Not the greatest of tackles...but Howard Webb should have given him a yellow and told him to calm the **** down.

Shame that the game has been ruined because it was a quality opening 15 minutes.

I'm not so sure. My first reaction was yellow, but having seen it again, he clearly jumps in with two feet off the floor. Left Webb with no option really.

Yeah, but he only connects with him with one and it's only just above the foot. It was a bad tackle and i'm not saying a red was wrong. But in the context of the game he should have given him a yellow.

It said earlier that Howard Webb had only given one red in 32 games and I just knew he'd give one today. Hopefully it gets evened up and it's not so much of a one way game.

Having said that Huddlestone and Sandro are playing really well.

He might have only hit him with one, but the fact he jumped in meant he wasn't in control. If Cazorla's leg was planted it could have been horrific.

I'm not sure you can justify a yellow due to the fact it's a North London derby. The almost universal reaction I've seen so far - couple of forums, twitter and facebook - agree it was a red, so imagine if he'd stayed on just because it's the derby and scored the winner. A reckless challenge is a reckless challenge regardless of the stature of the game and should be punished accordingly.

Nah i'm not saying that it wasn't a red because it was a derby. Just in the context (I.e. he'd just scored and was probably still buzzing) he should have booked him and gave him a right good telling off.

so if he hadn't just scored he should've been sent off?

So what if he'd injured Cazorla badly, would you still have said just a yellow?

Edit: So you're saying if you've just scored it's ok to jump into a horror tackle?

So that's what constitutes whether a red or a yellow should be given? If someone gets injured?

I'm just trying to work out your logic for saying it should have been only a yellow.

What I'm trying to say is that if Adebayor had jumped into that EXACT challenge and injured Cazorla, would you have still said only a yellow because he's just scored etc?

You always have to look at the context.

You could see that he was lively, celebrating in front of the Arsenal fans and leaving his boot into tackles.

All i'm saying is when you see a player like that just book him and calm him down. That way you have the spectacle and the game can survive.

Look at it now. 3-1 and game completely over.

No doubt it's ruined the game, but the fact is it was a red card challenge, when you jump into a tackle you have no control of your direction or momentum. If he was sliding along the floor two footed then I'd say a yellow.

A reckless tackle like that is a red in any game. It's not the referee's duty to make the game a "spectacle", it's his job to referee impartially and to the laws of the game. If he sees a red card tackle he's got to give it, regardless of whether the bloke's just scored.

What the **** are you talking about lol

What does an injury have to do with a referee's decision? It's not that fact he's scored, his temperament meant that he was dangerous to players on the pitch (i.e. going to make tackles much worse than that). Calm him down and that way (in the 17th minute and so early in a game 60,000 people have turned up for) the game isn't ruined.

I just think that he was pressured into it. If he'd just got the yellow out straight away he'd have been fine but the longer he waited to make the decision he was more and more pressured into giving the red.

A referee should be able to manage players on the pitch. If you can see a player as worked up as Adebayor was then tell him and warn him (he might already have done).

It's just my opinion that a yellow and a stern telling off would have been better than a red and a ruined game.
