BoneDog Posted 19 November 2012 Posted 19 November 2012 Neville is the best of the bunch. Footballing knowledge and wisdom galore. Top pro.
Kitchandro Posted 19 November 2012 Posted 19 November 2012 Another classic involving West Ham and Stoke City in the battle of the entertainers.
Corky Posted 19 November 2012 Posted 19 November 2012 Purists delight, that one. BUT STOKE ARE EVOLVING, PLAYING MORE FOOTBALL NOW.
Kitchandro Posted 19 November 2012 Posted 19 November 2012 WTF! Are they trying to scare kids with the new one? It's hideous! Surely that's one of the Fantastic Four.
Tom17LCFC Posted 20 November 2012 Posted 20 November 2012 Hated Neville as a player but got so much respect for him now. Top professional, and one of the few that seems to know what they're talking about.
BrummieFOX Posted 20 November 2012 Posted 20 November 2012 Hated Neville as a player but got so much respect for him now. Top professional, and one of the few that seems to know what they're talking about. He is literally the only pundit on SKY/BBC that actually analyses the game. Everyone else just plays replays of various key points during the game and describes what happens - Shearer is by far the worst for this. "...and here we see a fantastic ball played in by Valencia and Wayne Rooney really should be doing better with that header and making it 2-0". Brilliant Alan, cheers mate.
notnow john Posted 20 November 2012 Posted 20 November 2012 Aston Villa are set to sign N.P's long time target James Chester in the January window. According to the Telegraph.
Father Ted Posted 20 November 2012 Posted 20 November 2012 1-1 West Ham -v- Stoke Mr Neville's 1/2 time analysis was excellent. I bet the BBC look at Shearer, Lawrenson and Keown and wonder what they are pishing their money away on... But then they look at ITV with Townsend, Chiles and Redknapp.
Haydos Posted 23 November 2012 Posted 23 November 2012 The gulf in class between Neville and someone like Shearer is unbelievable at the very least. I'm not saying everyone should be at Neville's standard (and it's hats off to him at the end of the day) but the more you see of him the more you realise not only his depth of understanding of the game but also the lack of intelligence/knowledge/articulacy that others like Shearer possess. He really is a breath of fresh air and I wouldn't mind seeing/hearing him every time I watch a match on telly.
Corky Posted 23 November 2012 Posted 23 November 2012 In Shearer's (slight) defence, he has does have a shorter time on MOTD to analyse incidents compared to Neville doing a live game. I do agree that Neville is a far superior pundit and you learn most from him of anyone really.

Corky Posted 23 November 2012 Posted 23 November 2012 Match of the day isn't live. They have all afternoon to prepare for the show. I know, I'm saying that Neville has several minutes at half-time and plenty of time afterwards to really pull apart the game and it's major moments. The MOTD pundits have more games to get through in a shorter time period. I don't rate Shearer at all, he's shown in the past his lack of knowledge, but MOTD will usually have inferior punditry compared to Sky.

MOTD have 2/3 pundits that has about 5 hours to pull games to shreds (no to mention they will have countless behind the scenes) whereas SKY will have it's helpers but Neville does it on the spot. Hate Gary Neville as a commentator but he's an absolutely quality pundit and he makes up for his mundane host.
marko Posted 23 November 2012 Posted 23 November 2012 Match of the day isn't live. They have all afternoon to prepare for the show. You're wrong; it's broadcast live every week.
ScouseFox Posted 23 November 2012 Posted 23 November 2012 I think Corky's point is Neville has about 2 hours of speaking on MNF so obviously goes much more in-depth than the five minutes or so between games that MOTD have. So obviously he can talk more about certain incidents and get so in-depth.

stix Posted 23 November 2012 Posted 23 November 2012 You're wrong; it's broadcast live every week. I stand corrected. They still have longer to analyse the games though. G-Nev watched the West Ham v Stoke game live & had the ad break to compile his analysis. Granted, after the game he again analysed the whole game more thoroughly but even so, does much better job than any of them on MOTD(i know that isn't what you said corky) Shearer & Co. are rubbish.
Super_horns Posted 23 November 2012 Posted 23 November 2012 I don't have Sky but I get the impression pundits on the BBC/ITV only really care about certain clubs and aren't interested in talking about the rest. Mind you Talksport is the worse - its either West Ham,Chelsea,Liverpool or Spurs! Anyone else might as well not exist.

Mind you Talksport is the worse - its either West Ham,Chelsea,Liverpool or Spurs! Anyone else might as well not exist. Well Sky are the absolute worst for that, one episode of Sunday Supplement would tell you all you need to know. And the amount of QPR matches that are televised as well. I've got little time for most pundits, most of them drive me up the wall with the amount of crap they talk, but I have to say Neville is an exception, you can tell he really does know what he's talking about and I've hardly ever disagreed with him. Its embarrassing the gulf between him and not just Shearer but the likes of Jaimie Redknapp (who just talks and talks and talks with many cliches, but in the end just makes no worthwhile point or ends up talking out of his arse).
Kitchandro Posted 24 November 2012 Posted 24 November 2012 Why are Sunderland and West Brom both wearing white? How did the ref look at both kits and say 'yep, that's fine, there's no possible way they could be confused'.
Super_horns Posted 24 November 2012 Posted 24 November 2012 So if QPR somehow get anything at Man U wil Harry take the credit?
