Injured Terry may sit out England opener in Euro.

London: England defender John Terry missed the squad's training session on Tuesday after failing to overcome the hamstring strain suffered during Saturday’s win over Belgium. Instead, the former skipper continued his recovery work as he battles to be fit for the Three Lions’ opening game of Euro 2012 against France on Monday.

England's cautious approach to Terry's injury is understandable. The Chelsea man has yet to kick a ball since the victory over Marc Wilmots' men, while Kyle Walker and Gary Cahill have both been ruled out in recent weeks through injury.

However, the Football Association are remaining positive following the news, particularly in light of the rumbling furore over the decision to take Terry ahead of Rio Ferdinand to the Euros, and released a statement on Tuesday night confirming all members of the England squad had either taken part in training or recovery work.

And former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has offered his support to Roy Hodgson following comments by Ferdinand's agent describing

the supposed snub as a "disgrace".

The Swede believes the newly-appointed boss should not be criticised for the decision and has rubbished suggestions that there is a link between the United man's exclusion and the ongoing race row between Terry and Ferdinand's younger brother Anton.

"We mustn't forget that Rio [Ferdinand] has suffered from injuries this season," Eriksson wrote in Expressen. "Roy [Hodgson] has his reasons. Otherwise, he wouldn't have rejected Rio — twice.

"Many try to connect the dots between the race allegations against John Terry and Roy leaving Ferdinand out of the squad. I know there is no truth in these claims. How? You’re just going to have to trust me."

Eriksson was also quick to suggest that fans should wait until after the tournament before making judgement on Hodgson’s managerial ability. "Roy's got rock-solid knowledge when it comes to the players’ current form," he added. "So let me suggest that we all save our verdicts until after the tournament."

Oh well.

the more of the "old guard" that get injured or left at home the better in my opinion. blood some youngsters bring on the world cup. the longer we wait to get some youngsters in the longer we will have to wait to get anywhere near a winning team. the (supposedly) golden generation, i wouldn't give them the time of day or watch them (haven't for years) too much money too many egos

Shit. So what now? Lescott and Jones? Jagielka? Bollocks.

Hope he gets fit in time.

Say what you like about him, he's still a top class centre back and we'd be worse off without him in our team.

This.

We were going to have a nightmare of a time dealing with France's attack as it is.

This is going to be a bad summer. Again. :(

Hart - Terry fit for England

England No.1 backs Lescott to partner Terry against France

Goalkeeper Joe Hart has revealed John Terry took part in England's first full training session after arriving at their base in Krakow, Poland.

The Chelseaspacer.gif central defender was among those who needed to be checked after suffering a tight hamstring in Saturday's friendly win over Belgium at Wembley.

And, after losing four players to injury already, Hart admitted manager Roy Hodgsonspacer.gif will be relieved not to suffer any more setbacks.

Asked whether Terryspacer.gif played a full part in training, Hart told Sky Sports News: "Yeah, he was fine. Flying around like he usually does. He didn't seem to be holding back."

And England's No.1 revealed Scott Parkerspacer.gif also took part in training, despite concerns over the Achilles tendon injury which kept him out of Tottenham's Premier League run-in.

"You read and hear about Scott Parker and you have to actually ask him 'is anything wrong with you' and he's like 'no, not really', so it's interesting to listen to when you actually speak to the guy, he is absolutely fine."

Good. Terry-Lescott at CB is looking alright. Not good enough to handle RIbery/Nasri/Benzema etc but much, much better than, no disrespect, Jagielka or Phil Jones.

It can't be worse than when we tried to deal with Germany's 2 years ago. When Terry was centre back.

What's he done wrong? A couple of bad friendly performances? He's easily our most talented defender, still much to learn perhaps, but I don't think he's helped by being used as a makeshift right back all the while.

Lescott, on the other hand, has never been much good at all.

This. He was a bombscare that day, and has been for much of the past season, most notably against Arsenal and Barca.

Can't say I've studied him thoroughly, but I'd be pretty confident in saying he's had very few minutes as a centre half this season, if any at all really. He's also never been to a major tournament. Just think it'd be more ideal to have a world class, experienced centre half playing against France than a kid who's had a decent season playing about half a season at right back or centre mid for United.

As for Lescott, he has clearly been good, he's played almost every (maybe even every, not sure) game for the league champions.

Terry might have been world-class once, but not any more. Lescott and Jagielka did well together against Spain a few months back..

Wouldn't we all, but where are we going to get one of those? :D

I should really stop with the Terry threads
