and just scraping out crap wins. There's no way we're getting anywhere playing football. But who knows, maybe being shit suits us...
Happy Fox Posted 31 May 2012 Posted 31 May 2012 Anything is possible trouble with England fans in the past has been expectation and thinking they have God given right that they will win, the World Cup, Euros etc and that has in itself given the players of the national team a cocky attitude, with Roy he will keep the players grounded and instill the right mentality.

I don't buy that, I've never met anyone or read anything on here by anyone thinking we would win anything ever. Some people, myself included, have said we could win but that's more hope than arrogance. Wanting your country to do well doesn't make you cocky or stupid.
AjcW Posted 31 May 2012 Posted 31 May 2012 M'Vila just limped off in tears.... Chances of an opening win improved!

We can have the right mentality all we like, when were simply nowhere near good enough having the right mentality wont matter.

RowlattsFox Posted 31 May 2012 Posted 31 May 2012 Anyone would think we are sending the current Leicester squad to the euros. We're not as good as the top sides but we're not that bad, anything other than getting out the group should be deemed as failure. Quarter finals should be the minimum we expect IMO.
Tielemans63 Posted 31 May 2012 Posted 31 May 2012 With Jordan Henderson driving the team on we've got it sown up already.
reynard Posted 5 June 2012 Posted 5 June 2012 We've as much chance as any other side. If Denmark and Greece can win it so can anyone. Personally I'm not a fan of the competition but I can see us being hard to breakdown and fluking a load of 1-0 wins. I'd like to see a straight knock out tournament and get rid of the really boring group matches or give 5 points for a win and none for anything else with postions decided by goals scored if level on points. Still expect Italy to draw their group games and go on to do quite well whilst Spain keep the ball for 80 minutes of each match by passing sideways for most of the game and eventually scoring a wonder goal. Fully expect Alan Green to say "this is awful" within 30 minutes of his first commentary. Still I might be surprised.
Babylon Posted 5 June 2012 Posted 5 June 2012 It would be typical of us in a year nobody expects anything, to go on and grind out a win somehow.
Libertine Posted 5 June 2012 Posted 5 June 2012 There seems to be quite an attitude of "There's less expectation this time... So we should do well!"
Corky Posted 6 June 2012 Posted 6 June 2012 There seems to be quite an attitude of "There's less expectation this time... So we should do well!" That's true. And Rio Ferdinand isn't going, if you hadn't heard.
Jon the Hat Posted 6 June 2012 Posted 6 June 2012 Rio needs to shut up and face the fact that if his own manager doesn't think he is fit enough, then Roy is perfectly within his rights to leave him out. Personally my two biggest disappointments are Carrick and Richards declining to be on the standby list. They would be in the squad by now if they weren't so stupid. Neither should be picked again in my opinion. Quite enjoying underdog status. I think we might just do France on Monday.

Don't mind the underdog but by hell England play boring shitty football, I can see us boring our way to the semi's.

In addition, it's not as though Ferdinand has played every England game recently before suddenly being ignored; he's played one international in the last 12 (I think). I do think he's better than Terry, but he hasn't been selected and we should concentrate on the players who are there.
Jon the Hat Posted 6 June 2012 Posted 6 June 2012 Rio is better than Terry for one game a week, not two. If you cannot play every game you should not go. We have been there before - see Ledley King. Waste of a place.
