MattyFromLE Posted 12 June 2012 Posted 12 June 2012 Their absence was the first thing i noticed really about the atmosphere. It sounded dead in there! Bring 'em back, who else is going to try get the fans going?
marbelladave Posted 12 June 2012 Posted 12 June 2012 They'll be back for the Sweden game, UEFA just didn't want the hated England getting any psychological boost to play their beloved France. Glad to see that someone fully understands the realities of modern football....... Should just rename it Eurovision and have done with it. Don't have to worry about any of the football, Platini can be wheeled out to give points to the 'best' team. England, Nil points. As usual........

Pretty accurate comparison, in both England submit mediocre entries and then moan and claim bias against them when they go on to lose.
marbelladave Posted 13 June 2012 Posted 13 June 2012 Pretty accurate comparison, in both England submit mediocre entries and then moan and claim bias against them when they go on to lose. I thought so, the comparisons are endless. For example; Great optimism from the fans in a hopeless cause...... 'Invented' football, dominate pop/rock music so huge sense of entitlement in both competitions...... Naive belief that the competitions are about sport/music and fail completely to come to terms with the political realities..... Etc, etc.
purpleronnie Posted 13 June 2012 Posted 13 June 2012 A sponsered band.....jeeez...pretty sums up modern football over here.
Webbo Posted 13 June 2012 Posted 13 June 2012 A sponsered band.....jeeez...pretty sums up modern football over here. They were going before they were sponsored. Following England around the world isn't cheap, what's the problem?
davieG Posted 13 June 2012 Posted 13 June 2012 Merc Sponsor of the England supporters' band, Pukka Pies, has protested to UEFA after the musicians had their instruments confiscated before the England v France game. The strains of the Great Escape and Rule Britannia were missing as Roy Hodgson's team held on for a one-all draw in Donetsk. The band had driven to Donetsk from the UK • • Paul Mace, spokesman for the Syston pie-maker, said: "We have made an official protest about this matter. "There were no grounds for taking this disgraceful action, which was over-zealous in the extreme. "Needless to say, we intend the band to be back in its rightful place by the Sweden game on Friday." Mr Mace said the issue had been raised both with the FA and UEFA. "The band has followed England for 18 years and that has included Euro qualifiers and the World Cup finals in South Africa," he said. "That's about 300 matches." Mr Mace said Monday's events were even more galling because the band had driven to Donetsk from the UK, a journey of about 2,800 miles, which had taken them five days. Band leader John Hemmingham said members, who live in Yorkshire, had been given assurances by the FA and UEFA that they would be able to play their instruments at the match. "But, as with all football grounds, the stadium controller is in overall charge and he decides what happens," he said. "We can only hope there is a different attitude in Kiev and the guy in Donetsk changes his mind. "What happened was pretty disappointing to say the least when you consider what we had been through to get there. "Getting to Donetsk is not the easiest, especially once you get into Ukraine because, away from the cities, the roads are hideous. "The hotels we had booked were no use because the journey took far longer than planned and on Sunday night we had to sleep by the side of the road. "To then find that, after 300 matches, we weren't going to be allowed to play was infuriating in the extreme." A spokesman for the FA in Ukraine said: "Of course we support the band being at the venue and we understand it was an incident involving the stadium security. "It is a matter for UEFA, the organising body, and we understand they are being contacted by Pukka Pies." A UEFA spokeswoman in Geneva said: "We are aware of the reports of what happened on Monday." She said she did not know what action was being taken to resolve the issue. Leicester City season ticket holder and England fan Chris Wellman, 58, said: "I think it's really unfair that they should be singled out. What harm can they do? They're there to support the team. I hope the decision is reversed." Fellow City season ticket holder Sam Hall, 61, said: "I think the ban is disgusting. They follow the England team everywhere. They're a part of the England support."
marbelladave Posted 13 June 2012 Posted 13 June 2012 Manolo "el bombe de Espana" was in place making his usual racket in the Spain v Italy game...... Yet the English boys get their instruments confiscated, you couldn't make it up...... It's a conspiracy I tell you........
Webbo Posted 13 June 2012 Posted 13 June 2012 Paul Mace, spokesman for the Syston pie-maker, said: "We have made an official protest about this matter. Didn't he use to work for the club?
davieG Posted 13 June 2012 Posted 13 June 2012 Didn't he use to work for the club? Yes, he left after the 2005 season - http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/topic/6661-mace-out/
Voll Blau Posted 16 October 2012 Author Posted 16 October 2012 Henry Winter â€@henrywinter Band banned. #eng fans' trumpets, cornet & drum impounded by National Stadium authorities (apparently Polish band banned too).
Kitchandro Posted 16 October 2012 Posted 16 October 2012 On the one hand I think it's a bit disgraceful UEFA banning stuff like this. On the other hand I do fvcking hate the band.
Corky Posted 16 October 2012 Posted 16 October 2012 On the one hand I think it's a bit disgraceful UEFA banning stuff like this. On the other hand I do fvcking hate the band. Fair. But it's something we can really do without.
BlueSi13 Posted 16 October 2012 Posted 16 October 2012 Great news! Rather than aiding the atmosphere, they have been responsible for killing it stone dead as people just await the 34th rendition of god save the queen after 42 minutes.
Ashley Posted 16 October 2012 Posted 16 October 2012 Banning the England band but they wouldn't ban vuvuzaleas
Guest Bilo Posted 16 October 2012 Posted 16 October 2012 Banning the England band but they wouldn't ban vuvuzaleas My dyslexic friend was deported from South Africa because of those during the World Cup. Apparently he tried to blow a zulu's vulva.
FoxesAreBlue Posted 16 October 2012 Posted 16 October 2012 Banning the England band but they wouldn't ban vuvuzaleas World cup is governed by FIFA, not uefa
Guest BlueBrett Posted 16 October 2012 Posted 16 October 2012 Great decision. They completely kill all hopes of any atmosphere at England games. Heard one of them interviewed when they got banned in SA and he seemed to think everyone loves them
Alexikokopops Posted 16 October 2012 Posted 16 October 2012 On the one hand I think it's a bit disgraceful UEFA banning stuff like this. On the other hand I do fvcking hate the band. I heard it was the Polish FA that banned them. They'd banned a Polish band so had to ban the England one.
BlueSi13 Posted 16 October 2012 Posted 16 October 2012 Great decision. They completely kill all hopes of any atmosphere at England games. Heard one of them interviewed when they got banned in SA and he seemed to think everyone loves them I remember that, they thought the whole of the country would be up in arms and demand their return, i can only imagine their heartbreak when it turned out the vast VAST majority of England fans didn't want them back!
Fox in the North Posted 16 October 2012 Posted 16 October 2012 I don't mind them, though I would prefer it if they played a little less and not for every minute of the match.
